That was quick, in this next episode of my travel series - I depart Singapore headed to my next destination, Kuala Lumpur. Most people would choose to fly because KL is only 390km away. Did you know there are a whole host of coach services you can utilise as well? It ranges from the mundane to the crazy luxurious decked out ones like the one I'm on.

Indeed. One of the drawcards when Air Asia was born was that you can buy an air ticket for less than a bus fare. And they weren't wrong. But just like train travel, bus is for you to enjoy the journey.

Yes as an Australian with no love for airports the bus is definitely the way to do this journey. Even going from Singapore to Bangkok you could consider going by bus to KL then train to Bangkok. I lived in southern Thailand for two years in the 1990s and did the journey between the south and Bangkok both by bus and by train. Even then both methods were comfortable. I'm sure it's better now.

Hi Ryan, you are lucky for the slightly delay in reaching KL. Many years back, on a labour day holiday morning, I left Singapore at 6:30am by Sri Maju to KL. Jam was horrid. Our coach reached KL Berjaya Time-square at 9:00pm!
@ryansofly
@ryansofly Жыл бұрын
Oh my... That's horrible! Yes the traffic can be quite terrible along the highway during holiday season. I once left KL by car in Xmas eve thinking I would arrive in 2nd link at midnight and sail through it to be home. I ended up being stuck at 2nd link for 5 hours because everyone thought like me? Lol... Pity the high speed rail has been canned. Otherwise that would be ideal.

Lovely comfortable coach, I'd travel on it. I have already done this route back in 1984, flying Brisbane-Singapore-Kuala Lumpur-Abu Dhabi-London. I remember we had to stay in our plane at KL airport, no photos out of windows and soldiers with rifles surrounding the plane. Apparently another plane was hi-jacked 200 kms away. We were sprayed above our heads, then took off again. I flew solo, so was a daunting experience to remember.

Najib himself was embroiled in one of the last decade biggest global corruption scandal i.e. 1MDB & his grand plan for Malaysia's latest train system was in the midst of that (circa 2014-2017). Any sane citizen and member of the parliment would have take a step back in order to scrutinize the damage of the corruption to the national's coffer. The 1MDB siphoned money were returned to Malaysia annually by external foreign governments and entities up until today, after the success pushing Najib & BN down from the throne in 2018.

Last week, I booked this bus for my trip to KL. My trip was not very enjoyable. First of all, the bus was supposed to come at 9am to Golden Mile Complex, but it wasn't there. Best of all, it wasn't even the Transtar First Class Solitaire Suite bus. It was just a regular normal seated bus and we were told to board it and transfer to Solitaire only after we cross the Tuas checkpoint. This was already a big turn off for me since I booked for my family of three and we were on a regular bus for about two or three hours. From what I saw once I got to the Solitaire, it all looks a bit run down now. Things work but do not look as posh as advertised. Maybe it was just the bus that I was in. I give it a 4/10.

I did this journey by bus some years ago. A Singapore friend drove me to Johor Bahru bus station where the fares are much cheaper and going through the immigration points in a private car is a bit simpler and quicker. Yes I'd do it again, by the time you've cleared two airports flying isn't much quicker and definitely less environmentally responsible 😊

Looks luxurious, however only 15Kg luggage allowed. Plus check the bus schedules, the route Singapore - KL is all about the right timing of the night / day, as the traffic can be horrendous, if you travel during peak hours. And price of course. The Aeroliner is to me still the best option.

I have tried many of the coach trips to KL between 2000 to 2009, and the most luxurious one is this particular one, of course. However, the standards have gone up so much. I truly enjoy it, and I wish to do it again later. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Its the luck of draw really. On a weekday mid morning is fine. But hit a public holiday, you're in for a jam of epic proportions. I was once caught at the border jam for 8 hours.

The saddest event regarding JB to KL by train was when they dropped the overnight sleeper :( Yes the lack of a direct JB to KL train sucks. It has to do with KL to Gemas being electrified and Gemas to JB still diesel. I 'think' they have almost electrified the whole line which will be good because the current layover at Gemas is like 3 hours. btw This bus is on my to do list next year. Is there room for an airline carry on where people normally sit on the bus ??
@ryansofly
@ryansofly Жыл бұрын
Yeah the train situation is a bit shit. That's why I chose not to do it. Perhaps when it is fully electrified I'll look at it again. As for the bus, my roller luggage was stored in the cargo hold. I had one laptop bag as a carry on in the main cabin, which I placed in the floor. There are no luggage compartments in the main cabin.

The bus is the way to go when travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Ryan! No airport security nonsense, no risk of luggage getting lost, you go from central city to central city and you sit in seats similar to business class on a plane. Add to that the views from the bus window and the far cheaper fare. Why would you fly? I've travelled this way a few times and once by air.

If you need to use the toilet, just tell the bus driver and he will stop at the nearest rest stop. There are many along the way so you need not worry about having to hold it in for too long.

have not traveled that far up msia since covid, but I think maybe you can buy a ticket from KL back to SG for same price of 60 but in ringgit ... which is 3 times less because I always do it when I used to go up to melaka, from golden mile I buy a 1 way ticket and pay S$25 to melaka then once I disembark at melaka central bus station I immediately buy a return ticket for same price of 25 ringgit. One thing to note a lot of malaysians work in SG but return home to msia on Fridays evenings after work then on Sunday evenings they have to come back down again to report to work on monday so coach tickets get sold out very fast if you want to return on Sundays make sure you buy your ticket ASAP. But you can also hire a private vehicle taxi which is way lot faster but of course much more expensive I think was under 400 ringgit melaka to SG before covid.

I took Aeroline coach usually as m a privilege member Its similar to what your service experience ...the bus has WC at lower deck and you get blanker n and hot drinks n water besides hot meals or bowl instant noodles if u don't want the regular meal ...try it ... Used to be 50$ SG to kl it's stops at Corus hotel KL ...if you travel KL to SG from Corus hotel u can enjoy free coffee self service at the hotel designated area for Aeroline customers n you can enjoy discount meals too at Corus hotel

Dang I was hoping to be the first to comment! Seriously interested in watching this review. I've worked in SIN and visited Malaysia so many times during my expat life. However, I've only ever flown so this is a first for me. Drag queen door bitch! HAHAHAHA HOLY MOLY! This is not a coach/bus, this is a throne on wheels. Why would anyone want to be on the lower deck? Upper deck all the way. This is better than most business class. 370km is nothing to us aussies. Detained in immigration...Border Security! Sigh...wish i was back there. I would rather have that little Malaysian bento box over anything Matt Moran dishes up. HAHA Seriously this is SO WORTH the price. I would actually do this too, like you said, if I'm not in a rush. Seriously so excited to follow your foodie adventure in Malaysia.

Hahahahahaha.... Yeah there was one reply before the video premiered. I actually preferred to drive to KL when work sent me there previously. I would be there in 4 hours max. About the same time as my colleagues who flew. And I get the benefit of using a car to drive around. Back then there were no trains, KL Sentral, Grab etc... Hahahaha Matt Moran, I only mentioned him because I've always had a huge crush on him. Plus, I've had his beef cheeks in SQ JCL of all places. Yummo... Yes, next episode is finally my KL foodie one. Can't believe how quickly time flies... I'm already coming to the end of this series already!
