I take sim racing more seriously than my day job too

I have been in some lobbies with Verstappen, Norris, Barrichello and Kanaan. As a racing fan thats just awesome to have shared the track with these guys.

if the current f1 world champion talks like this about racing sims then everyone belittleing or laughing about simracing instantly loses credibility.

The cars aren’t real, the track isn’t real, but the racing is real. The emotions are real and for those of us who can’t get into real cars and do that, that’s a great substitute.

He was being pretty modest about the sim racer talent. He is by far, above and beyond anyone I've seen in my 8 years on iRacing.

Max Bathurst Q lap was one of the best Sim laps I have seen, pure magic

In this sense Max is a bit like oldskool F1 champions of 50s and 60s, when they would usually race multiple types of cars, multiple championships same year. Often having multiple races in single weekend.

all sim racers have huge respect for max to put us on the map. i have seen him on track. and he is so fast in iracing its insane

I have raced him in iracing. It’s such an honour to race against real drivers like him. It’s even fun to get my ass kicked because you think wow he is good lol

If you raced against "Jos Verstappen" in iRacing, that means you have also raced Max. He uses his fathers' name for his secondary account.

Its just so mindblowing to me that he pretty much has the same championship winning mentality in both F1 and sim racing. Bro really said he jumps out of the RB16B and texts his boys on discord like what💀 Thats some dedication right there.

It's good news for simracers that we have a WDC like Max. It will help people understand why we love it so much.

I like how he talks about challenging himself against others who he recognizes has more sim xp to improve himself. You learn more from playing against ppl that are better then you, rather than easily winning all the time.

Max is the ultimate Alpha benchmark in preparation, concentration and execution. Simply magnificent.

Seeing this clip after Max's start to the 2023 season, and the brilliant Q3 lap he had in Monaco speaks volumes to what this mindset has done. He talks about racing the different categories has helped him try new driving styles and improve his craft and its showing. He is consistently good this year and find time that others, even his teammate is not. Yes the RB19 is a powerhouse car and is ahead of the field, but he looks so in control and confident. More than he ever has.

As a sim racer this warms my heart .to hear him say he will practice for 40hrs for a 24hr race is awesome .he must also feel the same rage as me when all that practice goes out the window in the first lap from a massive dive bomb 😂😂

I reckon Max could win the Triple Crown if he dared to try. I can see him winning the Indy500. He’d pick up quick. 24 hrs Le Mans I can see him giving it a good crack. He’s got the time & talent.

This is why I’m excited for the new generation of F1 drivers, they work their arse off on the track and then go home and do it all again on the sim. Older generations didn’t have that so that’s why we’re seeing some great drives from Max, Lando etc… Obviously it’s not exactly the same but as the sims get more and more realistic, it just raises their skill more and more.

Sim racing more than any other genre of gaming requires transferable skills to be successful. Max is the ultimate proof of that. And there are many sim racers who have made the transition the other way. This is only the case if you use a wheel and rig setup. Max has probably done more for the sim racing community than any other driver. I hope him and Lewis have many more battles like they did in 2021.

Max is just a Unique character and says what he trinks and Stays behind it. Thats what modern Motorsport and sim Community Need. Great Max 💪🏼

If Max's sim team needs another driver to take over the role of looking like an idiot and taking longer than everyone else to get up to speed , just call me up buddy, I have taken those skills to another level.

I'm not a Max fan but I do value him and seem him as a very important and needed guy for the sim community. I don't race too much rather enjoy street or modified cars in simulators. I'm a 32yo Bus driver I was driving since very young age and when my drift car was beyond repair and due to lack of funds to fix it I've explored the sim world it was such a life changing moment to be able to drive cars which I probably will never own or I wouldn't be brave enough to drive them so hard. I'm not a too competitive person I just enjoy driving and sliding around corners

That is what dedication looks like. Simracing may not provide the realistic physical experience but it does provide a sense of readiness in different scenarios. A mental edge in some sense.

did also both IRL and Sim .. I say Sim and IRL is equal challenging in different dimensions and I learned so much in sim racing which also applies to IRL motorsports .. an awesome hobby where you can jump in everyday put in many drive hours which would be impossible IRL .. and great to share that passion with such great pros like Max, Lando, etc :)

I would love to see how the new top drivers like Max would compete against the top drivers from the past, like before the 2000s. It's easy to dismiss today's F1 drivers as youngsters who drive in easy to handle computer cars, but I actually think their devotion to the sport is in some way greater than what we saw before. They seem to be extremely technical and focused, compared to older F1 generations who relied more on their raw talent and instinct (and balls).

