Sims 4 Industrial Loft Kit is the newest kit to be released - but are these kits actually worth the $4.99? Or are they just a blatant cash grab by EA? Let's look at what they have to offer and I'll let you know how I feel about it. Plus, we'll see what my viewers had to say. Spoiler: It's not good!

This kit is a glaring reminder that we can't make our own apartments.

Right? The only thing that bothered me about apartments in Sims 4 was that we get shells and all we can really do it decorate them. Apartment Life was one of my fave expansions, I could never go to just filling a shell when I know how making an apartment from scratch feels.

@@BooDotBoo Apartment Life and Open for Business are those packs that they for some reason never bothered reintroducing in a really similar way. I don't understand why though. They were really popular. When I talked with someone about Sims 2 Open for Business she mentioned that even her mom played it, and it was the first time that I heard an adult playing the Sims (somebody who didn't even grow up with Sims because the game franchise wasn't old enough yet to foster a mom aged generation)

Honestly if they actually TRIED with kits, I would be able to get on board with them. But they're just lazy cash grabs. Bust the dust is just completely random and out of nowhere, Country Kitchen makes no sense now that we have Cottage Living, Throwback Fit and Industrial Loft are just things we keep getting over and over again. The only one that seems worth it to me is Courtyard Oasis because the items are beautiful and are a style we haven't had yet, there was obvious effort put into it. I'm just sick of getting the same content again and again. If I wanted an industrial loft, I should be able to make one in City Living which came out 6 years ago... Also don't get me wrong, I really like Industrial Loft. It's right up my ally, But we've had this style of furniture so many times I just want something new.

The problem with courtyard oasis is that you get a Moroccan style for your garden and then what? You can't make Moroccan or North African styled homes, because you just have gardens build/buy mode.

One thing that always bothered me a little are stuff packs that don't have at least one item in every category. Like if they're going to sell a set, I would hope that I could easily make a house using only that set. It's sad that the "each room is a different pack" challenge is so damn difficult 😅

I could be wrong but my theory is that the reason Sims 4 is such a rip off for so little is that console players don't have the option of using mods or CC. If the Sims was still just a PC game, they might have more competition because modders give us more for less (or nothing). The other reason we have so little is their fear of putting in anything thst could be controversial/triggering/adult. Such a shame we lost the detail and humour from previous games.

For me, it's just no. Sims 4 already has so many pack types that the main pack (expansion packs) don't ever seem full enough. Of course, that's also because Sims 4 suffers from a woeful lack of gameplay, but that's another topic. We have stuff packs, which were cool little additions and made sense. However, Sims 4 brought out game packs, which I really have never understood. They add little bits of gameplay, but why not add the gameplay into the expansion packs, so the expansion packs could feel more full? Gamepacks are a cash grab. Then, we got kits, which were, supposedly, a place to put the bits that they felt couldn't fit into other packs... um, why not? Maybe it's me and I've played Sims for too long, but in previous Sims games, if they "forgot" something or wanted to add onto something, they'd just add it in the next expansion, give it away in little FREE updates, or put it in a stuff pack. There was no need for all these extra packs. Now, we did have the Sims 3 store, which I really didn't mind. It was there to buy if and when you wanted something extra, but there were VARIOUS extra things and many times, they included worlds and gameplay items, so it wasn't just build/buy or CAS. With Sims 4 gamepacks and kits, I just don't see the need for them, especially when players are OFTEN pointing out that expansion packs don't last very long and get boring quickly... these extra buts need to be added into the expansion packs. This is why I hate how FOCUSED packs have to be with the Sims 4; they act like they can't add anything that doesn't specifically fit with the expansion pack or stuff pack into it... while we used to get a expansion like Cats and Dogs and had cars and new furniture and clothing and whatever that DID NOT NEED TO FIT THE CAT AND DOG THEME. It's like, what happened to that? This is why, even IF EA ever gets this game on track (which I highly doubt and don't have much hope for Sims5, either), I still wouldn't buy anything because the business practices of EA are just really shady; all they want is money, and I'm sick of hearing fans try to defend this or say they don't just want our money. EA is a business, do they think they're just making this game for fun? Are these people getting the game for free from EA? Because if you have to spend money, and Sims 4 games are INCREDIBLY overpriced, then as simmers, we deserve good, full games like we've been getting. Not all these new little ways to add things into the game. At this point, I'd be fine with a Sims store, but I know EA still wouldn't make good enough items, so it would be a waste. And they're so busy making all these little packs, that's probably why they can't get gameplay right. It's just weird because some of the teams are from old sim games, so I know they have to know how to make meaningful gameplay, I just... nothing about Sims feels right, anymore. I just stick with Sims 2 and 3.
@roxaroo
@roxaroo 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree. They obviously do this because "5 $ is not much" but if you want to buy each and everything for the Sims 4, you need to be rich (and stupid btw, sorry). This was already kind of a problem back with Sims 3, where you would spend more than 100 $ to get everything. I did not do the maths, but I would assume you spend 4-6 times this price for Sims 4 ... And last but not least; there is CUSTOM CONTENT that is free, or even if it's not entirely free, it is 100% worth its money!

