Adjusting your Rebel 1100's suspension is a game changer and SUPER easy to do- today I'm showing you how!
The suspension on the stock Rebel 1100 is one of the biggest complaints you hear from owners of the bike, and it was one of my biggest complaints too, but within just a few minutes you can fix your Rebel's suspension and get it dialed in better than ever!
Before making any adjustments to your Rebel's preload, make sure to check out this link to learn all you can about preload and how it affects your ride- lifeatlean.com/teach-me-suspe...
Also, be sure to check out ‪@QuasiMotard‬ to get a more in-depth analysis of the Rebel 1100's suspension and how to accurately determine which preload settings are best for you! / quasimotard
What settings have you found to be the best for your Rebel 1100's front and rear suspension?
Thanks for watching, and be sure to follow me on Instagram for more daily stuff! @Life.Of.Burch

@@LifeOfBurch We will be rolling through your part of the world on July 7-9th range. We are headed up to Bar Harbor, ME on our little Super Cub C125's to ride in the Scooter Cannonball Run. The closest point on our tentative path looks like Gainsboro, VA (~120 miles away). We could probably adjust our route further south around Waynesboro to come up the Atlantic side through Alexandria. ( Tentative route is here: goo.gl/maps/ACyUqz9tjZkJcUxk9 ) Just brainstormin'... 😉👍

A commenter on Quasimotard’s suspension video said that the service manual says 18 clicks from top to bottom, not 20. Be careful not to over adjust. I set my back to 10 clicks and used Quasi’s zip tie trick to see if I was bottoming out. Before adjustment definitely was bottoming out. Would compress about 1/2 just sitting on the bike (I weigh just under 200lbs). Putting the rear suspension at 10 and no more bottoming out. Now I get about 1/4 compression sitting on the bike instead of 1/2 (1/2 of the total movement of the shock travel). I also adjusted the front shocks and I believe I put 4 additional full turns on those.

Thanks for the Simple Tutorial for a Newbie on this ride. I weigh around 150 lbs so if the setting was Factory 3 position chances are from what I have felt taking it up to 5 and the 1/2 turn up front may well be just what is needed. At least worth finding out anyway.. . Excellent Video. . Quasi did a great one and am sure will be checking back with him for further info, but right now plan to keep it simple and you did this well.

You could easily go from 0-20 preload without damaging the bike. If it was experiencing sag and tightening the preload made the suspension move you might want to alternates couple of clicks on either side until it is fully extended but you don’t have to. The main reason for adjusting slowly then testing is that any changes can be evaluated for better or worse before continuing. I recommend only one change front or back at a time. When setting up a new bike make one change then ride and evaluate this gives you a result of one particular cause and effect.

Actually, you do not make the suspension firmer by adjusting the preload. Damping and rebound would do that but the rebel does not have fully adjustable suspension. The preload only adjusts the suspension sag when you are sitting on the bike. You should always have positive and negative suspension travel when sitting on the bike. Measure the amont of sag with a measuring tape or as said with a zip tie. Having the preload to tight will lead to no negative suspension travel, this will feel stiff, but actually it is not stiffer, just dangerous if you go over humps at speed and your wheel looses contact to the ground. Preload can be measured and adjusted once and then be left alone if the load of the bike does not change. But just to make sure, the thing you should measure is the sag (pos ans neg suspension travel) and not the percieved feeling of stiffness because actually you cannot adjust the stiffness on this bike.

I am 5'9" and ride a sportster with forward pegs. Tried out the rebel last week. The problem is the vertical an horizontal distance of the pegs from the seat. You will habe to try it but o assume that your knees will be higher then your hips. The pegs are not far back as to allow your legs to fold under you as on a speed twin or similar bikes. And they are so far back that you will be left with a small knee angle wothnyour legs not under but in front of you. But wait for the after sales market market to bring yout some forward pegs (as they did for the 500) and try that out as well.

Unfortunately, you are completely wrong, preload is not to make your suspension harder or softer. You might increase preload to stop you bottoming out but changing preload does not make your suspension stiffer or softer, you are just changing where your shock is sitting in its stroke.
