This is one of many tapes I filmed over the years. What I thought was state of the art gear, was actually quite shite quality. Anyway I have quickly chopped a few clips to see how it works on youtube. See what you think. If its worth spending more time on this?

Did we lose John Giblin?. I loved his bass lines, along with all the others individual instrumental performances. Simple Minds had a unique sound, which no band has equaled to date. Take away just one of them, and that sound is gone.

Mick any behind the scenes stuff - whether it's demos or footage - is like gold to us die hard fans who are given pretty much nothing in the form of archival material from official channels. I've long read about the wealth of demo and live stuff in the SM archives, and there it all still sits, apart from the one full gig that was included on the Sparkle box set, and a handful of extra tracks from Verona '89 that were in the SFY box set. Keep it coming - it's DEFINITELY worth spending the time on, and thank you for this one!

I met Simple Minds back in 1984 when I was 14 living in Madrid. They were in the middle of their tour that year and they were great live and a friendly band to talk to. Every one including the crew were friendly. They were touring with the indie band China Crisis if any one can remember them. They were under the same manager as Simple Minds. China Crisis were a Liverpool band unlike Simple Minds who come from Glasgow. Rock on I say.

Absolutely spend more time on this! "So can you name everybody?" In addition to the late John Giblin, there's Robin Clark and Sue Hadjopoulos in there. Only ever commented on one KZfaq video before but compelled to write here... Would love to see more of this! - keep 'em comin'! Now's the time to say it... I have a Yamaha CP-80 in my LIVING ROOM! My musical interest was inspired by your good self and my beloved piano is my most treasured worldly possession. A total pleasure to listen to my son playing it better than I do - he's now 20 years old and rocks it! Why is he not in a band?

Love the dreamy, nostalgic melody you chose to accompany us into the world that now seems light years away... a perfect acoustic intro into the unhurriedness that this whole era used to be enveloped in. The last of the Mochicans of the original humanity, untouched by the digital craze, before we could even imagine where it would lead us to (have been an avid enthusiast about all things digital myself, back then). Just a decade or two ahead - and there is no more coming back. This video says so much and although to you it contains real, beautiful memories, I find it deeply allegorical: Mel drumming to the sound o f the train, unintentionally showing what awaits us, the direction we've been pushed into, unbeknownst to us, analogous to what we've all been drawn into (it so happens, accidentally, that he even verbalized it - like a prophet, by chance - although it's clear he had other things in mind, it turned out to be just like a piece of synchronicity pulled back from years ago into this moment... If we let the imagination run further, even the train can be understood as a metaphor - unstoppably rushing towards the impending singularity, accentuating the inevitability of what is to come. Charlie dropping the coin to start the game with child-like awe, seeing the train model off as a goodbye to the unassisted functioning of our everyday lives. As he is watching it go, it's as if he watches our future unfold. Again, the train can also be seen as a vehicle to that future. Jim's face in slow motion, enjoying the wind in his hair, the freedom, the uncertainty ahead; appreciative of the quality of the moment when we used to enjoy simple things, when our Minds were Simpler and we were more in touch with nature and ourselves, as opposed to today's uptempo, promotion of upside-down values, fakeness overload and screen overtime preconditioning young children's brains for the need for instant gratification, turning them into digital addicts... as online presence is establishing itself as an imperative sine qua non; easy access to masses when everyone knows that propaganda is the way to fool the unaware ones into engaging against each other - but let's not forget the bright side of having so much information at hand and being able to reach other people in the blink of an eye in order to share something as uplifting as art. The instrumental in this video is beyond beautiful.

Thanks Andrea, I enjoyed reading your comment and do agree with a lot of it, particularly screen overload and the effects its having on our children. That was a great tour and the people in that clip looked so happy. I especialy liked Tessie, becuase she was a force of confidence, you can see it in her face and Robins warm reaction to her. The muisc, I was a little unsure about, as its a live composition then coppied in a loop. Took the same amount of time to write as it did to play and I can never trust mayself. Anything that comes that easy cant be that good. MM x

@@mickmacneil1 Mick, I love this loop-so much so that, after seeing your comment that it can't be that good, I had to write a song around it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7yjh8ar2t2aoI0.html Considering you delivered it in a beautiful Erik Satie-like style, I'm not sure why I went and turned it into a Bee Gees/Genesis thing. Of course, I'll take it down if you don't like it.

@mickmacneil1, it can! Being a perfectionist myself, I see where you're coming from. Yet, don't be so harsh on yourself... This is a beautiful, beautiful dreamy melody with a lot of potential (sounds corny, but it's the truth). Although it's very short, it has a familiar essence, it carries something that draws one to it. A sprout of happiness, some sweet, nostalgic energy that cannot be described, but is felt very clearly and fits so well into the vibe of this video. I've replayed it tens of times over and over again before going to sleep: a perfect lullaby - and more. The sound of piano/synth in your instrumentals is captivating, you've turned SM music into a completely new organism, giving it a new life of its own. When heard, it aires images of endless sunny, wide horizons and hope. Thank you for sharing!

I always find it quite frightening to see people with their heads stuck out of a train window, especially Jim Kerr's precious head. Okay, there would have been no trains on the side where Jim was but how did he know there wasn't anything in his forth coming path head on. I agree with one of the earlier comments, just great to see how human Simple Minds band members were whilst under a hectic tour schedule. Look forward to some more videos like this Mick. Thank you Mick. Been wanting to tell you what your music meant to me and you just "cannae" describe what kind of lightning in a bottle it was that Charlie, Derek, Jim, John, Brian were there to help turn it into music that soared above everything else. You'll always be the musician that had something I clocked out of all of what was around and there'll never be another like you. Thank you for these, feels like I can remember every breath I took during this time from trying to get into the Kabuki (too young) finally succeeding at the Warfield, Greek Theater, Kaiser, Greek again, Mannheim Eisstadion where I was jammed so tight in the front I could lift my feet and rest a wee bit. Was heartbroken to know you left but completely understand why. Just want you to know you were missed....greatly. I'm glad I'm able to somewhat connect here and it's like the sun shining on my heart to see the band being themselves when the lights go out. "One of the best" doesn't even come close.