I can see some similarities with objects from previous packs but I don't think they're copies. Now, personally I will never buy a kit no matter how promising they look, I don't agree with the idea, the only kit that was appealing to my play style was bust the dust because I thought it could enhance my gameplay, but oh boy, I was wrong. For what I've read the kit still doesn't work correctly and I hate dust bunnies as well; I'm so glad I didn't purchase it the day it came out. The problem I have is that there are so many talented CC creators out there that create beautiful build/buy objects in complete sets. The amount of detail they put into their work is utterly stunning, you can tell a lot of thought and hard work is put into them. I also like the industrial style, but the $4.99 price tag doesn’t entice me to purchase it when it feels incomplete. This would’ve been MUCH better as a complete stuff pack with more windows, doors and furniture with matching wood tones. Having just one window when the kit description states “oversized windows” is really a joke. I feel like they ran out of space/budget to give us all the items we want with this theme into a kit. I’m so grateful for CC creators who help fill the gaps that the sims team omits.

12:20 You should add an asterisk to the price of Sims 3 content. Remember that it was made to be used with the Create-A-Style tool. If you ever made CC for The Sims 3, you know it takes a long time to make content compatible with CASt. For example, the object has to be UV mapped in a way in which no areas overlap each other; then a multiplier has to be baked under certain lighting conditions to determine highlights and shadows; after that you have to do an RGBA mask, an overlay (for things that won't be CAStable, like a LED screen), a specular map, a normal map and stencils (some objects don't have stencils though). The final step is to create the presets, determine the size and scaling of the textures, set the materials and shaders, etc. It's not as easy it looks, and considerably harder than simply painting a diffuse map like TS2/TS4 do.

Recently I tryed to find out a price for one object in TS3 sets and in TS4 kits - the price is almost the same (depends on set/kit). The only difference is the number of items and how much you have to spend on it - kits contain half less content than sets and are half cheaper than sets (again, it depends on a set, but sets I looked into are like this). Conclusion? Kits are half priced TS3 sets with half of the content sets offer. Also I was looking on sets that have new animations and interactions, those sets would be worthy the price unlike kits

I think this kit is a nice change from the disappointment of the first three. With that being said, I still feel like every kit and a lot of the recent game/stuff packs have been very lackluster and almost insulting as a consumer and wasted opportunities. The Sims team should be using the packs/kits as they were conceptualized - as small ways to give niche players CAS/items/gameplay that makes the game more in-depth and unique for their style. Loft beds and a bucket hat don't do that! We need kits that fill in more of the game - like a kit for teen items with preppy/goth/nerd/skater swatches. Or a kit that offers Hobbie items like a small telescope and bug collecting. We could use a kit for historical items/clothes. A kit for legacy gameplay that has royal jewelry and titles. A kit for bands/instruments. A kit for more houseplants/aquariums. A kit for cars/a garage. A kit for more piercings/tattoos. A kit for wine/nectar/distilling. A kit for so many other things would be more fun and rewarding!

What really drew me to this pack was that the items would blend well with the existing base game industrial kitchen items and stuff. I really like the style. I also really don't think the beds or coffee tables look alike at all. They have a similar basic shape but the style is totally different and I would use the ones from this kit more, I guess my issue with this complaint is really how many shapes are there for canopy beds and coffee tables. They're very different in style to me, enough that I don't see the point people are making with it at all really. I have it in my game and I built a loft with it today and it sparked joy so I guess that made it worth it to me.

So happy to see you back Cindy! Your hair looks beautiful. Thank you for the review, I've been sitting on the fence about it, but naw..I probably won't feed this beast any longer. I'll be glad when sims 4 is behind us hopefully sims 5 will be much better.

