I'm glad there are people and companies out there still trying to capture the magic of classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill!

If you told me this was an old unreleased Silent Hill game I would 100% believe it.

They painstakingly locked in the Silent Hill 2 look of the environment, text location/similar font, even down to the awkward cutscene camera angles to a deliciously obsessive degree that makes you feel like you're playing more of it. Maximum effort and it shows. Damnit, even the angles for key items and the item pickup sound is just a differently pitched version of SH2's item sounds.

She's dressed like a female James Sunderland. Wearing that inspiration on their sleeve. Love it.

the way that intro transitioned into the painting with the background music playing was perfect

Wow, this looks exactly like Silent Hill 2 or 3. The atmosphere, graphics, ambience, puzzles, angles, and gameplay! This was pretty interesting! It kinda creeped me out.

So I just watched the combat teaser for episode 2 and I must say, I'm excited. I'm loving the fact that Simulacrum doesn't look like a PS2 game, but rather how we REMEMBER the PS2 Silent Hill games looking. Theme could use a bit of toning down, maybe pull the piano into the background and carry the melody on a fender strat for that true old school SH2/3 vibe, but other than that, it's pretty spot on. I wish we saw more of this. I would love to see what could be done with this kind of camera work in an engine such as the REengine. TBH, I've mourned the loss of fixed camera angles over the past decade and a half. OTS camera works for some games (RE2R for example), but for the most part in games like Silent Hill, Eternal Darkness, Devil May Cry, etc., the fixed camera angles allowed for a much more directed experience. Good to see the indie scene keeping this style of horror game alive and well.

15:07 did anyone notice that shadow person run by followed by a musical screech…? It was subtle but JJ didn’t react to it… awesome eye for detail!!

Ok, seriously, the way they did those environments, high resolution 2D art, that beautiful flashlight cone and shadows, it's like looking at SH2 Enhanced Edition. I mean, they even left the textures just blurry enough to look like it's straight from the SH2 - 3 era. The only thing I'd have them fix is the kind of stiff walking animation. Looks a bit like she's sliding on the floor.

The game design was definitely inspired by Silent Hill.

15:45 specifically SH3 from what i saw of that game and I remember in a SH3 analysis the personality came through in the text on screen.

While I was not a fan of the character models I gotta say I am impressed for the most part. I'd like to see what the completed game would look like cause after looking at the website it seems like chapter 2 is barely coming along.

It's awesome to see you guys from RoE liked the Silent Hill series. Simulacrum is a nice sweet homage to the general style and idea SH games endorse (with bits and pieces from RE too). Abigail is totally a skirt-wearing James Sunderland though, hahahahah (I still don't know about her story as Simulacrum only has a single chapter so far. I believe there is more to come).

Who ever wrote the Lore is a very talented writer. Everything is excellent besides her face model.

This HAS to be running on SH2's game engine. It's identical. That's not a complaint being that, that's the one I've spent the most time in. The combination of RE's camera angles and sound effects makes this a survival horror's gamer's paradise as far as retro gaming goes. One thing I haven't heard anyone mention was the name itself - simila- crum. As in SIMILAR! That's a dead giveaway that, that's exactly what they had in mind. It a 'nod' to both of these game franchises from some big fans. Makes sense to me and I'm glad they made it. I'm going to check this out right now!

@Residence of Evil Color me intrigued & curious. I'd like to see more on the Simulacrum game from you. It is very Silent Hill except only one cutscene which is fair given the length of the video. Intro reminded me of Silent Hill 2's Born from a Wish opening a little. Entire video felt like an amalgamation of SH2 & SH3. Like the puzzles.

The map seems a little repetitive although the ambiance is perfect! As well as the ost. That "boss battle theme" was unsettling. Otherwise I miss those good 'ol fixed perspectives.
