Disney was smart to hire Lin-Manuel for the music in this film. He nailed every song brilliantly.

My favorite detail is the order of verses. It starts with the protagonist's Aunt and Uncle, who knew Bruno personally, follows with an older cousin who knew Bruno as a child and the goes to a similarly-aged cousin who doesn't remember Bruno and is mostly making up stuff to freak her out.

context without spoilers everyone in the family except for the main character (girl in glasses) was given a gift/power. The powers(in order as you seen in this video) the first lady controls the weather with her emotions, girl in red dress can hear things really well, the next guy can shapeshift, and the girl in pink can make flowers etc. But Bruno's power was he could see the future. So obviously if you're hanging around somebody who mentions bad news about your future you wouldn't want to be around him. So Bruno left. I recommend "the family madrigal" for a better intro or better yet watch the movie!

Fun facts: Dolores, the one with super hearing, refers to him in present tense, and late in the song goes from “it’s like I hear him now” to just “I can hear him now” because she in fact knows exactly where he is. As to Isabella. With the happy story, the last part of her song during the over lap is “and I’m fine and I’m fine I’m fine”. She seems to have the one good prediction, But as the movie goes into later, she actually feels trapped by it, and does not want the life she currently has but doesn’t know how to tell everybody else who thinks everything is perfect.

I'd just like to clarify that the music in Encanto was not all by Lin Manuel Miranda. The songs the characters sung were by Lin Manuel Miranda. The Score were by Germaine Franco. They both deserve credit for how beautiful the whole movie sounded and you should definitely watch and listen to it.

Bruno's gift lets him see into someone's future, he doesn't control it but once you see it, it never changes. From what I know you gotta give consent, so idk why people are so horrible to him.

You definitely need to watch the whole movie. A real masterpiece, with a great message. Yes it is the same guy who did Hamilton and Moana.

Fun Fact: In “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” all the characters are singing over the same cord progression, but to different melodies.

Delores sums the whole Bruno situation up with "Always left Abuela and the family fumbling, grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand." Bruno gets way too much flack. These are self-fulfilling prophecies. Tia Pepa - who starts the song - controls the weather with her emotions, so when Bruno tells her it looks like rain SHE panics and creates a hurricane. And that lady's goldfish was going to die no matter what Bruno said because it wasn't being properly kept.

Definitely check out Surface Pressure, also from Encanto. It's another great one with a really great (but sad!) underlying message.

Something I just realized while watching this is that Mirabel's mother doesn't contribute to the song, but everyone else does. And I feel like that's very telling considering she's a healer and this song is gossip.

This movie is INCREDIBLE and the music is straight fire! This song definitely needs all the context of the rest of the story - you’ll appreciate it even more once you see the movie a few times. You’ll find new stuff each time!!!

The song is genius in almost every aspect. We get a different story of who Bruno is from each character, layering in a narrative of confusion and superstition that WE can see but the characters cannot. We get a major chord structure with subtle dips into minor to get our attention for certain portions ushering us from section to section. We get a build-drop-build-drop pattern as voices layer in only to drop out in Delores’s portion and then again in Isabella’s making the tension grow more and more taunt throughout. Delores’s portion is accompanied by Flamenco steps in the audio, keeping the sense of pattern and rhythm without a chorus, letting her whisper her part while still getting a driving beat. We have been shown that Isabella is a bit of a spoiled princess and her verse being so different from the doom and gloom of all the others reinforces that narrative, Delores’s verse following, brings us back to the pessimistic view of Bruno so we can continue with the feeling of impending doom. The cues as to the arrival of the Guzmans for dinner make for a ticking clock, (“Mariano’s on his way”, “Your boyfriend is here.”, “Time for dinner!”) pushing us into the big drop where all the verses weave in and out filling the entire space, isolating Mirabel in a confusing swirl of narratives and characters, leaving her and us none the wiser despite everyone having a say. At the end of the piece we have a foundation of tension and confusion upon which to build the next scenes. Masterful construction, storytelling, direction of the audience, and pacing.

