Around twelve years ago I was sat in the dentists waiting room in Mossley Hill Liverpool waiting for my appointment, when who should come down the stairs but Doddy himself!! (He didnt live too far away in Knotty Ash) WOW - I thought I was seeing things but it WAS the great man himself who had just been treated in the upstairs surgery. I was blown away but couldnt get a word in edge ways as he kept cracking gag after gag after gag. " Are you getting them took out or put in" he asked me! ha ha ha. A lovely lovely man and a privilege to have met him RIP Doddy

My mother died in January 1991 after a very long illness, she was bedridden and in a great deal of pain. On her last Christmas Day she sat up in bed in the evening to watch Ken Dodds programme, I will never forget that night, she laughed until tears ran down her face and she was totally exhausted, for a couple of hours she was transported to a happier place, it was wonderful and gave us all a smile at a very difficult time. Thanks Ken, you were amazing.

The man was an absolute legend. I saw him live at St Helens when he was in his 80s. He came on a 7.30pm and was cracking jokes all evening about how long the show would go on for. He eventually finished at 1.30am and he'd have still gone on for longer if he could have. I met him just 3 months before he died and he was still cracking jokes as if he just couldn't help himself. A marvellous man whose like we shall never see again.

KEN DODD understood one vital thing about comedy. It has to be something that makes the audience feel secure. He never used bad language or insulted people and his humour was appealing to all ages. It tapped into the human, childlike side of us, that wants to be tickled... hence the tickling stick. He was just MARVELLOUS and I am so grateful for the gift of true laughter he has given us. He will never really be gone from us..... he lives in his ability to make us cry with laughter. God bless him.

One of my dad's biggest wish was to meet his fellow Scouser Ken Dodd. He had been a life long fan. Dad was in his eighties, Ken came to the Theatre Royal in my home town Nottingham. I managed to get two tickets on an early booking. Having done some work at the Theatre, I had a chat with guys at the stage, and told them dad would love meet Ken if at all possible. They were wonderful - and allowed us both to wait at the stage door to speak to Ken when he arrived. When Ken arrived, he was introduced to dad greeting him as a long lost friend....a fellow Scouser!! Pop was in his element!! The pair of them were cracking jokes, and laughing over anything and everything! Ken eventually had to be dragged away as he needed to get ready for the show. He was simply brilliant to my dad and made a dream come true. The show lasted nearly three hours - we were still laughing as laid at the end, as we were at the beginning! Thanks Ken! You were one of the very very best! Dad passed away 2013 at the age of 93. I am sure they will have met up again, and found a lot to laugh about! Thanks for everything dad.....and thank you again Ken .... R.I.P brothers in laughter!

In 1963, when I was 5, Ken was doing a summer season in my home town of Gt Yarmouth. I was walking along Hall Quay with my mum when she spotted him coming out of a bank. She asked him if he had a signed photo and he said he didn’t. He asked if we knew anyone at the theatre and my mum said a near neighbour’s son worked as a stage hand. A couple of days later there was a knock at the door and the neighbours son handed a signed photo to my mum and said Mr Dodd asked me to give this to you.

And his live shows were legendary, went on & on & on & on, not a dry seat in the house! Professional? He ALWAYS started dead on time, but had to be thrown out gone midnight!! When he got done by the Inland Revenue, he told them he lived by the sea. And when the doctor found £1,900 up his backside, he said he wasn't feeling too grand. And NEVER a swear word. God up there must be begging for an intermission. RIP, the unique Ken Dodd.

@musiclover KiwiOkka he was 89 when I saw him. Did 3 hours with a 20 minute break. I wish I had seen him more often but at least I was privileged to have seen him that one time. R.I.P Sir Ken

Just before dementia took my mum we sat and watched this, I'd no idea of how much she loved this man until that night - I'd NEVER seen/heard her laugh as much as she did that night !. And to my surprise, I joined in !. Up until that night I'd always consudered him as a comedian of my parents time but not after this - he was quite simply brilliant and I'm eternally grateful for such a wonderful night he gave my mum and me !

KD is a one-off. Talented, witty, very quick on the uptake. A sheer joy and I'm glad I was around to enjoy his gifts.

Watching this in June 2022! It's so hard to believe this was 20 years ago, even harder to accept that Doddy and so many of his audience are no longer with us! I can't recall a day since my youth that Ken or members of his audience didn't make me laugh! One in a million in a woke world like today we will never see another of his kind! RIP Ken it's been a laugh as always.