Even if I hoped that Ham would get the Record... gotta respect Ver for his passion and dedication. And this helps Simracing.

I love Max so much! A winner through and through.

There are people who love their craft so much that they want to become a world champion but when they do they become overconfident ,careless and stop working as hard as they used to which eventually results in someone else becoming the champion the next year but guys like Max they love their craft so so much that even when they are at the top and are unbeatable they are still working as hard but even more to improve themselves even further and their only competition is themselves.This is the reason he will remain undisputed for a long time.

It's always good to see Max or Lando racing with communities

Sim racing is as close as I will ever get to real life racing. Add VR and your inside the sim. Watching Max is a learning experience .

Sounds like the mindset me and my guild had back when I was mythic progress raiding in World of Warcraft. After every session we would go over the logs and see who could improve where etc.

I love the idea of completely cutting costs to race… think about pushing to limits and not burning into your wallet. It’s not the same sensations but it is a fantastic endorphin/serotonin rush to ride you over in between actual driving. Plus if you wreck, no big deal, that’s why you can push very hard in a sim.

It's crazy that he still enjoys sim racing so much despite driving the fastest cars on earth. I've always felt like I only spend my time with sims because I don't have a track nearby.

Ive found that in life there is no success without commitment. Job, relationship, anything. If youre not constantly telling yourself “I want to be better”, your results will always be limited.

If you are a F1 driver and your hobby is sim racing then of course it helps and it is an advantage i would say. I would say the competition is alot tougher in Sim racing because there so many people compete

In other words , "in real life there is no challenge but in the sim there is guys I can learn from "

since the entrance to sim racing from $$$ perspective is low it is crazy competitive, top guys are spending crazy amounts of time and are naturally very tallented. It is always more fun to watch SIM race, than any real race

I own my 2020 to sim racing, I live for that in the pandemic time, I even won a $1000 watch in sim racing, love that you can fell the same racing spirit in a simple Logitech or in a ultra pro setting driving by max, thanks for this video!

It's nice to see this level of commitment from him. Shame that 24h Le mans went badly.

He's got so much respect for simracers. He won the title last year and within hours was on iRacing.

One thing I always thought about is that in real life there is no lag input/output, minus like tire flex, while in any form of digital driving there is always some input/output lag that you then have to compensate for in the way you drive and react. I'm assuming that means in real life after getting used to sim racing you are hyper responsive compared to a regular driver, because you learned how to pick up a cars driving traits from a delayed perspective while sim racing. I'm assuming this helps be more on top of knowing what your car is doing than a regular driver.

This is a reason why he is so consistent. His concentration levels must be on another level due to this.

People talk about him taking too many risks but he explains it perfectly here. He learns the limits from sim and puts them on to the track

Not to take anything away from sim racers, but the reason they’re fast is because it’s a fearless race. I can drive my car on the edge, if I make a mistake the worst thing that could happen is I lose. I remember that video of the autonomous track car. I can’t remember what it was. But they had a real race car driver who if he felt the cars computer was out of control and would wreck the car he would take over. Anyway I remember him saying it was breaking way way later like he would never wait that long. It was fearless. In saying that at higher level I’m nowhere close. You have to drive with the thought of tire ware and fuel consumption. So it becomes much like real racing.

I kinda play a lot of sim racing probably like 2hrs a day and have never had anyone over to play on my setup, im pretty good I would say can eventually match any time that I go for, and end up at least top 5 if not top 3 in races, but a friend came over that I know is skilled in real life we have raced go karts etc etc, had around 30 laps of brands hatch and the moment I went on I was 10/13 seconds a lap quicker, it’s completely different driving sim to driving real life but there’s many things it can teach you mentally and maybe teach you to drive better. Ps: I improved my friends lap times by 45 seconds and in the end he did have an idea of what to do but just didn’t have that extra little bit to understand the physics of the sim racing.

This is great! And in opposite to this, Vettel says he has no time for sim racing, he is too old for this and he has kids... The funniest thing is that Vettels said was that Kubica should not go back to F1, to not take seats that could be taken by a young driver.
