Paul Simon's prolific writing & Art Garfunkel's calm and soothing delivery made this song one of America's most popular songs. Garfunkel's classic, casual wardrobe, with both his hands behind his jean pockets, in front of 500,000 fans in Central Park, made this one of music's most iconic, solo, live performances ever. Thank you for BOTH for your wonderful reactions to Simon & Garfunkel, gentlemen!

@NicholasRamos Thank you for the great recommendations. We have both heard both of those songs numerous times, but this was probably the first time we actually sat and watched them perform the songs and actually take time to take it all in. They were both wonderful and timeless songs from 2 guys who were very young at the time. Thanks you for your great support also, it really is appreciated. If you have any time on Sunday evening, we will be live from 19:30 UK Time and we always like to say hello and thank you to all that join., You would be very welcome if you found time to pop in. All the best BPR

@BritPopsReact Hey Guys! Thank you for this kind message. BPR reacts to so much great music. When I noticed you had not yet reacted to any Simon and Garfunkel music, I felt they were worthy of recognition on your channel. I rarely make reaction requests on KZfaq. However, since discovering your channel, I am totally IMPRESSED by each of you & your channel's format. The two of you have great chemistry together. I like that BPR is both professional & informative, unlike most of the other KZfaq music reaction channels. I also VALUE both your opinions. BPR is my ONLY go-to channel for KZfaq music reaction requests. If you haven't yet noticed, I enjoy watching live music performances. Studio/audio music is too easily manipulated by today's technology. The true test is how artists perform live in concert. As BP 2 commented in your reaction to Bridge, S&G's live performances sound much like their studio recordings. That says A LOT. Thank you for your invite this Sunday. I will make an effort to join in the fun. I really appreciate the vibe of your BPR family, a fun group of people. Thanks again to both of you for reacting to both my requests. You guys are THE BEST! Regards, Nicholas

I hadn’t noticed that before. I think I usually see the performance from one of the other nights that week, where Paul joins him on the third verse. Art looks so casual it’s hard to realize that he must have felt some pressure when he did that crescendo at the end. Wouldn’t want to goof up in front of 500,000 of your most ardent fans. (I’ve actually seen estimates from 400,000 to a million. Definitely more than 10,000!)

One of the most beautiful songs ever written or performed. It's great to hear it live. Mesmerizing an accurate description of this song and his voice. Few writers or performers can match their talents solo much less together. Mrs. Robinson the song from the movie The Graduate is great too, although pretty much can be said of ALL of their songs. Thanks, Nicolas Ramos.

Hey Firefighterchick! I appreciate your thoughtful "thank you." It was my pleasure & I am so glad that both BPR & S&G fans can now enjoy the live performances of this legendary duo. The 1981 Central Park holds fond memories for me. After this concert launch, S&G took it on the road throughout the US, and one place was my hometown in the SF Bay Area. Of course, my girlfriend and I attended the concert. There is nothing better than watching your favorite legends perform live in concert. I have seen Elvis, Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Bee Gees, Kenny Rogers, Olivia Newton-John, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Temptations, Whitney Houston, and the list of Legends & genres go on and on. I proudly say, Simon and Garfunkel ranks in MY TOP 3 concerts I have EVER witnessed. I am glad to hear you enjoyed watching BPR react to S&G. BPR are the best PROFESSIONAL reactors on KZfaq today. The fact BPR does their OWN research about the artist/song they're reacting to is rarely seen from other KZfaq music reactors. It's why I picked BPR to react to Simon and Garfunkel. Thanks again & take care!

Paul's writing and Art's vocal talents paired to create some of the best music ever recorded. Sound of Silence; Bridge Over Troubled Water; The Boxer; Homeward Bound; I Am a Rock; Scarborough Fair; El Condor Pasa; just to name a few. Anything of theirs you choose will not disappoint. However brief their partnership, Paul continued with a successful solo and writing career. Check out: Kodachrome; Mother and Child Reunion; Still Crazy After All These Years; Graceland and 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. Great reaction.....can't wait to hear what you pick next! Thank you!!!

My all time favorite performance by Art. Did you notice Paul Simon sitting in the background? Paul said that they “were really best friends up until ‘Bridge over Troubled Water.' The harmony of the friendship, was broken from there on out, said Simon. The fact that Art had a role, around that time, in the movie Catch 22, added flame to the fire.

This has always been a favorite song (and performance) of mine. As you mentioned, it's very comforting. I feel it from the point of a friend standing by when in need. But also God watching over you when in need. A quick note: I've seen this same video, but in full with no parts cut out to shorten it. When Art looks over to the side right before he starts singing "Sail on silver girl", he's looking to see if Paul is going to join him singing as he does on the recorded version. In the video I saw, Paul gives Art a nod to show that Art should continue on his own. In this particular performance, I think it was the right choice.

I was there that night but we found ourselves crowded under a bush just to be able to straighten our legs. Then the music started so far away we really couldn't hear it and left, trying not to step on hands on our way out..There was about the same number of 500k people there as at Woodstock 1969. I believe it was the largest crowd I'd ever been a part of. I went back two years later to see Diana Ross in Central Park and was actually able to hear and enjoy her show in a crowd of about 350k. But I'm 70 now and I think 5 people in an elevator is too crowded.

When I was 10 living back in NYC, I took guitar lessons with my friend Lou Pearlman. His parents invited me to dinner and told me to bring my guitar. I walked in and Lou introduced me to his cousin Art Garfunkel. I had no idea who he was. I believe at the time S&G had released their first album. He tried out my guitar and signed an autograph for me that I still have. Lou went on to form NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys.

@johnrussell-bk7lv

I'm living in a hard experience with this emotion in Medellin right now. There are people passed out all around me when I walk down the block to find some food and some of them wake up and follow me to try to get some money and I turn them down because honestly I'm pretty broke myself and I can't help everyone out, but my heart is aching all the time. I want to empathize and react to my empathy because that is the moral thing to do as well as what my heart tells me to do, but I have to resist it and be cold because doing the opposite could fuck my life up in an instant. I wish the world was as easy to deal with as songs like this make it out to be, but "being a little kinder" is a shout from a very far away hill. Life is pain. It doesn't have to be, but it is what we've made it. Let's try to do better. We're inherently selfish, but at the moment that I can spare a meal for someone else and that action won't cause me to starve I will do so, and have done so, so let's try to be better.

Totally was DETERMINED to stay up to date, but as is usual in Chez Tundiel, everything went 'bits' up, with the entire household falling like dominoes with the glorious norovirus. Highlights included a hospital visit for Little Dude, and yours truly actually taking a week off sick and sleeping the better part of two days. It was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Amywho! Knew you'd enjoy this. I've seen it countless times. I'm quite stunned that you hadn't seen it before now because it is - as you say - such an iconic song. Just all over goosebumps. ❤ So I mentioned PTX in the 'Sound of Silence' reaction, now I'm going to mention my Welsh boi and his muckers in The Big Push. Their original 'Swan Song' is very folksy, and others have said it reminds them of Simon & Garfunkel. This was sort if an anthem to end the 1960's. Grammy award - Song of the year for 1970. There is only one acceptable version of this for me...Art Garfunkel, who just showed the difference between an artist and h hack. Make no mistake, Art Garfunkel is an artist with with a gift as is Paul Simon. And the studio version is a work of art [and Art]. Even Elvis doing "Elvis" on this song is not acceptable to me, so many go to Elvis without knowing the original studio version....Larry Knechtel, studio musician invented the piano part you do NOT hear in this live version, the pianist on this pales in comparison the the studio version, substituting lame chords etc. not in the original.
