Lyrics
Holding back the years
Thinking of the fear I've had so long
When somebody hears
Listen to the fear that's gone
Strangled by the wishes of pater
Hoping for the arms of mater
Get to me the sooner or later, oh
Holding back the years
Chance for me to escape from all I know
Holding back the tears
'Cause nothing here has grown
I've wasted all my tears
Wasted all those years
Nothing had the chance to be good
Nothing ever could, yeah, oh
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on, so tight
Alright, oh now
Well, I've wasted all my tears
Wasted all of those years
And nothing had the chance to be good
'Cause nothing ever could, oh yeah
Oh
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
I'll keep holding on
Holding
Holding
Holding
Holding, la-la-la, la, la-la
I said, ooh, yeah
That's all I have today
It's all I have to say
Simply Red have over a billion hits on KZfaq, have sold over 60 million albums worldwide, 5 going to number one in the UK. Their 1991 classic Stars was the best-selling album for two years running in Britain and Europe. They have had two US Billboard chart toppers with classic singles Holding Back The Years and If You Don’t Know Me By Now. Every Simply Red studio album has been a UK top ten (with previous release Big Love reaching number 4 in 2015). Hucknall has been the songwriter and bandleader since the beginning in 1985.

Dear Karyn ... Life is deeper than any challenge. Do not ever give up, never. The challenge is just a test of your persistence, will, faith. I do Yoga therapy with people who have various mental challenges and the results are great. If I can help you in any way, leave a message ... an e-mail address and I'll send you a program I'm doing with people here in England. Of course, everything is free. I don't sell anything....

To my adored son; Losing you took the roar out of my lion heart, the sun out of my sky...I am not capable of understanding why you were taken away so young, I cannot express to the universe enough how meaningful, amazing and good you were, now everyday is cruel...it’s brutal, your absence is like an elephant on my chest...I miss you, Oh god, I miss you so much! I have accepted life gets no better than the 20 amazing years, I was blessed with you. I promise to honor your life and one day sweet boy, I will hold you again...I know you are with me because I wouldn’t still be here if you weren’t. Lifetimes of Love...Mom💔 •Kyle David StrIckland• 6/17/97~1/21/18 ...you used to beg me to stop singing this song in my high pitch aggravating singing, the memories are bittersweet...every thing has a nostalgia of you...😢

:-P "Who gives a fuck about a goddamn Grammy?" - Public Enemy. They have a point (music industry is corrupt and conformist, not revolutionary). Yet YOU have a point, too, as does the song. :-) I wish for a world where the popular culture ups its game again, to reflect GOOD ART (meaningful, spiritual-level art). Not this worthless, destructive materialism and fear. Mid-late 1990s was a peak in some senses. The 1980s had some great artists, too. In ALL genres (I like a lot of metal, for example and Metallica in the 1980s were a popular force, of the people, for the people, telling it how it was and not corrupt - then came MTV in 1989). Things have gotten bad since 2000s. 9/11 has a lot to answer for in making people conformist due to fear and surveillance (which is why the powers that be did it - to force negative change, the despicable fuckers). Good art is revolutionary in the face of that negativity.

I totally agree. The music that we love reminds us of different periods in our lives. Memories of going to achool, college, and raising our children. It reminds us of birth and when we have lost those we have loved through death. My oldest daughter was born when this came out. She remembers me singing to her. I love this song.
