www.TheSingingZone.com - How do you sing high notes? Want to sing high pitched rock songs a la Bon Jovi, Skid Row, etc.? What's the difference between falsetto and head voice? Los Angeles vocal coach Per Bristow - creator of the world's most popular voice training program - the Sing With Freedom/ The Singing Zone program - demonstrates the common trap rock singers fall into when singing in the high range.
For more info on how to expand your vocal range and sing high notes with passion and freedom, watch the free video at www.TheSingingZone.com

I think the hardest part about singing (besides that it already seems pretty difficult to explain) is that for every rule of what you should do and what you shouldn't do, there is someone else with an amazing voice telling you to do the exact opposite. This video seems to be pretty good (the guy can totally sing). but learning is super frustrating when you have five people telling you a different answer to what 2+2 equals and you haven't ever done math before and that they cant really explain how they got their answer. "The answer is 4 because you can kind of feel it down here and it flips at the top.. and that means the answer is 4." And I'm like.. ok... sure.. I don't know if I'm even feeling the same thing you are describing or how to get to that feeling or maybe I am, but that's not how I would describe it. Its just too damn ambiguous and then people argue if its even correct or not.

Rock singers use head voice, which is in between chest and falsetto. It’s not about strength; it’s about coordination and pacing yourself. The trick is to make a smooth transition between registers. But even rock singers tend to miss this. That’s why so many of them have to cancel shows due to vocal issues.

He is singing in his passaggio. AKA Mixed voice. He blends the registers together by bringing the falsetto register down to lower notes and by bringing the chest voice up into falsetto notes. He is singing in a part of his range where the chest voice is still accessible. it is not so high that he is only able to use falsetto because his chest voice doesn't reach that high. The result sounds like chest voice (rich) but is quieter and not strained. Bridging the passaggio doesnt happen over night.

This advice is right on. I used this and a couple other techniques to learn to sing Chris Cornell songs (for karaoke), but I think one thing he missed was how important warming up is. It opens the door to your range and comfort.

I've had a lot of problem developing my voice, and this is hands down the best teacher i've tried. It gives you so much more control over your voice if you don't belt so hard. It's all about the amount of work you have to do that will determine how long your voice will last. Pretty obvious stuff, but many ignores this fact.

as i grew older i realized the same thing,u dont scream ur balls out,u sing as softly as u can n that helps in recording really well n also if you practise with microphone n headphns,u will be lot better cos u will be able to hear all the flaws in ur vocal n correct them, specially with condenser mics.

That makes sense, I saw the lead singer from Foreigner on a chat show once, he sat at a piano and when he sang instead of belting out the song as I imagined he would he sat there and it just came out of him with such force that the host said, that's my problem, I am not singing with enough power. Clearly he had impeccable muscle control.

I've been screaming my lungs out to reach notes between F#4 and A#4 cause otherwise I just can't hit them, but this is exactly what I needed. You know sometimes I find myself hitting those notes effortlesly but with VEEERY low volume, maybe with practice I can match it up with the distorted screaming lol

Nice Hint! I'm desperately trying to hit highs with power and I'll definitely give it a try. I'm more into screaming but it's the same there: You can scream at comparably low volumes. It actually sounds to me like that high pitch singing with some grit presented here is closely related to fry singing / screaming if you'd put on more pressure on the diaphragm and let the tone stand back a little bit more.

When you go for it you sound like Chris Cornell. Awesome stuff dude. Has made me feel like it's possible as I can find that soft mix but can't find the umph behind it yet. If it's just a matter of building muscle up then I'll keep at it. I've been thinking I was missing a bit :/

'Head voice' is similar to falsetto range. and more intense, but different from chest voice. Falsetto is 'Bridge Over Troubled Water,' a soft breathy quality. Head voice is "Run To The Hills" in the chorus.
