Max's start wasn't bad at all, it was quite good compared to the whole field. Vettel came off worse than Verstappen. Ricciardo was the slowest of all and Kimi's was just perfect, probably the best start of all on the grid which shows us that there's still fire in him but he's so unlucky :(

I will never understand how there are people that blame Max for this. In my opinion it is a racing incident. Vettel perhaps squeezed too much, but I honestly think that he didn't see where Kimi was. Max had nowhere to go, and slamming on the brakes is as risky as holding a line. Unfortunate for all involved =(, including us fans.

man, unintentionally is also wrong, but in my view it was totally intentional, so much so that he squeezed clearly thinking that the verstappen was going to slow down, which was not the case.
@SavikujaTero
@SavikujaTero 11 ай бұрын
It was totally Vettel's mistake and a bad one. You cannot say that he did not see Kimi. He driver to the left and not even try tp leave room there. Verstappen and Kimi were already next to him but he did not care/watch and a driver needs to make sure if someone is there. That is most likely Vettel's worst mistake by taking out 3 cars but if I remember right, he did not get any penalty. If someone did that this years (2023), grid penalty 100% at least and maybe something else.

At the end of the day you can say, that it was a racing incident. It was a really unfortunate situation. Vettel was the one who started it, but the thing is that he wasn't able to see Kimi. So it was not a move with the purpose of sandwiching Verstappen.
@danielo7985
@danielo7985 7 жыл бұрын
Here is my verdict on the accident in what has been a crazy Singapore gp. Vettel got a bad start when compared to max and max had a medicore start when compares to kimi. Sebastian seeing that max is closing on him does his trademark, micheal Schumacher esque, pit wall squeeze. At this point kimi, as he had the best start of everybody, is pretty much alongside max and is up against the edge of the track. He can only see max and is oblivious to vettle squeezing the pair of them. Max is in the middle of the track so he can see both Sebastian and kimi and knows he is about to get pincered so he tries to back off (check the telemetry) but as the rear tyres are bigger than the fronts max was screwed, the rest is history. IMO it is vettel's fault he took a big risk squeezing max and he hoped nobody was on max's inside but kimi was there. It is cause and effect if vettel did not squeeze no accident would have happened. Also, rip Alonso he could have been in second. Hamilton had a beast of a start in second gear. Now, if there aren't any more mechanical failures Lewis has won this championship. The 28 point lead covers the 14 points lewis could lose at the tracks mercedes are not strong at ie Mexico, Abu dhabi

Kimi's start would have been great if Seb had seen him coming. Seb's move would have been legit if Kimi wasn't already alongside Max. Max just found himself between the Ferraris' tires before he could react. Even though none of them acted wrong in any way, I still think Vettel's aggressive way to defend his position is the source of the crash. There's nothing Kimi and Max could have done to avoid this. It just wouldn't have happened if Seb kept his line and conceeded his position to Max, and afterwards to Kimi, since he would have got the advantage on both Seb and Max in the 1st corner.

@grimm6jack 2 жыл бұрын
No pole sitter in SIngapore is going to allow the drivers behind to get ahead of them on T1. The Red Buill was a fast car on that weekend, and Vettel needed to win the race to stay in the championship race and for that he needed to secure P1 after T1 because Singapore is almost like Monaco, incredibly hard to overtake and track position is everything. Yes, Vettel started it all, but that's just natural as he is the driver in front and the pole sitter. Vettel had no way of knowing Kimi was going to have that ridiculous start (the only time Kimi that year had a great start).

It's amazing to see how, on slippery and unpredictable conditions, Alonso always breaks the latest and turns in the latest and still gets away with it 99% of the time. He would have got away with it this time as well, if he hadn't been collected. I get the impression that he knew the risk was high (he could see there were cars out of control to his left), and still went for it because he didn't really care about finishing 7th or 8th. Which kind of sums up the guy. You have to admire him for his skill and his determination, but he can't help himself with his attitude and his big mouth. McLaren really needed to score those points, they can still make a difference in the constructors', but he preferred to go after the big result that he so desperately wants, instead of playing it safe. And yet, I would still pick him and his attitude any day of the week over some veteran who clearly is just racing for the big money... I guess I can't decide if I love or I hate the guy, can I?

VET and RAI didn't know where each other was, and VET did the typical singapore squeeze done by anyone (google any singapore race start, like 2010), VER saw VET coming and slightly move over and then maintained a straight line, while RAI never changed direction, he assumed VER would give him the space considering its a left turn, and they continued in the same direction until they contacted. Racing incident.
@RanjitGodbole

Kimi was way faster than Vettel and Max. Even if Max would've avoided by braking a bit, Vettel would be brushing on Kimi's wheels. It looked as if Vettel was aware that he's not gonna make it to the first corner. The blocking move was a bit too soon.

It's easy right now to say "he should have done that" but when in his mind it was "if I don't win here the title is gone" then you can understand why his first reaction after a bad start was to immediately take the inside. It was an extremely unfortunate chain of events that none of the drivers could have predicted in time.

