In this video Simple Minds performing in playback the album version of New Gold Dream (81,82,83,84) for Italian TV show "Discoring" which was shown on RAI TV. This video was probably shot in March 13th, 1983 when Simple Minds started the Italian leg. The song was also released as a single in Italy as further promotion for the tour. It's also a notable performance for being one of the first videos to feature "new" drummer Mel Gaynor who joined them midway through the tour. I do not own the rights to the musical content of this video. All rights reserved to Simple Minds !

I cannot find enough words to describe my heart's pure happiness over this album. However, I'll start with exquisite, perfect, timeless (yet taking me back to teenage halcyon days of early 80s), vocal perfection, pathos, range, phrasing. Everything about this album has me swooning. Gen X forevermore. I'm 54 but I i hear this album and I'm 16 again. I'd go back in time if I could.

Yep. Even in country south oz this was on our tape decks often during the early eighties... Dug out my original tape the other week and had it on for no particular reason too.

After so many years still goosebumps. The most beautiful song of my life. Melody that comes from the future. Simple Minds was my first band that I saw live, in Italy. I'm Italian from Naples. Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Shed Seven, Supergrass .... I want to go back in time ....

The spirit and the atmosphere that the synthesizers give is simply mind-blowing, this song is the very essence of my young adult life in the 80s, magnificent memories.

Funny how when a band gets older they are playing song live in concerts that they wrote in their 20s, 40 years later. It’s almost like the best music comes from the minds of young musicians, uncorrupted, un jaded, and taking risks. I wonder what a Jim Kerr thinks if his 22 year old self now that he’s 60 something.

I Simple Minds al culmine del loro splendore, prima del successo planetario con annesso declino creativo... Il giorno dopo aver filmato questo clip si esibirono al Palasport di Bologna in un concerto meraviglioso ma anche caotico... me lo ricordo con un pò di nostalgia e ho ancora il nastro del live che registrai con il mio Sony Walkman. :)

I'm sorry, WHERE did they claim Simple Minds came from? They would've probably not be at all happy to be described as "from England". Anyway, this is one of their best songs of all time and I'm so glad there's a clip of them miming it for TV.

Eh altri tempi ! Però le apparizioni in Italia dei Simple Minds in quel periodo avevano portato la Virgin a pubblicare questo brano come singolo esclusivamente per il mercato italiano. Quindi sì, siamo arrivati tardi ma meglio degli altri 😉

si ma nel 1983 estrassero solo per l'ITALIA questo pezzo dall'album e usci anche un remix che comprai, operazione che servì a lanciare il tour in quanto gli altri 4 singoli dell'lp non ebbero un successo da classifica qui da noi

New Gold Dream was in effect, the prototype original of trance music. I think Simple Minds were always a rock band that wanted to be an electronic or electro-rock band. Much like Propaganda or New Order.
