Lyrics:
I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather be a hammer than a nail
Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would
Away, I'd rather sail away
Like a swan that's here and gone
A man gets tied up to the ground
He gives the world its saddest sound
Its saddest sound

I'm sorry about your dad. I hope your pain passes soon and you only find peace and joy in every piece that reminds you of him. Andean Music if full of meaning, inspiration to observe and enjoy nature as is, - even when it doesn't have words (like this song [first version]), - and it fills the heart with peace, hope and positive energy. The original Condor Pasa written by Peruvian composer Alomia Robles was an orchestral piece written for a Zarzuela, where no Andean instruments were present (on the actual piece) Later, due to the sad melody and theme of mistreatment of the Indian, it caught on with Andean peoples that started performing and recording the song with Andean instruments such as pan flute etc., but originally the song did not have these instruments, as it was first written for a piano and string instruments.

Beautiful music. I first heard Simon and Garfunkel in the Seventies. My favorite song was Bridge over troubled waters. And also I'm Just A Poor boy. I used to hear the LP on Gramophone again and again. Those were the days. During those days it was very difficult to get a Record. Then, they would get scratches on the Record by playing again and again, and then the sound would deteriorate. Now every thing is changed. We get any music or any song so easily. And the sound is so pure and perfect now. Happy Listening.

Never forget to give the original song some love too. It inspired them greatly, even when this album flopped I’m sure he thought of El Condor Pasa, by Los Incas, fondly still. And I’m sure the traditional song stems way way back, farther than anyone can remember. Pay homage to your condors, your vultures and to your heritage. Always.

I just learned that today! I had to come play the version I know best first before looking for an original one. I should have guessed by the beat and the pipes, but I thought maybe they had been doing an "inspired by Peru" kinda thing. I heard it's as old as 1913. Is there a version you think I should check out?

I used to play this album in my car, on a cassette tape, on loud for every journey, and my son would just listen but not say anything. Years later, I walked into his house, and he was playing these tunes. He said he loved this. A few years later, he passed away suddenly at 28 years old. 😢 It's now nearly 5 years since he passed, and I feel comfort when I listen to these songs. Thank you for your music, guys! Rest in peace charming, beautiful Conor 😍
