Full DC-3 tutorial flight: • MSFS Douglas DC-3 / C-... | In case you're using the Duckworks DC-3 Improvement Mod by Imenes, which you definitely should when flying the Douglas DC-3 in MSFS, update 0.1.8 introduced new, more realistic engine start procedures. I will show you those in this quick video, including the checklists as a reference. And as a bonus, my landing in Salzburg, Austria (LOWS).

something does not seem quite right to me - but I might get corrected. The starter sounds like the one on an Antonov-2, a flywheel. I have never heard this on DC-3's, neither outside nor inside. What they have done is model an inertial starter instead of a regular starter motor that is used in all other big props, too.

Nice landing, I struggle with this AC, seems the trim goes haywire on TO and can't control the AC on ground during landings even with the tail wheel locked, at least in the FS2020 original version.

Thanks! Yes indeed, MSFS aircraft can be a handful to control. I recommend the Duckworks mod that might improve things.

@@SimulationChannelDeluxe Ok, I installed the mod and went through the checklists to start and am ready to taxi but can't get the wheel chocks off lol. They aren't part of any checklist and I don't have a radio option to contact ground services, maybe because I am at an uncontrolled airport. Any idea how to remove the darn things? They don't go away when I release parking brake.

@@johnf6545 They might be part of a new mod update. I didn't fly in MSFS for months so I can't help there sorry. Maybe have a look at the mod's changelog, there are many useful hints and tips.

@@SimulationChannelDeluxe I had the secure AC switch on, thought it was to close and lock doors, didn't realize it was to install the wheel chocks, all good now thanks!

i'm stuck on clicking the "engine primer". i don't have an up arrow when hovering over it, it's just a mouse finger, and when I click nothing happens. any idea? UPDATE: i had to click and hold on the switch and there is no 'up' arrow it's just a finger. so things look and behave a little different now

Good you got it sorted. Indeed with every update of the mod, operations might change. I didn't touch MSFS for some months so I couldn't help you there.

What is "hydraulic flow selector FWD/AFT" in your checklist?

It's the big blue handle to the right of the pilot seat. In the cockpit it's labeled "Engine Pump Selector". In flight it goes forward to power the Sperry Gyropilot.

@@SimulationChannelDeluxe Seems weird that the gyro pilot would be hydraulically powered or is the hydraulic power for the servos that go to the control surfaces?

@@twistedyogert Yes I think it's needed to power the control surface inputs.

The cowl flaps and the props start in the open position for me when I load into the plane cold/dark. Did Duckworks change this recently or is there something wrong with my mod installation?

AFAIK the gills (cowl flaps) are open for engine start. See the original checklist. This goes for all Propliners.

I wish I could see your rudder inputs after touchdown. Both Vanilla and Duckworks versions I struggle with keeping the DC3 straight while trying to slow down.

@@belevezero2279 It helps to greatly reduce the yaw sensitivity in the Control Options. Btw, I only have the twist-grip of the joystick for rudder and it works reasonably well :) Regarding the checklist, I created those myself and they're not publicly available yet. I'm thinking about posting them on flightsim.to. Cheers

@@belevezero2279 Had the same issue. You need to lock the tail wheel by pressing Shift+G. Once < 40 knts, press Shift+G to unlock so that you can taxi!! Love the Dc-3!!
