Wow, I didn't appreciate this song back then as much as I do now. Only because now I am 26 years old and I feel almost every word of this song could be for my dad. Last time he spoke to me, he said that he'd rather have a dead son than a deadbeat son. He's always thought I've done nothing with my life or at least not to his standards and this song just hit my heart, wounding a vein that seems to bleed slowly through. Anyway, really love this song and now relate to it even more.

I remember when I was in the seventh grade we had to do a report on our favorite song at the time this happened to be it. my dad and I weren’t getting along. We wouldn’t really talk I mean at all and when I did want to talk to him, it always ended up an argument and we both said some things that would hurt each other. I look back on it and think I could’ve done better as a teenager but it wasn’t my deal to do better rather than his job to be a better communicator with me. over the years we’ve gotten better we talk a little bit more, but I’ll never forget how I felt so alone and not perfect I have two boys of my own today I’m gonna go and I’m gonna hug them when I get home and tell them that they’re perfect and I’m proud of them. The song hits just a little bit different now.
