Demonstration of a recently evolved method of testing addressable Simplex TrueAlert notification devices. The method shown in this video involves the use of a magnet to test addressable TrueAlert ES speaker/strobes on a 4100ES panel. This is termed the "manual" self-test method. There is also an "automatic" self-test method which was demonstrated in one of my prior videos on a 4007ES. Follow the link below or at the end of this video to see that demonstration.

Great video 😀👍👍 Simplex is very interesting, to say the least. I’ve been Having very mixed opinions about them, the last few years. I miss the easier days of conventional systems!

That's pretty neat. They don't use the addressable TrueAlert signals in this part of Massachusetts, not even in Boston. Even if the Simplex system is addressable (and it typically is) they always go with conventional TrueAlert signals (typically with the multi-candela strobes). I think it's because the AHJ for this area doesn't allow use of addressable fire alarm signals.

The test tone that plays when you to the self test with the magnet on the Truealert ES Speaker Strobes needs to be changed to a 1,000 Hz test tone because the horn like test tone could scare the inspectors/testers as they're inches away from the speaker that makes the horn sound

Why does the TrueAlert make that weird sound? Why does it audibly click?
@weatherdan882002
@weatherdan882002 5 жыл бұрын
The one second loud sound is the speaker confirming audible operation. The clicking sound you hear is just the strobe flashing - all devices make that noise.

And what does All Speakers Talk mean on some Simplex panels?
@weatherdan882002
@weatherdan882002 5 жыл бұрын
@@Emmisullivan14 When the panel operator wants to broadcast a message to all the speakers in the building, they'll select that button, take out the microphone at the panel, press the button on the microphone, and usually after a brief tone (usually a chime sound) plays over the speakers alerting building occupants of a message about to be broadcast, the person operating the microphone will speak into it and the message will be heard throughout the entire building. The panel could also have messages programmed into it to be broadcast instead of a live message.

Each speaker turns on when self-test is initiated. The sounds you are hearing is the audio feedback as each device is polled.

@Brandon 268-735 The tones/messages are generated by the audio circuits from the panel, not the alarm itself.

Is that test tone programmed into each speaker/strobe, or is it broadcast through the audio line of the system?
@safetech
@safetech 5 жыл бұрын
Its an audio supervision tone originating from the panel.
@FireAlarmTech7.
@FireAlarmTech7. 5 жыл бұрын
It plays that tone so the speaker can be tested for efficiency. the “testing channel x, device y” method is for initiating devices (pull stations, smoke and heat sensors) it wouldn’t make sense if they used that method for the self test feature.
