Lyrics:
I'm dancing the seven veils
Want you to pick up my scarf
See how the black moon fades
Soon I can give you my heart
I don't know no shame
I feel no pain
I can't see the flame
But I do know Man-din-ka
I do know Man-din-ka
I do know Man-din-ka
I do
They're throwing it all this way
Dragging it back to the start
And they say, "See how the glass is raised?"
I have refused to take part
I told them "drink something new"
Please let me pull something through
I don't know no shame
I feel no pain
I can't
I don't know no shame
I feel no pain
I can't see the flame
But I do know Man-din-ka
I do know Man-din-ka
I do know Man-din-ka
I do
I do
I do
I say I do
Soon I can give you my heart
I swear I do
Soon I can give you my heart
I do
Mandinka
Soon I can give you my heart
Soon I can give you my heart

I went to catholic school my whole time as a kid and totally got it even back then. My 5th grade teacher, a former nun abused the boys in my class. People back then said bullshit. She (Sinéad) NAILED it. It's messed up, it should've never come to that. Predators need to be outed.

I am all broken up, Sinead. I am 50 years old and I heard this song when I was only 14. It changed my life. You were a HUGE influence on the trajectory I chose to go: That of a bold, outspoken woman, and I, too, have been crucified for it. I am an Indigenous Rights Activist for 36 years and walked across the country until my feet bled into the ground for the American Indian Movement on the Walk Across America in 1992 and then was a National Bernie Sanders Delegate against Donald Trump, and got crucified for being outspoken in America, so I moved to Canada. I know you felt alone and broken and nobody was telling you they loved you. I know that you even went on Dr. Phil b/c you were in crisis and I knew what was in your heart the whole time. You were angel who blessed us all and gave us so much...I will never forget you and I I will NEVER forget the influence you had on me as a teenager. This is the song that introduced me to your deeply soulful voice and that changed me as a teenager who grew up in a troubled home and alcoholic home. YOUR SONGS CAME THROUGH ON MY WALKMAN AND ENCOURAGED ME TO LIVE AND SURVIVE ANOTHER DAY. I am broken up that you have passed. My mother died at same age: 56. This will also haunt me forever. The world, as always, especially America, will tell you how much they loved you after the fact. I am grieving hard, for the empath and sensitive, loving and deeply bold and outspoken women you were and for all of the people who put you through hell and they will all come back and regret that you are gone, but they did not tell you in this life how much they loved you. You were so ICONIC in the late eighties when you came out: LION AND THE COBRA! I will never forget when my friend Wendy introduced me to that album. NOTHING COULD EVER COMPARE TO YOU, SINEAD! NOTHING! You are absolutely incredible and were so beautiful. WELL BEHAVED WOMEN RARELY MAKE HISTORY AND YOU, MY FRIEND, WILL GO DOWN AS THE BEST, A LEGEND. THIS INDIGENOUS WARRIOR WOMAN HERE IS CRYING, WISHING YOU WERE BACK, BUT I WILL SEE YOU UP THERE, IN THE CELESTIAL REALMS. I LOVE YOU, R.

I'm not IRISH... But, this "Swedish" "Nordic" & "German" bloodline today... Would be and have acted PROUD Irish.. Four Green Fields.. New England.. Boston and Somerville BAAAAHs.. lol. IF you want to be some Catholic A-hole and hate Sinead.. Well, that is short sidedness.. Oh, I played this more than once (asked or plugged in) in a couple of places... Some LOVED her.. Some, yeah, well.. Fawk Em... Even the 3 digit old timers loved her voice.. Glad I made it out alive.. My long winded version with frag background. She doesn't only have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard sing in my life.. She has something to effin SAY.. Not just with words either.. I'd be sad if I gave a flip about everyone's interpretation and understanding of what they are hearing or seeing.. No offense to you Peter at all.. Religion generally isn't something I care to chat about.. However, regardless of anyone's believes... Her tearing up the picture of the pope I truly to this day don't believe for a single second she did that for promotional purposes.. No, it was outrage for those who had / have / will be abused.. It's in her every pour, not to mention soul.. If you saw her live.. That must have just been incredible..

Mandinka was the first song I heard by Sinead and I liked it immediately. She was only 20 and produced the song herself. She impressed me with her style, which was unique at a time when almost every female singer at the time was styled by record companies. She stood strong for herself. In the end, I think her upbringing, the death of her young son, her illness took its toll. I pray that her remaining children will be okay despite the things that have happened to them especially in the last few years. I hope that the next generations can do better than before.

It was hard to understand back then what issues she was passionate about. Speaking for myself. She was demonstrative but without explanation and at least in Southern US there was no radio or tv coverage of her issues. And pre internet. It was hard to understand that she wasn’t crazy. Prince outbursts didn’t help. I bought all her records though. Loved her passion and voice in music. But she lost gigs so it was hard to see her. In this Information Age we now are in her fate might have been better because we’d understand her passion better.

On a vacation trip from San Antonio, Texas to Paris then Ireland I tried putting music on my Kindle. In Killarney at a lush, countryside stay at an Air BnB with zero internet connection I was able to put "The Lion and the Cobra" on my playlist. Fast forward to Dublin I went to Carroll's downtown as I was searching for souvenirs to take back home. "Mandinka" was playing over the store's stereo. I was like "Eff yeah!" When I got to Washington, DC on the connecting flight back home my girl showed me her phone. I saw the news that she passed away a few hours before. Listening to her music again made me understand why the world loved her and Ireland. I will always carry my stay there with me until I die.

Why is it the artists that speak the truth through their music are the ones that get persecuted the most? Probably because they are not conformists and Sinead was a truth-teller. Bless her xxx

RIP Sinead. You were so right about so many things, About the Church. About the toxic culture of "celebrity". We should have been better. We should have listened.

99.9% of the people waxing lyrical about Sinead over the last week or so have never heard any of her songs other than Nothing Compares 2 U. Which was a cover🤷‍♂️ "I dooooo, like this song"

Sinead is 21 appearing in Mandinka from 1988. Beautiful, girlie face. She's young. Bald head kind of suited her. Some years later she grew her hair and was Beautiful too. Powerful , brilliant voice. She suffered though in her childhood and as an adult, her demon bitch mother locked her in an outside shed for hours over a long period as a child. What diabolical cruelty. The mother was a monster. No wonder many people develop mental health problems because of traumatic childhoods. RIP Sinead. Always will be missed and loved.

The Lion and the Cobra really stunned me. Brilliant debut album... She was undoubtedly talented, singer, musician, song writer... But she was also incredibly outspoken and didn't have a lot of allies after speaking out on a number of issues like the Catholic Church. She's had a very challenging career due to her refusal to compromise or stop being outspoken. I don't think you can separate her from that part of her spirit though; it made her who she was after all. I hope she is doing well - luckily, Sinead will always exist through her music.

R.I.P Sinead . You stood up to what was going on in the Catholic church 30 years ago, and was slated for it. And you knew you would be and still done it. You thought protecting the kids was more important than your career. What a soul you were . Hope you are at peace now.🙏

Revolutionary. I saw this on MTV when it came out late one night and I'd never heard or seen anything like it. "I told them play something new" she sang with that stainless steel Telecaster and a riff from the stars. She was just great.
