My 2009 335i e93 M-Sport engine started with a slight knock when over revving or changing gears. Now it has seized totally and I am advised to buy another engine. But then I cant beat the curiosity to know the problem. I just can't keep on buying. So your video has just curled the enthusiasm.

Great job mate, you are a legend. Where did you get the assembly instruction from? I will also be rebuilding an N55 over the coming weeks. I am just paranoid about the first start and priming the oil after spinning # 1 on multiple occasions. Please take care when you first start your engine my friend. I am hoping that the third time will be a charm.
@SimpleCarGuy
@SimpleCarGuy 3 жыл бұрын
I use ISTA or TIS website when it works. As far as the first start, there is a special function on BMW diagnostics tool that will prime the system. If I remember correctly, it will spin the engine without ignition or fuel until oil pressure builds up and then you can fire it up normally. I'll have to check it again before I start it for the first time and probably make a video about it. Somehow your comment fell through the filter! Thanks for watching!

I started watching your video and decided to put work on hold for a few minutes LOL love this video as it hits home with me. I currently drive a 2013 550 I Gran Turismo with approximately 64,000 km on it. I’ve been told all kinds of horror stories about N63 and N63TU variant. So it’s nice to see that you’re able to fix your vehicle by you yourself . Not to mention, you’re using some cheaper tools that are affordable as opposed to expensive tools. Which could make it, a little cost prohibitive for some people if they were to run out and buy all of the expensive tools. Although, we all love our tools right? I did have a question though, just wondering if you think I should be proactive on changing out the Vanos solenoid as I’ve heard many horror stories about it in my vehicle?
@SimpleCarGuy
@SimpleCarGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate you watching! I have a 2014 550i as well, so I know the horror stories that are floating around and sometimes I worry, but I'm at almost 80,000 miles and almost 4 years of ownership with no issues at all other than regular maintenance. I sure love my tools and wanna buy all the good stuff, but it get's expensive as you mentioned. Once I have mostly everything I'd need, I might start replacing the tools I use with higher quality ones. We'll see! Anyway, as far as VANOS solenoids, I wouldn't touch them unless you are having issues like rough idle, bad fuel economy etc.
@whymedude88
@whymedude88 3 жыл бұрын
@@SimpleCarGuy I always seem to find a way to buy more tools :) Thanks for the advice on the Vanos solenoid. I was actually thinking to replace it. The cost here isn’t that bad to do it, so will see what happens. Idle seems to be ok, the mileage/fuel economy is terrible so not sure about that part. I get 17 km per 100 litters of fuel in city (ouch) and 11 km on the highway. My brother-in-law says it’s almost the same as his full size Ford pickup.

the backplate to block sealant, I love the fact that you don't have to use the nipples to spread that thing around. Any idea if there are updated instructions for all engines? Mine is a 2012 N51 from a 328i coupe engine. Same deal I would much rather not have to squeeze the sealant it seems much easier the way you did it. What about at the main seals where you're supposed to use the primer from the little bottle once the sealant leaks out through there? Let me know what you think.

Hi, thanks for the informative video. Quick question my coefficient of friction is about 5 nm to get started but once moving is around 2nm. Do you know if that is within spec? It’s 2nm pretty much instantly. Just the initial movement if I leave it for a day or a few hours is around 5 To 6 nm

May I know the n55 rod bearing bolt torque spec? Because I found the spec from web is 20nm and then 70degrees and then 70degrees again , when I follow this progress method, the crankshaft wont move freely, so I follow your method with 20nm and then 70degrees , the crankshaft can move freely without friction

@SimpleCarGuy
@SimpleCarGuy 2 жыл бұрын
If by center screw, you mean the main engine bolt that goes on the crankshaft, then if you have got it loose, you will have to retime the engine. If you pulled the bolt out, the sprocket on it could have fallen in (the one that drives the oil pump).

So I’m in the same situation with my N54 and I bought the same exact bearings. What I’m having a issue with is that the trust bearing oil hole is not lining up perfect. I noticed in your video they are the exact same. Isn’t that a flaw?
