As part of the ongoing celebration of stop motion master Ray Harryhausen's 90th birthday, I did this promo for Stop Motion Magazine's special Harryhausen issue. The issue has been delayed while the editor got clearance for some of the images, but should be out soon. Check at www.stopmotionmagazine.com .
This is a recreation, with variations, of the famous skeleton swordfight scene from the 7th Voyage of Sinbad, which I first saw in 1958. (See also my birthday tribute "walking the Walk" for an idea of the impact that film had on me!) I managed to get the dragon and Cyclops to make guest appearances as well. The Cyclops puppet was formerly the 2-eyed Lioclops, but underwent some plastic surgery for this appearance.
Of course, in my version they are all puppets on miniature sets, so I called on composer Brett McCoy to put back some of the scale and drama my version seemed to be missing. It's all original, but I suspect him of channelling the ghost of Bernard Herrmann...
Elsewhere on my channel there is a video showing how the cave set was made, and another showing the making of the dragon head.