The only kit i’m interested in is Bust The Dust actually. I love the idea of my sims cleaning and having chores. Similar to how the only Stuff Pack i want is Laundry Day. I think 4.99 is crazy though because Industrial Loft lowkey resembles some base game items. Kits in general are gonna be a miss if they’re gonna release stuff so similar to things we have already.

@@suzytalks4778 I agree wholeheartedly. it’s just weird how they did things, laundry day should’ve had much more cleaning stuff instead of just laundry. Kinda like a spring cleaning theme.

Great video Cindy. I agree the stuff in the pack is nice looking. Honestly though I like watching people play Sims 4 more than actually playing it for some reason…. It’s just too expensive of a game for me for what I feel I get out of it. And when there’s content available that is locked behind a paywall it always feels bad not buying it so it’s always like, ugh. Lol. And there always seems to be more and more to purchase in this game. So for my wallets sake I just don’t play it anymore. But that’s just me! I’m glad you’re back to making videos again!

Thanks so much for your videos! You also look absolutely beautiful! Also, I HATED dust the bust at first, with their updates I enjoy it so much more and it reminds me of like laundry from sims 3 where it was easier than four and like a nice little bonus chore

I was surprised but happy to see you review this Cindy :) hope you have had a refreshing time away and TS4 hasn’t dragged you down too much! I voted I never play TS4 in your poll because I physically can’t play it drives me crazy. They keep bringing out things for builders and to that i would argue, it’s meant to be a life simulator? if you’ve turned people off that cos it’s so shot you’ve done it wrong. seriously! i find it hard to articulate myself but this is so annoying to me. they’ve turned into a money sucking corporation with no care for their audience and ts4 players just let them take it and it makes me nuts. they’ll never learn as long as they get their cash.

In my opinion if I buy a game I want all the items, etc available in it already with no extra cost. If I need to get extra things I'd prefer for it to be an expansion pack release. It's not really about the money for me but about having to bother getting these extra things later. I want to pay once for a game or expansion pack that consists of a lot and be done with it lol.

Looking even lovelyer than usual, as if that's even possible😊 . I kinda regret buying Bust the Dust, the sims walk around like they are sniffing their own farts lol. I do like the vacuums though, so I just turn the rest off. As far as this kit goes I agree with you, there are some really cool items. I like to play with a gritty urban theme sometimes and this has some great items for that. Another wonderful video, Thank you!

If I’m being completely honest, there is potential with kits, it’s just with this one it seems like the Sims team didn’t care about the quality of it at all.

well, I'm not buying packs since long time now cuz no pack after Eco felt like I could use. guess last one will be any historical if they will make one. I've lost not even hope for anything interesting and well made but even interest in it. I wanted sims4 to be closed with all packs people wanted but after hearing they are about to milk people from money for upcoming 7 years I decided it is closed game for me. luckily, we have quite a few very creative and skilled modders ♥ love to see you again, you looks lovely, as always!

I love to use the well-made premade rooms. This is the first time I have seen one of your videos and I liked it. You now have one more sub. Are you from Oklahoma by any chance? You sound like you might be. I own every pack except for the vacuuming one. I am not interested in doing chores in real life so I am not going to be interested in doing them in a game that is supposed to be played for fun. I really like the Kits. I am anxiously anticipating the release of each one. I don't use CC because it seems to always cause a problem with my game. I would like to tell EA to keep the packs coming and just take my money for them as they come.

Funny how tastes differ. The bucket hats were the most tempting items in Throwback fit for me. I love having more hat options because I feel they go a long way in defining personality. I used to wear a similar hat myself in the 90s, so there is a nostalgia element too. I had almost the same evaluation process as you though, counting the items excluding the tops that show midriff (we already have a bunch I never use) and dividing $4.99 by that count to calculate what I'd be paying for each item I might actually use. I already have Fitness Stuff, and more often than not I find myself removing the athletic filter and just putting a sim in a t-shirt and sweatpants or shorts to work out in, that has always worked for me. I'm not out spending money on Nike or Under Armour or whatever. Also, I think the mod that applies sliders to hair and clothing expands your options more than new meshes will at this point.

I think the problem is they have taken elements from different items and smushed them together to make slightly different items. It's nice that you can kind of use it a bit more seamlessly together. But it just doesn't feel like it was well thought out like they Deligracy said. But it is so nice to see you back Cindy xx

Nope, it's gone for good. The video was taken down by KZfaq due to getting a copyright strike from Adobe Systems (why and what they could possibly have to do with TS1 is anyone's guess). Cindy mentioned this in one of her TS3 streams (can't remember which one) if you're wondering how the heck I know that.

