really surprised this does not have more views and likes. I'm looking into a similar mechanism for a Harrison lathe and also auto retraction of the cutting tool itself.

Hi thanks for that, I thought that more people would like this, just have to drill one hole, thread and add a lift cylinder. I didn't think anyone was interested. Rich

Why does the carriage handle seem to have a bind?

Hi, it doesn't. there is no spring to cause it to fully snap to the rest position. the feed does stop every time.
