It didn’t ruin the season, they were just never good enough to go the distance. They rode their luck in a lot of games and the forwards were hit and miss for most of the season. Defensively they were also well below par. They were 5th the previous season so it was a rebuilding job and the fact Liverpool flirted with the title is testament to how much Klopp was getting out of them.

Injuries cost Liverpool simple as that. If Arsenal had the same amount of injuries that they'd have to lean on to 4-5 U21 players they wouldn't have done as well.
