They were rocking out the whole World Tour 2023 and everyone were having a blast with the setlist, the new songs from latest album and the classic hits, especially GC! either you hate or love it, is a song with crazy amount of views and they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist. Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop (not Kpop) and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey. This isn't actually live sound, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance but they're not official members, only these trio are the front women. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"._ The backing band here are called "baby-bones", they don't actually play they're just mimicking air playing instrument, later on this same concert and after 2014 you'll see the girls performing with a real band called the Kami Band, more of them later. Babymetal did 'Monochrome' on The First Take recently. That was a piano version. There is also an 'unfinished' version of Akatsuki which was also piano. At this show they also performed the electronic (dubstep) version of 'Headbanger' called the night of 15 mix. There is also an electronic version of Megitsune but that has never been performed live. This show was over 10 years ago. They're all grown up now. I saw them in Seattle a few months ago. They were great, crowd was great. They have 60 songs but Gimme Chocolate, Megitsune, Headbanger and Monochrome were performed.

I went to see them this past summer on their US tour. It was my first time seeing them live and really fun. Their music is typically heavier than this, though pop is still prominent. Their music is positive and uplifting, and their live performances are just energetic from start to finish. If you want to check out more, I think Megitsune, Monochrome, and Akatsuki would be interesting for you.

If you wanto to see how they are now (gimme chocolate was released 10 years ago), I suggest Monochrome Live at Pia Arena. Then you could watch to the piano version of that song, looking for Monochrome - the first take - piano version. You won't be disappointed.

The only striped down versions of their songs that I can think of are “Akatsuki Unfinished version Legend 1997” concert and “Monochrome piano version” on the first take channel. Akatsuki was at the same concert as Gimmie Chocolate so Su was a teenager and when Monochrome was recorded I believe Su was an adult maybe 6 years or more between them. Both of them are excellent, Akatsuki feels really raw and emotional but it’s just Su, Monochrome has Su and Moa, sadly Yui left for health reasons in 2018 before it was recorded.

Babymetal is great. I have seen them many times, their concerts are like a metal dance party. Good times. They do have a few stripped back songs, check out Monochrome - First Take; but also checkout Monochrome - Live PIA Arena. Metali is another good one, and Kingslayer Live too. The song represents a huge juxtaposition of cute vocals (and lyrics) and metal (quite brutal, actually). But it's the point of the song. This MV went viral in 2014 and it helped them a lot, to say the truth. They are very diverse musically as they don't hesitate on mixing any music genre with metal (any subgenre). They have more poppy and also more metal so, they have something for everyone. I love this band. They were so young here and so great too. The 3 of them were on a variety show for kids in Japan. After they left the show(I believe because they aged out. It was a kids show) they evolved into this. I saw them live a few months ago. They are in their mid twenties now. They have not only matured but also evolved. They are still great.

As someone who's been a huge fan of theirs for over a decade - ever since this song first came out - I can tell you they are an amazing band you'll want to check out way more of! Not only is their sound pretty unique, but Su Metal has an incredible singing voice that just got stronger as she got older. 'Gimme Chocolate' is one of their fun songs (they just want some chocolate but worry about their weight ... but it is chocolate, it would be so nice and they would be so happy, so can they just have a piece of chocolate please).🍫🍫🍫 They have many songs that are deeper and more meaningful, nearly all of them are positive and uplifting or inspiring - but you will struggle to find another song that sounds like this one. BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off bland music). BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement. BABYMETAL are the three girls - Su-metal (lead vocalist) and Moametal and, since April 1st last year, Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in - audience participation is a huge part of what BABYMETAL are all about). The best advice I can give when it comes to Babymetal is when you get to their next song, don’t expect more of the same. They have a huge variety in their music.

Babymetal founded their own style of music called Kawaii Metal (literally "cute" metal) blending J-Pop and Heavy Metal which is now a genre onto itself with other groups performing the style as well. But Japan also has a really strong scene of all-female traditional hard rock and metal bands where the musicianship is insane and the sound often ultra heavy but the look of the bands is ultra-feminine. often dressing like bridesmaids, or Disney Princesses or French Maids - bands like Lovebites, Nemophila, Band-Maid, Aldious, Hanabie, Bridear, Fate Gear, Hagane, Mary's Blood and Gacharic Spin are all hard-rocking bands that fall into this mold. If hard rock/metal isn't really your thing though, you might prefer starting out with a band called Scandal, 4 ladies who have been playing together almost 20 years since they were all in high school - their sound is lighter - more pop influenced rock with just a little bit of punk edge, similar to the Bangles back in the 80s. One of the many things I love about Babymetal is that they prove beyond doubt that metal isn't just for grumpy old white men (like me...) or angry young white men. The choreography is fantastic and makes it much more visually interesting, and in my opinion it makes them stand out and dials things up to 11. Others have pointed out Monochrome, which is well worth doing to compare The First Take piano version with the live version st Pia Arena, which is heavy but very melodic too. If you want something differernt, Iine (pronounced E-e-nay) is heavy with EDM and a bit of hip hop. No Rain No Rainbow is an acoustic ballad, as is Akatsuki (unfinished); Akatsuki live is the ultimate power ballad. From Dusk Til Dawn, live at Budokan 2021 is a vocal masterpiece, with the heavy elements used very deftly to enhace the singing, not overwhelm it. But they are a metal band, and a genius one at that. Headbanger live at Legend 1997 is my personal favourite and shows just how good they all are together. One last point, live Babymetal is the best Babymetal, the official MVs are good, but they are at their best with a crowd.