Vettel starts off in 2nd gear to avoid wheel spin due to traction loss(so-so start). Max and Kimi start of in 1st.Vettel swerved left-->Max (eyes on Vettel) shadows Vettel--> Kimi monster start trying to overtake Max while setting up for the first turn so veers right clipping his right rear tyre on Max's left front tyre-->Vettel and Max moving left Kimi moving right for setup to turn one....sandwich Max in the middle-->Max lifts after contact from Kimi...Mayhem/Chaos/game over man!!! game over!

I've seen this footage about 50 times today. Everyone's saying RAI is keeping a straight line, but he isn't. He has a great start going in 1st gear as long as possible, then gets a kick from the engine when engaging 2nd gear. He corrects that. Next, from the moment he engages 3rd gear onwards, he is steering to the right, engages 4th, keeps moving to the right and then boom, he off-screen engages VER's front left wheel with his own right rear wheel. Why does RAI keep steering to the right while VER has made a clearly visible defensive move to the left. Because, IMHO, RAI is not contemplating VER's position at all when he gets alongside the Red Bull, but has set his mind already, only a little too soon, to leading team mate VET out of the approaching T1. RAI is not racing a straight line, he's moving to the right over quite a distance. It's ever so slight, it's just 2 or 3 degrees, but it's there from 3rd gear until collision when RAI is in 4th gear. VER's defense to the left doesn't seem to appear on RAI's scope that much, he seems to be having VET on his mind exclusively.

Well the first contact was between Max and Kimi, it took rear right wheel off of Kimi's car rendering it uncontrollable. Granted Vettel was moving across rapidly but so was pole sitter in almost every race this year. As Max took his foot down from the accelerator pedal he caught Kimi's wheel as Kimi kept accelerating, the left front wheel of Maxe's car was in the tracks of Kimi's rear right wheel, collision was imminent. Pause the video at 0:49, you can see Vettel's already in front of Max when they are about the crash. Unfortunate sequence of events, none of them is to blame.

Vettel did what he’s allowed to do and pulled to the inside to defend against Max. Kimi had a great start and was on the inside of Max and Seb just couldn’t see Kimi coming on the inside. If you have ever played an F1 game, you’d know how small these mirrors are. Though Kimi had at least half a meter to spare on the inside before hitting the slippery yellow paint. With the experience Kimi has in a variety of different cars and race series he should be able to use that half a meter. Seb was the one to cause it, Kimi was the one who could’ve avoided it. Max and Nando were just part of the chain reaction.

*Reikonnen caused the crash, not Vettel, but considering how dirty Ferrari is, I am 100% sure he was instructed to squeeze Ver from the inside, Reikkonens docile reaction said it all, normally he would be frustrated screaming, but he acted as if that was exactly what he anticipated, the only thing that went wrong is Kimi crashing into Seb, but squeezing Ver was 100% on purpose, he was the only one out of 3 drivers who knew where everyone else was, maybe this was the condition why he got signed up for another year.*

This is how i see it: -Max didn't see kimi, he was focused to get ahead of Vettel. -Vettel as a race leader, is obviously going to the left to take the racing line, so he could protect the lead. -Kimi just had a really nice start compared to both of them, he decided to get that left gap. -Max, was going to the left to avoid crashing in to Vettel, but once he noticed Kimi, he took a bit of a right, (You can clearly see Max's steering wheel movement). -Max was late at that point. he couldnt do nothing about it. Kimi shouldn't have done that overtake, knowing Vettel that in all races that he get's pole, allways follows the racing line. Bad call from both ferrari's, we cant blame anyone really, only Kimi for going too fast i guess. And talking about Hamilton, yes he had luck. not going to say he is a bad driver, because he isn't, and this comes from a Ferrari enthusiast. With a bad car for Singapore, still pulls a win (Hat off to him). Ricciardo just had problems with the car as far as i know. So i dont understand the "fanboy" comments of "Penalty for that or the other one" imo, no one at blame here. Vettel still has a chance to get the DC, still 6 races to go, everything can happen in racing.

Otherwise ok, but he was half of the track width left from the racing line, so he wasn't trying to follow the racing line. Ricciardo and Hamilton are on going on the racing line when the collision happens. Just overly aggressive by Vettel and it did probably end his hopes on getting the WDC.
@TheOnlyxDesertEagle

@Dylan Mendes He shouldnt in this scenario. yes. Himself knowing where Vettel was on the race, also knowing he would do anything to protect his place, and how much he needed it, and going for a tight gap afterwards? Think about it. It would definitely be avoidable. Let's be reallistic here: he is one of the most experienced drivers on the grid. Sure that he isnt the 1st driver for the team, and why would he jeorpadise his team mate's chances of winning something that is also of the team's interests? Doing this for what? He is on a last breath for his career imo. he doesn't have to show he is the best out there. Only needs to show how wise he is on track with all of his experience.

Both ferrari's are afraid of what max can do in the wet. Keep this in mind. What happens is obvious, vettel tries to block verstappens line by going to the left. Kimi MUST go right to be able to make the corner (normaly when side by side vertappen could move right to allow space). Vettel could not have seen kimi and therefore thought it would be wise to block verstappen. Kimi never had a choice other than goin right. Because he wouldn't be able to make the turn from that line
