I've searched for a 335i and if you're on a budget it's impossible to find a manual. Even if you do find one it'll have significantly more mileage and a higher price.

I have no regrets getting an auto 😎, but I plan on getting a manual in the future as a 2nd car.

Only reason I didn't get a manual in my 335i or 135i is because it's impossible to find a clean example of a manual car without a stupid markup of 5k. At least that's the case here in Oregon. Also you should get the xhp stage 3 flash

Exactly , manuals are fun but if it's your daily driver automatic is much easier , I chose automatic 335 myself

I feel your opinion. My treyway 3 pedal 335i is great but it's not my daily so I understand the commute plus traffic.

xHP flash is amazing. Stage 2 is a huge improvement over gearbox setup. removes alot of the limitations, faster shifts and its safe for the transmission

I have always loved BMW and LOVE manual transmission for the driver engagement out on open roads. That said, the veneer of driving experience wears off fast in rush hour traffic with all the stop and go, what a hassle to constantly engage clutch and slip it into gear. Autos are so good performance-wise now and with the addition of paddle shifting gives the driving experience of controlling shifts when you want it and the comfort of not having to shift when it becomes a task. I drive anywhere from 30 to 100 plus miles daily... And in ny traffic usually 2 hrs for a 45 minute drive. 07 335i ...if I had a manual I would not be having fun in stop and go traffic

Most people who claim manual is better probably dont know how to drive a manual properly anyway. The tiptronic with paddle shifts are fun when you want to do some spirited driving, most of the time I'm glad to have an automatic when I m stuck in traffic

If you get the alpina flash or the xhp you will notice a huge difference especially with the paddle shifters, i had it for the last 20,000+ miles and it shifts great at almost 100,000 K miles!

I have the Propulsive Dynamics Transmission and xHP Stage 3... manual paddle shifting is very fast, while automatic sport WOT shifting is BRUTAL and violent.

The zf 8 speed from BMW is one of the best automatics out there. I love driving a manual as much as the next guy, but honestly auto's provide much more performance and still allows you to be engaged via paddle shifters. I just sold my 5 speed mustang and am looking to get a bmw 435i with the zf 8 speed. Again, great video man, I'll definitely be subscribing. Ted

Just purchased a 2013 bmw 335i xdrive 6 speed manual m sport. Insanely happy with my purchase. Only has 30k miles and got it for a steal. Driving a manual is not hard at all, this is my first manual and i love it.

I have a bad leg (accident) and can not drive a three pedal car. I LOVE my SMG. Love, love love it. That is why I bought the E46 M3. I just had the tiny 12V pump motor removed, taken a part and cleaned of volumes of brush dust. That little motor is the issue more than anything else. Keep it healthy and you can avoid a lot of problems I live in South Florida and commute 45 miles round trip on I-95 during rush hour. I would have the SMG (or a DCT) even if my leg was OK. I got the CSL SMG tune, Uber fast DCT speed shifts. I have driven manuals all my life and do NOT miss them. BTW, Ferrari and I think Lambos do not currently even MAKE cars with stick shift. They are all paddle shift now.

I chose a automatic over manual because im a calm driver. I dont want to concentrate on shifting all the time. And when i want to drive sporty, i use the paddles. But it depends on the car. Some cars (like toyota supra, Honda civics, mustang) are better with manual transmission.

As you know this week I bought a '08 335i auto, today I learnt by accident that when you flick your shifter to M/S, if you don't touch the paddles the symbol 'DS' appears on the dash which means it'll still shift automatically without paddle input but in a more aggressive manner, essentially a sports mode. Very cool and very quick. I'm with you Omar, my previous car was a Porsche 911/996 also auto and I was quicker off the mark than other 996's with the manual transmission. Even the worlds number one racing drivers 'Formula 1' use paddles, and that speaks volumes!

Bought an 07 BMW 335i fully loaded with an automatic transmission. Fun car to drive and at the moment I’m making my 1992 BMW 325i a 3.0 liter. Whenever that gets done and I miss the stick, I’ll just hop into my 325i.

I been driving for 10 years in manual cars never owned automatic in Brooklyn Ny never had a complaint in stop and go traffic.. you guys complaining are trying it to justify the fact that you either can’t drive stick or you’re scared to. Man up and use that third pedal..

I chose an auto because it holds boost between shifts, manuals will drop boost between shifts. Go see some youtube videos and see for your selves. It all depends what you are going to be doing with your car.

I have a E92 328i xDrive, and I beat myself up everyday thinking getting an automatic was acceptable. Going to trade it in for a manual for sure. I thought being able to eat while you drive would be a luxury I would enjoy, or just not have to care about shifting, but I miss it. Maybe you make a point regarding the tune, but the stock tune for the trans really sucks..

I didn’t realise there was so much lag between the time of pulling on the paddle and the transmission actually changing gear 😢

I totally agree with you brother on that subject! It just depends on what you're looking for! To say you're not a real driver unless you drive a manual transmission sominds like someone who is bandwagoning! Both of them are cool, but I would bet on an automatic tuned 335i all day with paddle shifters because it's hands down faster than a manual! That's no knock on a manual. Plus in the heat of racing you grab the wrong gear and boom! Transmission gone! So I'm with you on that!

