Why are my reports showing traffic sources Unassigned? Who are these users? How can I clarify this? In this video we’re going to talk about traffic sources and specifically Unassigned traffic. Unassigned traffic is a very common problem that I see with a lot of my clients GA4 properties. But it is easy to solve. In this video you will learn how.

What about the problem with the blank row in the source/medium report? For example, position 7 in your video at the 2-minute mark.

To be honest, I don't know.. I do not see that very often in my reports. But since it represents only 1% of traffic here I would not worry about it too much. What I do see very often is (not set) in session source / medium, like on row 4 on 2-minute mark. I see that everywhere in various degrees and it seems that nobody really knows why that's there...

Do you have a 'Library' option at the bottom of the menu? If you have the right permissions you will be able to 'publish' the 'Life cycle' collection there.

it would help if I could identify URLs where users landed and where they came from that led to unassigned traffic/conversions.

You could do this by going to your session channel groups and clicking the '+' button. If you add the 'landing page' dimension next to your channel groups you should be able to see this. It helps to make the amount of rows in your report longer and to search for 'unassigned'.

What should I do to resolve unassigned traffic if I don't know where the users are coming from and the landing page is the home page?

Is it possible to resolve the data that already reports as Unassigned rather than fixing new data to not report as Unassigned?

Personally I like to get things right at the source. Thats why I like the solution proposed in this video. You do not get historical data, but that resolves itself over time. If you need history or you simply have no influence over UTM tagging, you have the option to create a custom channel group. This feature was rolled out in GA4 about a week after I made this video, otherwise I would have surely mentioned it... I will probably shoot a follow up video about custom channel groups one day, but in the meantime here is a link to the documentation: support.google.com/analytics/answer/13051316
