I never cease to be amazed at the difference between opening the kiln of a professional potter vs the many kiln openings I witnessed in middle school, high school, and college. Every one of your pieces is gorgeous! No pucky pies. No horrific disasters. Just stunning professional pieces!

I have learned much from your videos. I am now in the process of building a small raku kiln like the one you showed a while back made with wire mesh and ceramic insulation. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

I am learning not to have expectations when I open the kiln. Sometimes it takes me a few days to appreciate firing results. I think this is a fantastic kiln load. Interesting and beautiful pots. Sorry you didn't get as much reduction as you would have liked. Thanks for sharing :)

Very interesting and enjoyable video, thanks, Simon. I thought most of the pots looked great..and I actually rather like the variation on the reduced/oxidised pots!

Hi, Simon . I like the "disappointing" bottle. The effect is quite dramatic - probably more so than you usually aim at. Would the unsealed gap between the kiln rings have contributed to the oxidation? Cheers.

I can see where Alan Brough got his inspiration, (he was an apprentice [or at least he studied with your father], wasn't he?).

See the 2 large bowls??? How do you get the rims like that? Looks like the glaze is not on the rims. Do you wax them?

Wouldn't the enclosed bowls cause an explosion? because of the air ratio, thats what i was taught, if not please indulge me with information.

TheDraindeimo not if cooled down slowly enough with proper kiln use. Even things like enclosed vessels can be fired in that way
