In this control theory and control engineering tutorial, we explain how to model and simulate feedback control systems in Simulink and MATLAB. We explain how to design a feedback control algorithm that combines the pole placement method with integral control action to eliminate the steady-state error. As a test case, we are using a mass-spring damper system. We provide a detailed explanation on how to construct a Simulink model of the feedback control system and how to simulate such a model.
