Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and Thailand have joined forces to nominate traditional kebaya garments for inclusion in the United Nation’s prestigious list of intangible cultural heritage. Women in the region usually only wear kebaya blouses at formal occasions such as weddings. But in recent years, the centuries-old clothing which features intricately embroidered designs has been making a steady comeback for wearing in daily life.

@@qizan8065 Masalahnya gak selalu demikian.

@@shamshulanuar7718 Historians in Indonesia who had specialities on reading Candi reliefs knows exactly that the first picture of women wearing kebaya has been engraved from the relief crafted on a shrine built around late-Majapahit era a.k.a the transition era from the final days of Hindu-Buddhist kingdom era in Nusantara to the early days of the Islamic kingdom era in Nusantara as the standard attire for women from nobilties and merchant class. Its amazing, that only Chinese ethnic who preserved the Kebayas in Singapore and Malaysia (the peranakan). The Malays doesnt even wear it anymore, only baju kurung and hijab. I think because Kebaya is quite "revealing" dress and it does not fit the Islamic values. Meanwhile, In Indonesia, since its secular nation and many people there still respect their past Hindu-Buddhist cultures, they modified Kebaya in to more Islamic friendly dress. In USA, I noticed, its the Indonesian Chinese ladies who wear it in many traditional and public events, they called these ladies as "Nyonya Kebaya". While, Many argue where was Kebaya origin (China or Java/Indonesia or Arab Abaya), I think Kebaya is very close to Indochina attires. And when I lived in the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand, it was Chinese Peranakan who preserved all the Nusantara cultures, foods, restaurants, traditional attires and music, they distinguished themselves from Chinese Mainland, hong kong or Taiwan. Go check it, Majority of Indonesian/Malays restaurants Netherlands, USA, Australia and New Zealand are owned by Chinese Peranakan. The native Indonesian/Malays didnt even wanted to be associated with these cultures anymore in abroad, they are more into arabic style/cultures except Balinese.

I suggest for you to google search on Kebaya in Malaysia because it will interest you when you know that there is a wide range of Kebaya types and the wearer varies from all races including ppl from Sabah and Srawak. This type of Kebaya esp (we called it Kebaya Nyonya is still widely worn by the Sarawakian and the Baba Nyonya (Peranakan).Even the Malays too.

That is kind of irrelevant to the video as the UNESCO list is about cultural traditions which can range from things similar to this example (clothing traditions) like tatreez, to things like cultural rug weavings, to holidays like nowruz, to abilities/hobbies like falconry, to even things like Mediterranean eating habits, etc. It is a diverse list that includes most countries that are not settler states (like Australia). It is also not a competition. I really do not know what your comment is trying to prove.
