Hi, yes, I guess that is the gamble on buying such old vintage machines. There is always the risk of something happening. If found at a good price, it's most often than not worth paying for things to be fixed if they do go wrong, depending on price. If too costly, I would sell for spares or repairs and try and find another cheap vintage machine in a thrift shop. Old Vintage Singers don't have plastic gears, the 185K and 201k are fab machines - Best wishes

These machines are known for that. Only go with machines with metal gears.

@@lostwonders Yes - the last all-metal Singers were the 40X series. I have a 401g and it's fabulous for straight stitch (it should come with a straight stitch plate and foot) plus zigzag, satin and more decorative stitches than you could ever need. Built like a tank - 70 years old and still mint. Heavy duty. Not expensive if you're patient - no need to go for anything later - after that they started using plastic gears. And I also have a 201k which is a joy to use for straight stitch.

Hi, Thank you for your comment. This video was only made to show that this machine was working as it was for sale on eBay. Are you asking how to do the bobbin - bottom thread? It's a drop in bobbin system mechanism, I am sure if you googled "drop in bobbin" you will get some, how to videos showing you how to do it. If that doesn't work after threading it correctly then try checking you have the correct needle in for that machine and that it isn't bent and its also in the correct way. I hope you get it sorted.

Hi, the best way to get an idea of a price for a machine is to go on eBay, type in the make and model number and then look at completed listings. You will then see how much they have sold for, and you can then get an idea of the price. Best wishes

Thank you for your comment. If this video was made to be a how to use video then I would have done just that but, this video was made purely for sales purposes. The machine in the video was for sale. I made the video to show potential buyers the machine. Buyers found it extremely helpful to have a video showing them all around the machine, showing the machine works and sews. They found it a million times better to be able to watch a video too, instead of just looking at pictures of something they are interested in buying. All the best :)
