The other bigger change that is being ignored is : As Apple moved to the M2, they switched to newer NAND chips that provided 256GB of storage per chip. This meant that the base model M2 MacMini with just 256GB of storage had only one NAND chip, and the performance of the SSD was impacted as a result.

@@oo0024 The vast majority of people buying base model are used to SATA speeds. Base model still runs at 2-3X sata SSD speeds. It's more than fast enough for regular consumers.

Can I grab your opinion on the following: Looking at the m1 base vs m2 base minis. Found m1 for $100 cheaper than m2 which is not material but nice. ($699 Canadian for M1 - its on sale for $200 off and M2 is $799) Will be using it for work on my 49 inch samsung g9 ultrawide monitor - I work in finance. Usually I have all of the following open: Email, word and excel, a finance cloud software application, a finance software application installed on the desktop, few internet chrome tabs for research, and a small widget like timer. Im looking to go with the faster machine which seems to look like the M1.

I wish you would have done a speed test on these. Frankly, that is the main difference between the two is the M2 chip.

I use my work mac m1 mini with 3 monitors, 2 monitors natively supported and a display link adapter to add support for a third monitor.

3:52 M1 model can support 2 monitor, but it have to be one HDMI and one thunderbolt connection. I have a docking station connects to two monitors, it only recognize the docking station as one monitor and show duplicated content on both screen.

I want to buy 8 GB, 256 GB Version. I work with one monitor. Mainly MS office and browsing. M1 is now costing a bit cheaper, so that money can be utilised for buying any other accessory like web cam or something. So can I go for M1 Mac mini and save some money or M2 is better?

If your use is web browsing and ms office , surely 8 gb 256 gb would be fine . M1 or m2 ? Get the cheaper one , with student discount.

whichever will ve fine. m2 is only marginally faster. max 30% but if you work on bigger files and like more fast SSD than go with M1. - it has MUCH faster ssd drive speed. means much faster copying etc.

@@rocheuro thank you I decided to go M1 - faster ssd which will be noticeably faster in my day to day work whereas a better graphics card (M2) will be unnoticeable. And I saved $100 on a computer that is already a good price! I will see massive improvements to my productivity because I’m coming from a 2015 iMac lol.
