In this language challenge, two Turkish speakers from Turkey, Şimal and Ahmet, go up against two Persian speakers from Iran, Shahrzad and Omid. We explore some of the similarities between the two languages with words and sentences. For any questions, suggestions, or feedback, contact us on Instagram:
Shahrzad (@shahrzad.pe): / shahrzad.pe
Me (@BahadorAlast): / bahadoralast
Ahmet's Instagram: / felsefy
Turkish and Persian belong to two different language families but have influenced one another significantly throughout history. Turkish is the most widely spoken of the Turkic languages and has official status in Tukey and Cyprus. In addition, Turkish is recognized as a minority language in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Iraq, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Romania. Although the majority of Turkish speakers reside in Turkey, large number of Turkish speakers reside in Germany, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, as well as parts of Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. In the 1920s, after the Turkish Republic was established, Atatürk replaced the Ottoman Turkish alphabet with a Latin alphabet.
Persian (Farsi) is an Indo-European language and classified as Indo-Iranian. Persian is primarily spoken in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, as well as some other parts of the Middle East, Central and South Asia. Both Persian and Turkish have influenced one another and in this video we explore these influences and try to see to what extent Turkish and Persian speakers can understand one another.

H IRDE Thank you so much!! I prefer the longer ones as well, and I think a lot of people agree with you, based on the messages I receive. So in the future, the majority will be longer! Thank you :) Really appreciate the lovely message. We picked a name for the baby that is both used as Canadian and Iranian name. There is a version of it used in Persian. Her name will be Serena, in Persian we say "Sarina". She's due in mid-April, so we'd like to introduce her in a future video this summer :)

Turkish and Azerbaijani may be similar languages, but in Azerbaijani some words are pronounced more like in Persian - like qalb (a as in cat)m or qirmizi etc.So I really think it will be interesting:). This was very interesting! I'm an English teacher in a largely immigrant school and we just got a Turkish student. A lot of our students are from Afghanistan and speak Dari, and despite telling me they don't speak each other's language, the Afghan students seem to be having small, successful conversations with the new student. Is the overlap merely lexical, since both languages are not from the same language family? Again, thank you for the great video!

Also Seljuk Turks used the Farsi for administration around 11th century, that left a huge mark on Turkish and you could say Turkish left a mark on Farsi also. Main reason was Farsi has some different letters than Arabic. By than using Arabic alphabet was causing some issues. And Turks started using Arabic alphabet around 9th century, before they were using Orhun Alphabet

Hi, I'm Iranian and I live in one of the North Western cities of Iran where we also speak Turkish (But not exactly the "Turkish" used in Turkey or Azerbaijan or other countries where they use Turkish, though there are lots of similarities) and since our national language is Farsi/Persian we know that too! (I actually grew up learning both Farsi and Turkish) We also learn Arabic (Of course not professionally) and English (this as well to some extent) at school! And as English is an international language many people pursue it (besides learning it at school) to the extent which they can manage to live in a foreign country or do other things! (Which I did! (^_^)) I personally started learning Turkish (the one used in the video) when I was 8 through TV shows and songs and I have to say that learning different languages helps you a lot even in your own language! For example you may come across a word you don't know the definition of, but if you know for example Turkish you can get through it! These similarities really get me excited and make me even go further and try to learn other ones too! By the way, thank you for the video. I really enjoyed it! 👍 خیلی قشنگه دیدن همچین ویدئو هایی 😢 Love to everyone all around the world! ❤ Hepinize saygılar! 😊

Finally the video i have been waiting for :) Persian is a very rich language, that we cannot just leave Persian origin words in Turkish and replace them with original Turkish words. I think most of these words on video are Persian origin, some of them can be replaced with other Turkish words like "Milliyet" with "Ulus". Also the persian origin words are usualy used for some specific situation, not for common words in Turkish. It is amazing how languages in two different language families can affect each other so much edit: actualy ulus mean nation not nationality, that was my mistake

Your videos are huge and very interesting and also funny . It´s very interesting to know it how many different words from the Persian language Farsi are in the different languages . I mean the similarities . I am originally from Poland my husband is from Afghanistan . In the Polish language some words are from German , French , Italian , Turkish , English and the Slavic languages . But i don't know if there are similarities between Polish and Persian . That´s my question can you make similarities between Polish and Persian ?

Thank you!! For sure, I've been considering making a Polish/Persian video, there are similarities between the two languages for sure :) I'll certainly try to organize it in the future!

I'm a Turk living in Iran. I know both languages like a native speaker. There are similarities between 2 languages but it doesn't mean that they are 80-90 percent same. There are about 20-30 percent (This is my personal guess ) words in Turkish coming from Arabic and those words mostly are same.

I am Somali and I want to learn Persian and turkish near future. I don't know the two languages well but I listened both turkish and persian songs. I found turkish 🇹🇷 to sound harsh and artistic language while persian 🇮🇷 sounds soft and elegant language. That is just the opinion of someone who doesn't speak neither of the two languages.

king Awiye of Somalia that’s very tight Persian is one of the richest languages for love song and poetry and has very wide range and easiness to play with words to describe your meaning and thoughts That’s why I love it cuz I’m Farsi your really can express yourself and describe your feelings and thoughts the best possible way if u know the language well! It’s melodic also 🎻

I remember reading somewhere that Turkish borrowed the Persian word 'ki' which used as a conjunction word. I guess that's the only word in Turkish allows creating a direct dependent clause. In that sense, Turkish also borrowed a sentence structure from Persian which is quite unusual.
@ibrahimismailov4506
@ibrahimismailov4506 6 ай бұрын
There are no borrowings of the structure of the Persian language in the Turkic languages. These are different language systems. The Turkic language is an ancient, archaic Agglutinative language. When new words are formed, the root of the word does not change. This is a full-voice language. Persian is an inflected language with two verbs.
