Simon Preston's 'Alleluyas' is his most famous piece of organ music, and it is inspired by Olivier Messiaen's 'Les Anges' as Simon was an early advocate of Olivier's music. In fact, he recorded the whole 'La Nativite' suite whilst still Organ Scholar at King's College in Cambridge!
Simon passed away on Friday 13th May 2022, and this is my tribute to the great influential organist.
This was played on the Hauptwerk organ of St Martin's Church in Dudelange, sampled by Voxus.

I learned this piece back in the mid '00s before I went to a summer organ camp in Calgary at which Simon Preston was an instructor. He was so kind!

A wonderful tribute. I had the privilege of hearing the composer play this once. I think he would have given this performance all the likes!!! (Love the increasing attention to detail with pedal cam too - perfect aspect ratio/skew matching and that subtle shadow. 🥰)

I once read, "Simon Preston was at the top of British organists." He was also a gentleman, and a consummate scholar, We have lost so many great artists in recent years.

Just given a very overdue Like! I've been thrilled by the piece ever since I acquired "Organ Fireworks Vol. 1" by Christopher Herrick; legendary recording!!! I would have said "terrif" in the 1970s! 😀I even met Simon Preston very briefly when he did a recital back in 1993; the only great composer I have met in the flesh... PS I Like Bobby PPS I Also Like Rhosymedre 🙂

Richard! That was brilliant! 👏👏👏 I have started listening to a number of recordings of this work in the last weeks and stopped because the music and the performance simply didn't grab my interest and then subsequently demand my attention. You on the other hand, had me right to the end! Kitty kisses and all! 🤣 I can now begin to appreciate the mastery, grandeur and praise that this piece evokes. Thank you, thank you!
