This song was inspired by the death of Leslie Cheung, a famous, talented and very much loved singer/actor from Hong Kong, who committed suicide on April Fool's Day 2003. Leslie is a closeted gay artiste (although all his close friends and dedicated fans knew) and this song was inspired by his life story. Hua greatly admired Leslie and regularly performs "I am what I am" (written by Leslie, and performed once a year at the end of his Mars concerts) to show his respect and to remind people of Leslie and his deeds. Exaggerated is a great epic song by Eason Chan, known for his amazing vocals. The song is in Cantonese, not Mandarin, which is one of the toughest dialect to learn. Most people will never attempt to sing this song as it is really a difficult song to master. Hua did a great job. It was heartbreaking to watch as a fan of Leslie Cheung. Brings tears to my eyes everytime.

i am so glad u appreciate his uniqueness. there may be alot of singers out there, showing off their talents in every song that they sing. while hua treats himself as just another instrument in the song, doing only what is required to blend in with the song/band/stage. his humility, his down-to-earth and pure intention for music are reasons why fans love him so much.

This is the first time I see both of you commenting so much Lol. My feelings are in tandem with yours. Brilliant as he is, Hua will never be as popular as some mainstream superstars as his music is just too alternative and unorthodox. While he excels greatly in technique, his music is more about passion and expressing what he feels and experiences. This is the main reason he has many detractors who criticize him for his "erratic' performances. While performances like Fake Monk and Nunchucks were lauded, they were also lambasted by many critics. However I always believe that the fundamental role of music has always been an outlet for the soul and should not be restrained by rigidities such as technique. This is why Hua is my Number 1.

Some of his fans self-accusated that they shoudnot have asked him to sing heartbreaked songs like this one after they saw Huas perfomace. They worried that Hua would hurt his health with so intense emotion because Hua is a real artist who put his whole soul in his perfomace every time.

I firstly watched this video, then I got shocked. I can’t get out of this song immediately, so I rewatched this performance many times. Hua is using his life to perform music, and fortunately I can feel him, I feel great pain and at the same time, I feel release. He put his feelings out and he helped me, too.

Hua Chenyu music does not follow trend. He has own music styles with regardless others love it or not. Yes many people cannot accept his styles n mock at him. His producer and company did request he to do some main stream music but he refused n insist he just want to do his own type of music. That's why he composed "Aliens" n " I don't care" to send the message out to others. Now more n more people appreciate his music n love him n that's great. He received endless awards that's prove that he is on the right path n doing the right thing.

Eason Chan performed this song at the Mnet Asian Music Awards or MAMA for short in 2014 and it's really good as well, as Eason is a fantastic vocalist, but also hearing the entire crowd all joining in is fantastic. It is one of my favourite live performances, that's really worth checking out. Also this song is inspired by Leslie Cheung and Hua Chenyu you could just feel his emotion and admiration for the man in his singing here, it's so raw.

It is a song in cantonese, which he don't speak, and it is regarded as a really hard song to sing. He didn't do so many cganfe to the song, changed some of the music, which imo gives the song more power some places. His emotions, acting and singing... all is on point. He delivered it beautifuly, with all the emotions.... just crazy enough. He accidentally fell at the end of the song.

This song was written to mourn the passing of the icon star Leslie. I also like this theatrical version of Hua, but I do recommend the original version of Eason Chan, since the Cantonese lyrics are difficult to pronounce, and personally I sense a heavy silence in Eason's version.

He did very good as the lyrics are not Chinese ( I mean putonghua ), its Cantonese. Hua Chenyu used to sing in Putonghua and it is hard for typical Chinese to learn the accent of Cantonese. He tried hard. Sorry for my bad English
