Yeah, Sinclair was great, definitely one of my favourite B5 characters and I missed once he left at the end of S1, while Bruce Boxleitner was great as captain Sheridan I still preferred commander Sinclair.

@@nicholasmaude6906 You put people into a secure psychiatric facility only if they are dangerous to themselves or others. According to JMS in his book, his behavior was inappropriate, but he was not dangerous enough to get him under involuntary observation in a psychiatric unit. Because of that, he had to get convinced by him during his lucid periods that something is seriously wrong with him, as people with such severe mental illness lack insight of the fact that they are ill. It took a long time to make him stable enough for WWE and figure out meds that helped to an extent, but he never got 100%. He more than likely ended up institutionalized for the last several years of his life; it's not stated openly, just hinted. But his old personality got completely destroyed by the time of his death and he was so paranoid that talked mainly to his parents only. He passed away in a mental illness halfway home.

Was Jerry Doyle aware that Michael O'Hare was suffering from serious psychiatric problems.

@@nicholasmaude6906 No idea. Probably he wouldn't have been as aware of what was going on as JMS, but I'm sure he would have been aware of what any observer would have noticed watching O'Hare's behavior.

@@Hibernicus1968At the time NO he was not. JMS promised O'Hare that he wouldn't speak of it to the cast. It was Only after O'Hare's death that Doyle became aware of it. No idea how Jerry took the news. If he spoke of it after the fact I haven't seen record of it. I'd like to think given his own struggles later in life that he did come to understand.

I have no doubt of that. That does not fucking mean Doyle could not see he was dealing with a person having mental health problems. Have you ever had to deal with crazy people? Because I have, for the past 23 years. And while I may not be a trained psychologist competent to diagnose their specific mental disorder, _I can still tell they're fucking crazy._

Perhaps, but O'Hare was hanging on by his fingertips, as regards his mental illness at the time. Even JMS said that.

Well, he was severely ill. As someone who had a family member with paranoid schizophrenia, I think both sides are telling the truth - a schizophrenic can have very unpredictable behavior, and may turn nasty from time to time. When the symptoms are not obvious or severe, they get back to their normal - usually nice but shy-ish - persona -, but when they have their psychotic phases, they can do things out of their normal character and may not even remember it, or cannot explain why they acted as they did. It's a horrible illness, fetches the person before the body dies, and does it usually when the person is young yet. The rapid blinking you can see on this video and also on some others is actually common among those with schizophrenia and taking antipsychotics. When you know the symptoms and some characteristics of the illness, you can see them on O'Hare in some episodes. (And once you see, you can't unsee. I think he depicted a troubled person very well - because he actually was a troubled person.)
