Thank you for making a video available for those of us who use on camera flash. I am quite often disappointed in videos that show lighting with multiple standalone studio flash units. Your video was informative and inspirational.

Very helpful .. Thanks! Question: Using the Flashpoint or Godox flash like you had .. and using TTL .. is there a tick you can do to get the same feature of TCM .. so .. to take a shot in TTL .. like what you see and then use those settings .. to adjust the flash manually?

That's only going to work with a white wall at the side isn't it? Great video as always but I normally have to shoot theatre head shots against a dark background in a large room with no walls to the side and a high ceiling. Can yo do a video on such a situation please? Thanks.

Very nice tutorial Mark. I am surprised of how soft the light looks even though you are using a bare flash. Granted, it is being reflected from the wall, but still it looks rather soft. Thank you.

That's the benefit of bouncing off a large surface. And it also allows you to keep camera shake to a minimum since the flash freezes motion.
@PabloB888

He was shooting from a very long distance and additionally in white room like this light will bounce everywhere multiple times no matter where you will point your flash.

This is an honest question. With an on-camera flash and long lens do you get different lighting than with a short lens? Does standing way back give you reduced light falloff resulting in more even lighting?

The only different comment I can make is - I wish videos were made in manual focus set-up, the pulsing from focus tracking is becoming a bit too much from so many, very accomplished, photographers. In video there has to be no loss of focus any pulsing in a TV or film production would render the footage unusable - as I know you absolutely know this. Sorry for mentioning this but apart from that - further good explanations from you - stay safe.

Mark - if you can give a quick answer, I would appreciate it - how were you able to used flash against a white background and not have any shadows on the straight-on flash shots ? I enjoy your work Thanks.
@PabloB888

I can see a shadow on the white background on his direct flash examples, but it's much less darker and softer because he was shooting from very long distance and I bet white wall on the left helped too. .

I don't get it why do you need a flash at all. You have a nice big window behind you and it is all white. Maybe just move the chair a bit in the center of the room.

With the flash, you can direct the light and shape it. It's a technique that can be used at almost any time of day and in different environments.

Great video. But Mark, you need to practice your "Juana" pronunciation. Not because my name is Juan, but because you need to learn to say "Juana es una mina preciosa" as a true argentinian. The key is to pronounce an strong "Who", (like in Who is she?) and remember she is Juana like Anna. Who?-Anna Who-Anna WhoAnna = Juana. Just kidding. Great to know that your again in Latin america. Greetings from Bogota.
