Keep a clear view: it's a lot about theatre, dazzle, understatement, exaggeration. And: all these parents and grandparents looked the other way when it came to abuse, when the Károlyis tortured the girls physically and psychologically, when Larry Nazzar sexually abused them. Fame was more important to them than the well-being of their children. US Gymnastics is a big, well-orchestrated farce with many dazzlers and many losers, these young girls, even if they are adorned with medals. Quite a few of them have suffered a pain that can hardly be healed.

Yes, years later, she grew into herself, became confident and embraced the GOAT title bestowed on her by fans of the sport. It's not like these things all happened one day later.