Dolores says that she associates Bruno with the sound of falling sand, right!? Well the sand is a perfect personification of Bruno's gift. Like his clairvoyance or predictions, it's never fully accurate, they're constantly shifting and changing like sand beneath our feet. Bruno also says to Mirabel that he doesn't know "WHEN" his prediction of her will come to fruition, only that it will happen, so the falling sand when entering his room is a reflection of an hourglass, because it's only a matter of time (or rather when) Bruno's prophecies may come true.

Best Disney movie in decades. All the songs are Oscar-worthy (especially Dos Oruguitas, it will likely win 🏆… but I also love Surface Pressure)

i LOVE how since each section runs on a 1 2 3 4 tempo, it allows them to all come together for that final cluster of voices

5:29 yess, i really love that this movie did that, Bruno doesnt have a villain song, everyone else just sings it for him, kinda from his POV, just assuming his personality! Thats a strong foreshadowing ;)

The context is that every member of the family has a magical gift (except for Mirabel), and Bruno's gift is that he can see the future. Except that he tends to only see bad things when he sees the future, so people don't like him.

I recommend “the family madrigal” next for better context on the movie. Another banger!

I know the composer and singers get a lot of credit in this song. But let's talk about the engineer that had to mix the last few minutes. What a damn task that man had, and it nailed it.

Bruno is not a villain, Latino stories usually don't have a hero and a villain. Latino stories tend to have flawed characters who sometimes mess up. In the case of Bruno, he's the black sheep of the family and what gossip can do to a family.

My take is that Pepa controls the weather with her emotions and the vision showed rain because of happy tears. But when Bruno told the vision to her she starts to worry bringing rain and they blame it on him thinking it wouldn't have rained if he didn't say anything.

Dolores part is my favorite. Between the whispering rap, the percussion of her shoes hitting the floor when she dances and Bruno chilling in the background. Genius.

SPOILERS (it's legit said at the beginning) With the second scene (the girl in the yellow top and red dress) she is always whispering because her gift makes her hear everything very loud. So she also had hardly any background music so that her quiet vocals were clearer.

I do love how you got so into the music and visuals that you got to the end and immediately were just like "Wait. Go through it again."

I love the Bruno character in the film. He’s basically cursed instead of gifted like the myth of Cassandra.

*Bruno* (voiced by John Leguizamo) *is the sweetest person ever!!!* Without spoiling the brilliant movie that is *Encanto,* I'll say this. First, please watch it!!! Lin-Manuel Miranda's character songs were beyond amazing. Second, Bruno is one of *Abuela's three children; they are triplets.* The children are: 1st Triplet = *Julieta,* power is *healing people with her food.* She's married to Augustine (no powers; he's accident prone), and their three kids are Isabela (flower power), Luisa (strong one), and Mirabel, (main character with green glasses; has no powers except hope). 2nd Triplet = *Pepa, power to affect the weather.* She's married to Felix (no power except dancing!), and their three kids are Dolores (super hearing), Camilo (shape shifter), and Antonio (start of movie has no power, then gets power to understand animals). 3rd Triplet = *Bruno, power to see the future.* Has no kids or wife. After seeing a vision of Mirabel and the destroyed Casita (house), he "left" and hasn't been *SEEN* (👂🏽) by anyone for 10 years. Listen to the song again and you'll see that *literally everything people complain about isn't Bruno's fault. He's just telling them what will happen in the future.* If you keep eating fattening crap, you'll get a gut. If you don't feed your fish, he will die. *For the wedding, all he said was "It looks like rain."* but that made Pepa (whose mood affects the weather) get upset, which caused the hurricane. So...did Bruno ruin her wedding? Or Did SHE?! 🤔

Encanto is 100% can make waves at the Academy Awards. Like it probably wins best song and best animated film and potentially best soundtrack. And honestly, a few animated films have been nominated for best film and I think Encanto can join that club.

The Dos Oruguitas scene and song were the most beautiful and tear jerking part of the entire movie I love when movies almost (even better if they do) make me cry which is what a lot of Disney movies have been missing for me recently
