Simple tip to finding a Short on a Circuit board

If you are having trouble narrowing down a short on a PCB Board, Mainboard and you have noticed that the board is heating up but cannot pin point the area, this is my tip to help narrow it down

This is the Blue Pad i always have on my videos usually set at 60 Oc
I use this to soften adhesive on mobile devices.

Used to open ipad and remove glued back covers on phones

When using the heat gun near sensitive parts, its best to cover them
With this to protect them

Wow never tried it that way! Mostly with a multimeter. A good way to narrow down the area! Nice to learn something new and different!

I had a short one time and it actually ignited the isopropyl I sprayed on it. I've been a little bit more cautious while using it since then.

Try rosin atomizers for short detection in small areas. Cheap and convenient.... if you're doing that kind of stuff for more than once.

So the short heats up part of the board locally and this is revealed by the evaporation. May I ask if there is no short and the board is functioning ok, is the heat generated a lot less than if shorted and therefore much lower rate of evaporation? I have a 2009 logic board from MacBook that is not booting and I have removed it to attempt to use its power "buzz bars" to boot to no avail. No fan no nothing. Thanks

this is only a single tool in a variety of methods in finding a short, different shorts will produce different symptoms, some might not get hot

isopropyl alcohol is not cheap and hard to find where im from...and i dont know soldering... but good, direct info as usual 👍

I found the shorted line and injected voltage but rosin did not melt. How many volts and amps do you inject? It's an easy but confusing thing to do

I used 99.9% IPA on a PCB to clean flux residue off recently and it blew some components when I switch the PCB on.