Not all at the same time of course. : ) The whole concept of combining JPop music with metal could have been a disaster, but the quality of the singing, songwriting, choreography and staging take it to another level. 'Gimme Chocolate!!' is definitely one of their "poppier" tracks. Even so, that blast beat gets you. And the whole thing is about 10x heavier live. This is the studio track over the live 'Legend 1997' concert footage which celebrated the lead singer's 16th birthday. That's Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, or "Su".) This video is a quite old music video, so the lineup of the girls changed since then as Yui (the girl on your left) quit performing in 2017 for health reasons, and then Momo joined this year, finally filling the spot. I definitely recommend recent live performances of their songs Monochrome, Light and Darkness, Megitsune, and Road of Resistance from the PIA Arena 2023 concerts, Black and Clear Night. (Edit: I linked a playlist in a reply to this). They do stripped down versions, they have one of Monochrome which is a piano version on The First Take as well as one for Akatsuki which is titled 'unfinished version', and then The One which is titled 'Stairway to Living Legend'.

Hah what a fun first time reaction! I'm 47, discovered them early last year and they skyrocketed close to the top of my favorite bands (I normally love prog metal, prog rock, guitar virtuoso). I never knew how much I needed choreo in my metal haha! My wife and I got to see them our first time back to back in Houston and Dallas in August and it was mind blowing! They are older now, but just as adorable and cute, but their skills have just improved so much with age. The dance moves on the newer material is more quick, precise, and complicated, and Su, the lead singer, has grown out of her (it was amazing even back then though) younger voice and her mid range is so rich and awesome now! We were very close to the stage in Dallas and we got some smiles and waves, their crowd interaction and stage presence feels pretty incredible in person, and yet another skill they've only improved in! No two songs sound the same. The song meanings range from childish and cute (like this one) to fairly dark but very deep important, like Ijime Dame Zettai which talks about the effects of bullying. There relentless energy in infectious even now, and their extreme hard work inspires me. I hope you enjoy more!

This song/video along with Babymetal Death and Headbanger was filmed during Su-Metal's 16th Birthday celebration. Su is the lead singer, while the other two girs are Yuimetal and Moametal both around 14 at this time if i'm not mistaken. If you want a striped down song, I would highly suggest Monochrome (piano Ver) The First Take.

Girls are all grown up now and still building on more and more complex things. Metal not being your thing and putting a toe in the pool is brave. Just last October I was in Japan and Saw Bring me the Horizon, King Slayer, Featuring Baby Metal, Live in Tokyo... I was there and it was off the hook and LIVE If you need something lighter and want to see Sue Metal then look at "The First Take" Monochrome. You'll smile after that one and softer.

Welcome to the BabyMetal foxhole 😁 seen many great bands, but by far, BabyMetal is the best seen them 5 times now . quening around 12 hours each time , 3 of them in winter but worth it . Seeing their big shows in Japan is on every fans bucket list . Was hoping to go 2020, but covid happened maybe this year . I Surrgest Road of Resistance live in Japan. A lot of comments have mentioned the Monochrome piano version, but do a double reaction and watch PIA Arena version after the piano version to see the contrast. Good Reaction. They don't do stripped down too often. Good examples would be Akatsuki Unfinished at Legend 1997 concert in 2013 (same concert this Gimmie Chocolate mv was filmed) , you can see the full version of Akatsuki at the 2014 Budokan Black Night concert. Another Example is Monochrome Piano Version on The First Take, a good full live version would be Monochrome Live at PIA Arena. Maybe you could do a two video reaction where you watch both the full and stripped down versions.

Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. In the beginning Amuse showed little interest and the girls had minimal financing. They performed at strip malls and small venues borrowing clothes for shows from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They quickly became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). All their songs are uplifting, unlike almost every single metal song ever created. For a "stripped down song" watch their "First Take" version of Monochrome, then watch the original version.

If you want to travel down the path of female Japanese rock bands, I recommend Band Maid (my personal favorite) and Lovebites. They don't front the musicians, they are the musicians. Also Fate Gear, there are a lot of good bands coming out of Japan.
