Check also Faun with Einor Selvik with the song Odin. Somewhat related to this video. Odin sacrificed his eye to gain knwoledge of the runes in Norse mythology. Also the title of this song Galdra (or Galdr) references ancient magical practises through song and poetry.
@draug7966

In old norse, "Galdra" means magical songs or chants that the Völva's (sort of prophetesses) used to sing. I might be wrong, but i think the idea is that the white-clad woman can see into the spirit world with that creepy looking eye after Lindy-Fay performed a Galdr, similar to how Odin sacrificed one eye to Mimir.

The eye story is a reference to Odin. The tree is most likely Yggdrasil and Odin sacrificed an eye to get the knowledge of rune magic. Galdr magic if my memory serves well was a type of magic reserved to women.

If you’re in Germany and like medieval markets and festivals it’s not so uncommon to stumble upon these guys. And their music is very enchanting. I like it a lot. They did a fantastic collaboration with Eluveitie. The song is called Gwydion. I was blown away from it. I wish they would do a whole album together.

I also vote for Gwydion! It's one of the most powerful songs Faun has ever made. When Chrigel from Eluveitie comes in at the end of the song, it explodes the song into the most epic thing I've ever heard!!!

I liked this, and just added it to my playlist. I, too, like this genre a lot. You will probably also like the music of Eluveitie. In fact, one of my favorites is a collaboration between Faun and Eluveitie called 'Gwydion". Check it out along with these 2 from Eluveitie: A Rose for Epona and The Call of the Mountains. Eluveitie is a French group whose lead vocalist, Fabiene Ermi, is really, really good.

Tommy, I can't believe it!🖤🌙✨️🌾 Faun are not only a major influence of my pagan worldview, but even a major part of my entire life history. I can't even recall how often I was hanging out with the bandmembers and past bandmembers for hours, surrounded by campfires and the magic of medieval markets. I love all of them as human beings and even on a personal level, despite the fact that they are some of the most skillful and versatile musicians in the entire world. My kindred spirits and such a huge part of who I became and who I am, and you react to them! I'm actually speechless - thank you so much. It means the world to me to see those beautiful souls getting the love they deserve!🖤✨️🌙🌿🌾 I could talk about so many moments I experienced with them, but I don't want my comment to become a novel, so I just end with love and light...✨️🌙

As a believer (and practitioner), I understand that music speaks to the soul and from the soul. I envy that you were able to know such gifted and outstanding people. Having experienced many different religions throughout my 54 years, the only thing that stood out to me is the hypocrisy of the mainstream religions. The only ones that didn't feel "oily", "greasy" or false/fake were the Pagans, Wiccans or Druids. Could be that is why the old ways are coming back.

Faun is based on the Middle Ages and is therefore a typically German band. Talking about pagans is therefore actually wrong, as there were hardly any left at that time. They are significantly quieter and more modern than Heilung or Wardruna. They emerged as a trio in 1999, but quickly only Oliver “SaTyr” Pade remained. He is the male singer and continues to expand the band until it has 6 members today. What is striking is the frequent change in female singers. After all, the sources in the Middle Ages are significantly better than in the Viking Age. The modern music notation system was created there. Before, the systems were more memory aids. But the complex choirs in the monasteries required precise coordination and an equally precise system. There current single FAUN - Ylfa Spere (Official Video) FAUN - Walpurgisnacht (Official Video) FAUN - Tanz mit mir (Duett mit Santiano) FAUN - Diese kalte Nacht (Official Video)

Love Faun and this song. I agree that they are absolutely magical. I'm also a fan of the hurdy gurdy, the instrument with the hand cranked drone wheel. A favorite hurdy gurdy song that I'd like to suggest for you is "Cicatrecise" by Guilhem Desq

What he does with the gurdy is to expand its capabilities and sounds into places where traditional gurdies have never gone. I play the gurdy myself and when I look at what he's doing it simply amazes me. I might start experimenting with a few things myself.

I am starting to suspect that I have been lying to myself. I have said that I don't care about my legacy, or that I want to have as little impact as possible. A very "leave no trace" mindset. I am starting to think it's just a different manifestation of my depression, of my shame and doubt. That I am running away from a purpose driven life and calling it noble.

Dead Can Dance - "Children Of The Sun" next, since you liked Heilung and this one. Dead Can Dance are an Australian neoclassical darkwave band from Melbourne. Currently composed of Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, the group formed in 1981. Dead Can Dance's style can be described as "constructed soundscapes of mesmerising grandeur and solemn beauty; African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chant, Middle Eastern music, mantras, and art rock are their influences.

You don’t know what that signifies? Odin had one eye for seeing in the everyday world, and the other eye ( which he kept hidden, mostly) for seeing in the un-ordinary world. I heard that once Loki joked that Odin was an old woman….may have something to do with this, although I hardly thing this supplicant was particularly “old”!