My thing with the kits is that they could have easily been put into other game packs or expansion packs, even stuff packs to bulk them out. The packs are so empty that the kits would have added that extra something. Bust the bust in eco lifestyle, country kitchen in cottage living or seasons even cool kitchen stuff pack, throwback fit in fitness stuff, courtyard oasis doesn't really fit into any of the packs but it could have been put into any of the outdoorsy packs, and industrial loft could have been put in eco lifestyle, get together, dream home decorator or even tiny living (a loft being a small living space). None of the packs are full enough for me or thought out. Plus whenever any new pack comes out, you cannot play on the first day. They're just so broken. I still have open tickets with EA from day one of Get Famous and Island Living.

I use the premade rooms. I can't build at all and getting homes from the gallery is a pain because of MOO and over cluttering. I just kind of throw them on to the side of an already built house as I need them. My sims houses look terrible.😂

I've actually bought a lot of stuff from the Sims 3 Store - including a couple of style sets like the 'Steampunk' one and mostly the worlds (which are overpriced at $20, no doubt) -, but the point there was that a lot of that stuff usually was also available on its own. One of the things I've never regretted buying was the tablet they had (as that was a long time before everyone and their granny had tablets lying around) and it was almost a cheat - you could listen to podcasts for skills on it and do something else and you could even raise two different skills (say gardening from the tablet and athletics from a workout) at the same time. Personally, I've returned to TS3, because I like the gameplay there much more and, with NRAAS and a few tweaks to the .ini file (such as telling the game to use 4 GB instead of 2 GB of RAM), it runs well enough for me. I don't think I would have bought any of the kits (except for, perhaps, Bust the Dust if it had worked), because I'm not that much into CAS and Build/Buy and prefer new gameplay options. That is another reason why I have returned to TS3 which still has a real life simulation. After all, both Paralives and Little Sim World are still a long way from finished...

I think the kits are a good comparison to the Sims 3 Store and I care about the kits as much as I cared about the Store. They're releasing niche content, which wouldn't have fit into other packs in their opinion as kits and to me that's fine. If I see one kit I like, I'll probably buy it. If the released kits aren't for me and my style of playing then so be it. Some other players might have fun with those kits but nobody HAS TO buy them. They don't 'complete' your game like an expansion or game pack might do. And the kits aren't as expensive as the Store was (and to this day still is!). While I enjoy your reviews, Cindy, I don't need a review to every single kit especially when you know beforehand said newly released kit isn't for you. I'm still glad you're back and thank you for your insight on this kit.

I believe Country Kitchen Kit is the best value out of all of them and it's the only one I've gotten so far. (However, I do believe I'll get Industrial Loft Kit in the future once that second window is released.) Fifteen items for a total of around five dollars boils down to thirty-three cents an item. And when three of those items are kitchen cabinets this only amplifies the value as to make each one they need to make 5 to 7 different models. Everything in the kit is also reasonably priced in-game which makes the stove, at the very least, great for starter homes. Plus it's nice to have shabby-chic instead of just shabby for a change. To top it off the kit offers another sink, stove, and fridge which are all functional off the grid. And the colors somewhat work with the cabinets which came with Country Living. My only minor complaint is it would have been nice if both Country Kitchen and Living came with barstools that matched the counters. Because we can always use more of those right? I'm surprised you haven't gotten this one yet but looking forward to when you do review it.

In my opinion, kits are a pick and choose thing. If you don’t like it don’t buy it. If they’re gonna add small sets that don’t fit into bigger packs then that’s fine because everyone is gonna have preferences. One person may hate it while another loves it. I won’t buy it because it doesn’t fit in with how I play (Victorian), but overall it’s still a good pack

To be fair with Country Kitchen (and any kitchen set) it's not just an island, a counter, and a cabinet- since there are so many pieces the cabinet/counter/island set alone is like 15 items. Country Kitchen kit is the only one I have to far but I really love it and use it all the time and mix and match it with the Cottage Living set too. I don't think I'd ever buy a CAS pack unless it was for toddler/kids clothes IMO we have soooo many clothes already and for my decades challenge I just download CC. The morrocan pack I would never use the objects and build items and while I love the tile, it's very similar to CC I already have. Bust the dust? I'd rather just have the vacuums as decorative objects for my laundry rooms haha
