Anglicanism is Protestant. Its founding document is the 39 Articles which clearly denies fundamental Catholic doctrine. It is headed by the British monarch who takes an explicitly Protestant oath at the coronation. And anyway, Anglicanism is totally rejected by the Roman Catholic Church which rejects its legitimacy and the validity of its orders. A few cathedrals and vestments doesn't make it Catholic. I can fry a hamburger in a baseball cap but my flat isn't McDonald's.

Wrong. The reason why it is called the "Anglican Communion" and not the "Anglican Church" is because Anglicans believe there is only one Church - the Catholic Church. This Catholic Church is affirmed in the Creed which Anglicans recite every Sunday. The term "Roman Cathoilc Church" is a heretical oxymoron, since a Church cannot be "Roman" and "Catholic" at the same time.

1. The Church of England broke away from the Catholic Church, rejected its authority, rejected some doctrines, changed other doctrines and continues to do so. By doing these thing it ceases to be 'church' in the Catholic understanding of the word. The fact they have cathedrals like this one in Singapore doesn't change anything. The whole Catholic world rejects Anglicans' claim to be Catholic. If the C of E and its offshoots think otherwise they are living in a state of delusion. That isn't meant to sound mean, it's just reality. 2. All mainstream Protestant denominations including Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians and Congregationalists also accept (and sometimes recite) the Nicene Creed. This does not make them Catholic either. The word 'catholic' in the creed means something different for Catholics and Protestants. 3. The Catholic Church very rarely refers to itself as the Roman Catholic Church. When it does so, usually in the USA, it is to to differentiate between the Latin rite (aka Roman rite) and Eastern rites. In fact it is much more common for Anglicans to use the term Roman Catholic in an attempt to legitimise the so-called Anglo Catholic wing of Anglicanism. Again, Anglo Catholics are not recognised as Catholics by 'Roman' Catholics.

The Church in England returned to Catholic Christianity which papal Rome and its satellite churches had sadly abandoned. 2. In returning to the true Catholic faith, the Anglican Communion maintains (in principle) its faith in the entire Catholic Church, including the Eastern Church and the Roman Church. In order words, the Anglican Communion (unlike almost any other Church family - Protestant, Romanist or Greek) believes itself not to be "separated" from any of these churches but disagreeing with them while not breaking Communion. It is these other churches that are in schism, not the Anglican Communion. The Lutherans recite the Nicene creed but Luther denounced the Roman Church as antichrist. The Roman Catholics recite it but excommunicated the Anglicans. The Orthodox recite it but do not recognize any Roman Catholic ordination and believe that Roman masses are illicit, etc. The Anglican Communion is the only truly Catholic among the major branches of Christianity today. 3. The official name of the Church with its headquarters in Rome is the "Roman Catholic Church". This use of the word "Roman" became necessary after the East-West Schism, also called the Great Schism of 1054, when the Roman Church and the Greek Church mutually excommunicated each other. The use of the word "Catholic Church" for the Roman Church is purely colloquial. The Roman Catholic Church is called the Catholic Church exactly in the same manner in which USA is sometimes called "America".

Anne Francis, I’m sorry but this is nonsense. You can’t justify the term ‘Anglican’ but reject the term, ‘Church of England’ which is what the organisation calls itself. Anglican comes from the Latin ‘ecclesia anglicana’ meaning English church. I.e. English trumps universal. When Henry VIII and other members of his family decided they could do a better job than the rest of the Catholic world they clearly embarked on a Protestant project, even though, it’s true, Henry would have rejected that word. His motivations, clearly personal and political rather than theological, are another matter entirely. But anyway, Henry and Elizabeth passed decrees and statutes to legally disconnect the church in his kingdom from Rome. That is by definition ‘breaking away’ and recorded historical fact. The excommunication from Rome came later. And more (Lutheran and Calvinist) reforms came later still. Read the 39 Articles of the C of E - explicitly Protestant! The Queen’s coronation oath - explicitly Protestant! The full name of the Anglicanism in America is ‘The Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America’! As for believing that only Anglicans are the only true Catholics. Well, to swallow that you must accept that God abandoned his Church for many centuries until he came up with the stunning idea of using the syphilitic psychopath Henry to bring about his desired reform. Namely, by murdering his wives and robbing monasteries (which provided English society with the only social services on offer at the time) to enrich himself and his friends. Nice.
