"Rooney has done nothing to warrant a job in the Championship" 3:14 Meanwhile, Arteta, who had only EVER been assistant and had ZERO managerial experience got a massive Premier League club, at Arsenal, as his FIRST EVER job??? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤔🤔 How would have Arteta done had he started out at Derby?

HE WAS AN ASSISTANT TO PEP FREAKING GUARDIOLA. THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE. The assumption is that if you coached with Pep, that you'll be ready to take over your own team when it is time. Whether or not that assumption was correct, that was the perception. Two different situations.
@Viewer41
@Viewer41 Жыл бұрын
@@PGO_Gaming I know he was assistant to Pep. But Paul Clement was assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real, Bayern and PSG when they won EVERYTHING. The best job Paul Clement could get was Derby in the Championship. Even Lampard had to start in the Championship, Gerrard had to start in Scotland, Scott Parker had to start off at Fulham in a relegation battle and Sol Campbell had to start off in League 2. No English manager started off at one of the biggest Premier League clubs. Proof of the bias towards foreign managers.

@@liamjohnson7887 I like it when people agree with me! 🤣 His first job was for Derby in the Championship, he did well then got Swansea, a Premier League job. Clement kept Swansea up in the same season Marco Silva got Watford relegated. Silva then got another Premier League job (Watford) as a reward for that 🤷‍♂️ Whilst Swansea sacked Clement after 7 bad games the next season. Which was his 'reward' for keeping Swansea up.

Bias disclosure: I’m American and live in DC. Quality of the MLS varies hugely by team due to lack of relegation, and DC united is absolute trash this year, and has been since Wazza left. Poor management forced arguably our only top level talent in Paul Arriola to jump ship, and if Rooney can stabilize the team he’ll look like a genius. He was highly respected within the team as a player while he was here and was basically an assistant manager, so I think his chances of relative success at DC are much higher than elsewhere because of that. The move seems shrewd and well thought out, especially since if it doesn’t pan out he can point to the lack of talent for his failure

Simon is full of it here, the MLS is just as competitive a league as the championship, it has had 9 different winners in the last 11 seasons except it doesn't have the problem of yoyo clubs with parachute payments. Being competitive inside its own league and being comparable in terms of standard to the championship are two different things. MLS is getting better but it’s not at that standard yet. @@total90futbolacademy23 the MLS isn't that far off of the Championship in my honest opinion. NY Red Bulls and City, LA Galaxy and Sounders could probably cope just fine in Championship. Wayne Rooney was very fortunate to get the opportunity at Derby purely because of his name not on the back of his coaching credentials or experience. Of which at the time of appointment both areas must have been very very limited. Fact. At the same time there are and was highly qualified and experienced individuals with more credentials than WR who did not get the opportunity afforded to WR. That said WR did OK at Derby under very challenging circumstances. But therein lies the problem with football. Simon Jordan is right. Good luck to WR everyone wishes him well to develop into a top manager or coach. Going to America will hopefully help him. Then he can return to English football better equipped for it. Also in his defence he has a young family who he will no doubt have to consider too plus a wife who quite rightly has her rights to influence and support her husband and family just like everyone else. Genuinely everyone must hope the move works out well.

I'm inclined to disagree with Simon on this one. Rooney didn't even have 15 players in a squad. He basically played the youth team in competitive games, couldn't bring anyone in and still kept them in the league (or would have if it wasn't for the points deduction). It takes some talent to galvanise a young squad to do that and that would be recognised by other owners in the league. There is an argument to say that he managed to dig in through unfamiliar circumstances and, if given a stable squad of egos and budget to build a squad, he might not have the experience to do that. It's a fair argument but many of his compatriots (Gerrard, Lampard, Vieira) have been given that chance. There's nothing to suggest Rooney wouldn't also have had similar opportunities.

Most of this was good. A Rams' fan Simon has been mostly reasonable and fair with Wayne. He's right that he wouldn't be a good choice to virtually all Championship sides. Jim is right that most, plus some Premier League clubs, would come for him. Rooney too is considerate and probably wouldn't go to a club unless he thought he was a good fit. Danny is right as the move to DC United keeps him ticking over rather than stagnating (though all the nonsense he went through at our place, you couldn't blame him taking a few months off.

Echoing the other comments here but Rooney did fantastic at Derby given the circumstances. They also aren’t giving the MLS nearly enough credit. The league has come a LONG way in recent years

I think his point is bang on if you're seeking promotion to the Premier league you are not going to have a relatively un-proven manager like Rooney and if you are in a scrap and need a miracle you wouldn't want him either. He hasn't had an opportunity to develop a playing style or tactical approach because he's been dog-fighting for his management career to date

I am a Forest fan but give Rooney respect for the job he did last season. They did tail off near the end when relegation seemed certain though. But with what had been going on, he did well.

What about the season before when he led one of the most expensive squad in the league to 21st? This season they were expected to be relegated and...were relegated. Meanwhile Rooney was pointing his fingers at the ex owner wasting money...whilst picking up 100k a week in the championship...respect that? U wot?

The perception of mls in England is so far from the perception Americans have of mls. Although mls has made major strides, our league is still miles behind the European leagues.

I reckon Rooney will get another job in the championship, he’s taken a backward step for now to then take 2/3 steps forward in the future, he’ll have time to improve his coaching / management at DC and try to build a playing style that he wants his team and future teams to play, championship teams will remember what he did at derby too and I think he was probs right to leave derby, he would have had a sh*t load of work to do at derby this preseason in terms of finding players, keeping certain players under a shoe string budget and having a side primarily full of academy players which probs would have caused him getting sacked before Xmas, derby need an experienced football league manager or someone who knows the division they’re in like the back of their hand . Rooneys future will be bright .

SJ is always making sensational claims about players and managers ( Even though his expertise is in the boardroom and not the dressing room) and then very diplomatically withdrawing them and being careful to make sure it doesn't appear as a massive U turn. The lads pulled him up on his comments about Steve cooper at the end, SJ suggests all he said was that he was the 'bridesmaid' as he lost out in two playoffs, he actually went on a rant calling him a perennial failure and completely dismissed his achievements with the England U17s saying that was all down to the players clubs. He wants to be a pundit in the mould of Keane or Souness, he believes if he keeps making sensational and harsh claims about footballing people that one day we'll forget he never played/managed/coached and start to believe he's an actual pundit.

Agree with Simon on most things, but not this one. Rooney doesn’t seem like the sharpest tool in the box, media wise, but who cares. Did a decent job under what must of been woeful circumstances at derby. He’d get a job in the championship no problem. Forest fan so no bias towards him whatsoever.
