I think the problem with this medley is that it wasn’t designed as a medley. They just sang all the tracks of the album in track list order. So it felt a bit off and the transitions were a little shaky. But the full album is amazing. Really great stuff.

On the album Matt sings a solo on the start of Stay. This medley doesn't do the album justice at all, hopefully you can get to hear them all soon.

this medley of theirs was fully optimized towards the album and not towards musicality as in their typical medleys, maybe that was what threw you off a little. for example not knowing all the songs etc. i am sure you will be blown away when you hear the single songs

I agree, they're still finding their way, but t's still early-give them a little time. They always make the most of every member's talents (even encouraging each other to learn new skills), so I think they will soon find their way again. Don't forget that for the first couple of years, Avi was "just a bass." It took time to learn how to fully integrate his skills into the trio.

If you want to hear Matt sing he's actually already sang a couple songs when PTX were on their Christmas tour like Hallelujah and Mary, Did You Know? There are a couple good quality videos on youtube if you want to hear those. There's also a video called Ain't Nothin' Matt did before he was in PTX where he sings and it's REALLY good :)

They actually filmed this in NYC during an all-day session of press to help promote the album. I have no idea how long they had to prep, but I doubt it was long because of flying in for press, and Kirstin being on Broadway. With the other medleys, they had a lot more prep time. Matt does sing at the beginning of Stay on the album. 💗 Can't wait to see your other Sing-off reactions!

Don't apologise for being honest, you weren't being mean, it was constructive so its all good. And I agree with you guys, they definitely sound different, not bad different, just different. About this medley, it was a quick arrangement just as a promotional thing for the album, so they didn't pay much time to provide for an intricate arrangement. Matt does sing live during concerts, and also has sung small parts on the album (starts Stay, has a small part in Sorry Not Sorry..). The album is actually really good, I like some of the arrangements a lot. When you do get to listen to it, please PLEASE record your reaction cuz I'm really looking forward to it. I agree, but this was a medley of this new album and Matt only gets one solo in the whole album I think. But Kevin did get a tiny vocal part in the medley that is normally Scott's part so they could have given Matt a part too I guess. This wasn't a real PTX medley, it's just more of an album promo.

What I liked about the medley was that it was sung live. The mic balance was excellent and they all really nailed their parts. It always impresses me how well they sing live. Don't worry about delivering an honest opinion. I didn't like the national anthem arrangement myself. Nobody ever bats 1000 (sorry, American baseball reference). Sony Music must really hate you guys in Germany!

I love the medley but my main disappointment in it is that my favorite song off the album "Praying" was just barely done by Scott at the very end of "Issues"

Overall, I love this album. It definitely has a different voice -- IMO a more mature voice, especially Kirstie -- but I agree with another reactor who said that he did hear some old arrangement styles revisited. Avi is a trained, assured, operatic basso profundo and an amazing director of choral music. Is Matt a basso profundo? I don't know. He is only 22 and is in a new job taking over for a wildly popular predecessor on a world stage. I would imagine that he is playing it as safe as possible while he walks a very narrow line. I don't blame him. Also, I speculate that when they hired him they must have emphasized that they needed a bass, not a baritone. Avi has an incredibly beautiful baritone and has said part of the reason he left is so that he could use that part of his voice more frequently. I imagine that Matt is happy as a clam to "be the bass" of Pentatonix. He won a lottery, really. I agree with all the folks telling you they appreciate your honest opinions. I was heavily criticized because I didn't care for a Sia album. It didn't mean that I didn't, in general like her and her other work, or appreciate the level of artistry she has. There is a huge difference between trolling/hating on something and expressing thoughtful, constructive criticisms or simply not liking a particular piece because it is not to your taste. This is your channel. Do you. Your subscribers like you. 😊

Simply wow!!!!!

