However, it is not legal federally so crossing certain state borders or flying with it could be illegal. The California House & Senate voted to decriminalize psilocybin (aka magic mushrooms). However, the Governor vetoed the bill earlier this month. However, some cities, like Oakland, CA decriminalized psilocybin & other natural psychedelic plants back in 2019. There are also religious exemptions for certain churches. With respect to crashing his car into a shrubbery on his driveway - that's private property & the vehicle wasn't stolen so no reason for the police to be involved. I'm certain he wouldn't press charges on his own parents either. Young people might be amused by older, inexperienced people accidentally taking drugs and having misadventures. The story was meant as entertainment...a real life experience that was funny... even though I'm pretty sure the totaling of the car and the crashing into his and his neighbors' greenery was definitely NOT funny, there was nothing illegal. I gave my mom some hash brownies a friend had made and WARNED her (my mom has never even been drunk once in her life) to be careful, that a tiny bit would be enough for sleep.
