There are two reasons David stands head and shoulders above the rest. Besides his God given talent, David believes the words he sings with his whole heart. The other reason is he has an anointing that allows him to reach places in our heart that no one else can. God doesn't want our religion, He wants a relationship.

That fact that he does this type of vocal performance live is quite remarkable. The confidence and power to go for all these power notes and nail it every time when most singers would crack or falter, is amazing. And he sings with passion, making the chance of a voice blemish even more possible and still delivers perfection. Truly a voice and a gift from God.

Those Homecoming gatherings were filled with phenomenal singers, and it was such a pleasure to see all of them appreciating each other's skill. My mother and I attended the 3-day Homecoming festivals in Gatlinburg back in the 1990s and got to interact with many of them personally. They don't just sing with passion, they sing with faith. They honor their elder statesmen in the genre, too. The pianist, I believe, is Anthony Burger, and he was a prodigy.

The pianist is Anthony Burger. He and David Phelps had an amazing ability to support each other and lift up each other's ability. Anthony sadly went home to be with the Lord in 2006.

For any who have truly trusted Christ, you may think you have left God, but He has not left you. We all face the hurt of reality in our failures and the shortcomings of other Christians - and even doubts about fundamentals of the Christian message we trusted - but we should reach the point the disciples did when many followers left and Jesus asked them "Will you also go away?" But Peter answered "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life". One of the great things about the Gaither "Homecoming" ministry is the focus on the elderly and the reality of hopes and lingering fears even for committed believers towards the end of life. The ministry must have provided comfort and assurance for so many without denying the brokenness of which we are all a part. Both Bill Gaither and David Phelps have lost siblings before their time and it adds sensitivity and depth to the message they share. There is quite a story to the life of the wonderful pianist Anthony Burger too, a life seemingly cut short too soon. Apologies for the long comment, but hope it may help.

Wow God really gives amazing gifts to people. I discovered David Phelps only 2 days ago. I’m 65 and a Christian. And dude God wants you back BIG Time. I think u know that.. Just a random thought I had last night, David Phelps voice is this exquisite now. Imagine Heaven when all war, judgement sadness is done and we who believe are praising God. We will be made perfect right? I can’t even imagine what David’s voice and all our voices will sound like then. Your own beautiful voice will be perfect. David knows how to take the song he is singing and go straight up into the heavenlies and bring the anointing down into the place where he is, and bring the presence of God into everyone's presence. This is such a gift of the Holy Spirit that few have and I am so absolutely blessed to hear David Phelps sing, any song for that matter, because, he does put himself into the song and he is actually an instrument of worship! I pray God's blessing and protection on him, and his family. He is mightily used of God, that is for sure!!

Like you, this is the music of my childhood and young adulthood, and it filled my family's home. So, I share the nostalgia, even the longing for being able to have that former simple and childlike belief. Thanks for doing this reaction video, it's one of my favorites I have seen him sing in person many times and it affects me the same way every time. I heard from a friend of David's who sang with him in their church choir when they were just teenagers. She said that she knew he was destined for greater things because even back then, he made grown men cry when he sang. You are correct, he is one of the greatest performers out there, BUT also a gifted messenger, here for us for a reason.

One of the greatest moments of my entire 22 years of life was getting to go to a Gaither concert when I was 16 years old and hear David’s voice from the _front few rows._ Because I also believe the words he sings are true, I am being completely serious when I say that it was a HOLY experience.

There is a connection between water and the Holy Spirit and when you are moved and convicted by the annointing, the power and the spirit with which David sings, the water within you sometimes can't help but flow right out of you in the form of joyful tears.
