@@crafty1096 They never got along about who got credit for what. Simon wrote pretty much everything & Garfunkel directed the layout of the songs. Garfunkel never wrote anything for the two of them. He suggested the 3rd stanza for "Bridge Over Troubled Water", & Simon hated it; he wanted it to be 'a little hymn'. "Sail on silver girl Sail on by Your time has come to shine All your dreams are on their way See how they shine Oh, if you need a friend I'm sailing right behind" Simon also said he should have sang lead in "Sound Of Silence" although his voice wasn't as high as Garfunkel's. If you notice, in this performance, Simon finished the high part at the end... where Garfunkel's voice would have soared. Garfunkel could no longer reach the high notes because of his throat surgery. That's the reason for the key changes & variations in this performance.

Fun fact: ln the early 60's Columbia Records had formed a new folk band called The Pilgrims in response to Warner Records very popular hit folk trio Peter Paul & Mary. A then little known songwriter came to the studio with a song the producer hoped would be the debut single for The Pilgrims. The producer liked the song and asked the songwriter to record a demo to give to The Pilgrims, but when he heard the demo sung by the songwriter and his buddy he gave them a record contract to record it themselves. The Pilgrims recorded their debut album "Just Arrived" without that song. The songwriter was Paul Simon, his buddy was Art Garfunkel, the song was The Sound Of Silence. The lead singer of The Pilgrims was a black former soldier who was also a very talented Broadway, stage, musical and opera performer/dancer/actor/singer who later went on to star in 2 hit tv sitcoms named "Soap" and "Benson"........ the indomitable Robert Guillaume. Bonus: there are videos of Guillaume on KZfaq doing a fantastic rendition of another Simon And Garfunkel song "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". R.l.P. RG

I just love this. Nothing like the original. They’re one of the first groups I listened to. Paul Simon is a poet

Mic drop. No one does this song like they do. They touch the soul with this masterpiece.

I don't cry easily. This performance, after hearing the original when I was young, and after the bitter split they went through, and coming back together more seasoned and wiser, more compassionate, brought me to tears. I feel sure the song had a deeper, more personal meaning to them this time around.

I could listen to this, and John Lennon’s “Imagine” on an endless loop. Truly timeless songs

Thank you! Thank you for playing all this great music! The songs today leave something to be desired. Groups/ single singers lack the passion in their singing. I'd like to hear your reaction to two Neil Diamond songs. Who I think is the best songwriter and musician. The two songs.... "I am I said", and "Love on the Rocks". Thank you!

They do harmonize so well together. They did so through the 60s as well as each time they reunited. They had the top selling album in 1970 with their fifth and final album; Bridge Over Troubled Water.

I remember when this aired. It was a childhood favorite, and I LOVED this version. It just so happens that I really like the Disturbed cover-I rarely like any covers-but man. This. One of the best songs in my lifetime. Thanks, Jamal.

My father had their greatest hits album in the early '70s when I was a toddler. They have been one of my favorite groups since then.

This is their song and this was also live in a park a few years ago, so they still have it. They sounded great, didn't they?

A magical fusion of voices, ethereal harmonies and brilliant, otherworldly(looking in) songwriting. Thanks, Jamel.

I first seen this in the early 1980’s and became a lifelong fan. Their harmonies are just outstanding. Paul Simon’s song writing ability has ensured that he has been a very successful artist

This is one of the greatest duets EVER. I grew up as a little child and into teen years. So sad they grew up as young boys. Artie singing like an angel and Paul's lyrics and melody. They really can't stand each other. Art a perfectionist who drpve Paul crazy. Paul rehearsed till it was good didn't want to lose the spontaneity.

Music so beautiful... It's hard to believe they couldn't stand each other .

I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel & had a lot of their records. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. You won't find a bad song. They have had so many hits such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Sound Of Silence", "The Boxer", "Mrs. Robinson", "Scarborough Fair", "At The Zoo", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "El Condor Pasa" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs.