I live in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. When you live in a big city that has lots of stop and go traffic an Automatic Transmission is a lot more convenient and a lot less work. Also I am 67 years old and have noticed the trend of Automatic Transmissions getting a lot better over the years. They now have more speeds forward and they have lock up torque converters, so now there is no fuel milage and performance differences between and Automatic and a Manual. Also there has been a trend in the United States over the years of a slow decline in manual transmissions. There are fewer cars available with a manual transmissions.

LA downtown to Santa Monica Pier is only 10 miles, but during the he traffic, which is most of times...... It can take 45-1 hour. If you ever drove in LA... You will understand why automatic transmission is preferred.

I disagree. I could never get an auto in a sports car, it just wouldn't feel right no matter how fast it is. The clutch adds a whole new dimension to the driving experience IMO. It teaches you a lot as a driver how you manage the car and you actually get to know the engine pretty well, what it behaves like a lot better than in an auto. At least in SoCal, there isn't a shortage of manual 335i's so I don't see much of a price difference either. There is def an argument for what happens after you go past a certain horsepower but at that point, the car becomes more of a straight line machine not a track car. Personally, not my style but I see that argument at least. Also, I know that in the US, not just anyone can drive your car which honestly is a bit of a draw for me for theft protection and family/friends. I live in San Diego and I commute in a S2000, I have quite a bit of traffic on my way there but it never bothered me, just give a gap and let it idle creep. I got really good at manual to the point I can clutchless shift without stressing and even heel toe everywhere so traffic isn't a concern really. Well, either way, as long as you KNOW how to drive manual you're ok with me at least lol and I know you know that much ;)

Nothing wrong with getting a auto 335i lol, manuals are pretty hard to come by especially in my area. But if I had the choice between the two, manual is my obvious choice hands down. Unless it’s a 335is with DCT, then that’s worth getting over a manual gearbox.

Go to your favorite used car site and filter 3 series for manual. Even ignoring budget, it's almost impossible to find a low-ish mileage one. In 2-3 years, it will probably be impossible. Get one while you can dudes.

Let them hate dude. Next car I get no matter what is gonna have a stick, and living in San Francisco with it is no doubt gonna suck at first but I know I’ll be better at driving stick than most people. Isn’t it cheaper to service a manual transmission than it is an automatic for beamers though?

My 335 is a manual but I mainly just drive back roads I get it even in the short times I sit in traffic it is annoying and people also get on my ass cause I start out slower but then I just leave them behind so it's fine

Well here's the rationale I feel especially after you shared that Gene Wilder meme, maybe you're just not a smooth manual transmission driver and you get anxious and have a heavy foot and that doesn't relate to smooth driving. I have both automatic and manual my n54 is a manual and it shifts like butter better than even some automatics do but then again I learned how to drive a manual car since I was a kid when it was acceptable for your parents to take you to a parking lot and let you sit in their lap and then eventually you get a car when you're young that's a manual transmission and it goes from there maybe you're just too new to manual transmissions when you started out?

What i dont like about the paddles is that you need to have both your hands on the steeringwheel all the time, which is how you should drive proper and safe, true, but lets be honest if you're comfy driving you wont be doing or wanting that all the time.

I grew up with a manual, my old man, mom, and my gf slaps that's stick around it's kinda all I know lol, traffic is not a issue, hills are piece of cake the engagement is fun. Manual is a lost art now and only a few car manufacturers have manual trans for the majority if their current line up but whatevs

got an automatic in mine for similar reasons. Its my daily, I already have a manual transmission in my foxbody didn't want another one. Automatics are better for daily driving. Only little ass kids make fun of someone for getting an automatic. Plus in my area 335i's with a stick are more money so I just couldn't justify it.

Yes the automatic is faster than manual, but the manual spec e90 cars have about 16% more power to the rear wheels which is pretty significant.

I just bought some carbon fiber paddles from Nelson racing wheels, I hate the paddles on my 09 335i, excited to finally have right click be shift up and left click be shift down.

It doesn't shift until 2 seconds after you click it, I can probably shift in a quarter of a second or less.. definitely not faster

Yo idk about you but you missed another argument for the auto over manual. I just bought a 2012 E92 335i, and I wanted it to be low mileage in really good condition. Finding that, with a manual gearbox, would've cost me at least 20% more than an auto. No way I could justify another $4000 just for a manual

I had a supercharged E46 M3 and I have a 330i automatic. The 330i has a shitty GM 5 speed auto, and I know it shifts faster and smoother than I could. I am looking into a F30 430i and I honestly want to get the 8 speed automatic. It shifts ridiculously fast. I will be daily driving it. The paddles are more than enough fun. Hawaii traffic is grange. Yeah manual is fun to drive, but that’s not to say you can enjoy driving an automatic. I still don’t understand the hate. Drive whatever you prefer. As long as it’s not a garbage ass Subaru CVT 😂

Manual car is tedious and stressful it’s fun when your young you wanna separate your self from other people saying your a real driver but nothing shift faster than an automatic even formula one cars started out as manual transmission and even they move away from that so .... automatic is more fun easy more relaxing and you can always choose to switch to tiptronic mode the only advantage I see manual transmission have is to kick start a car and I do like manual on a motorcycle.