Oh! Matt has parts he sings a solo line during the verses of "Sorry, Not Sorry", and it REALLY sounds cool because you're not expecting it! He opens "Stay" with a solo, and plays off Mitch with a low "bom" then Mitch's higher "bom" back and forth on one of the intros... AND, he live streamed his performance at "Berkley Night" which was a very kicked back group of friends and musicians jamming and fans were getting to see his mannerisms, personality and hear him as a soloist. They were all wowed and one girl said she liked the energy around him. That's what makes you accept Matt. When you watch him being himself and interracting with group members, fans and his friends. I hope you guys can learn to love the group with him in it. It's different, but not worse.

Lots of american reactors have had issues with their Pentatonix reactions being blocked in Germany. Don't know wth is going on, but the problem seems to be connected to Germany for some stupid reason. Copyright laws needs updating, badly.

They left off "Praying" and they deliver a VERY moving rendition. I really think the verses assigned to each vocalist (First Scott, Mitch then Kirstie) had lyrics that I felt were a truth for that person based on their history (whether recent or further back) . So it's more moving. "Feel it Still" is my FAVORITE! I love Mitch's vocals on it, and the background is really neat and constantly changing a bit so the song doesn't get too repetitive. That whole song is just fun ear candy that makes you want to dance! For me, it's a really cool Bop. Mitch has a lot of fun with it too. Also, on this Album, Mitch has a new high note and I believe it is an F5.? People please correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am). Kirstin has lead on a few songs! She sounds great! Matt sings his first solo in the beginning of "Stay", and is reallyreallyreally excited about it! 😊 I love this album!

Matt did a fair amount of solo singing in his old a capella group so I'm hopeful he will do his fair share in the future.

First of all, I enjoyed this reaction so much, because of the honesty that the two of you bring. For young singers that I teach, because you can hear harmonies and transitions and leads vs backgrounds, I use a capella. With my students, I started with Pentatonix because that was the anchor point that was relatable. Then we moved to Home Free where harmonies are easier to hear just stylistically and finally we've been working with some of Voiceplay, because it is very accessible to younger vocalists. Students have debated me on Pentatonix, saying that since I'm such an Avi fan that I'm not giving Matt a chance and that's not it all. I'm ready to hear him sing as you mentioned so no Matt hating from me at all. However, this is a very personal opinion, I'm wondering what path Pentatonix is heading down and I guess that is what is holding me back just a bit. Kevin is doing his own arranging and recording, Mitch and Scott has Superfruit, and Kirsty has been on stage, all which I applaud. But in going through all the sing-off performances, I remind myself that the original trio Kirsty, Mitch, and Scott were on 19. When I present material, isn't it strange to say this is old-school Pentatonix (with Avi) and this is the current with Matt? That's why I have been hesitant in commenting on Pentatonix reactions because I'm conflicted with myself. It has to be said that Pentatonix really brought a capella to the fore once more when it had become an almost neglected genre. Thank you for the reaction and giving a forum for thoughtful discourse as always.

It really sucks that you guys are having trouble being able to react to these when other reactors, and not just in the U.S. are getting to do their reactions. I agree that Matt is not doing anything other than bass YET (and doing it very well) but they have been working him in slowly and I know he is capable of great singer so I expect that we will hear a lot more from him in the future.

Guys. Remember they have a label. SME has been known to clip the groups creative wings and may be drawing some lines in the sand. No. you don't want to hear him singing Avi's parts.. they have different styles and it's not going to sound right. I wanted this to work really bad but there are simply some songs that are going to be from the original members and there will be new songs from after your Avi Kaplan left. And this is going to sound bad and I don't mean it to. I love Avi! I miss him so much it hurts. But there were times when he sang Just the plain old bass notes when they were doing the couch sessions that I was so ashamed of myself because I honestly thought he sounded like a frog croaking. I know I know. But it's the truth. And I don't hear Matt sounding that way on those type of vocals. However Avi has a very melodic sound 9.9% of the time, and his solos in his upper range are beautiful! He also does a killer over tone! But Matt has a different sound and he does not sound like Avi when he sings his Parts on old songs. I think that's a reason that they put out an album basically songs we would all be familiar with because they're very recent from the charts and we get a chance to get used to Matt who I do believe should be voted group clown cuz he's just really . And he has the best personality and is so humble and grateful. No he is Beyond grateful to be living this dream that still doesn't feel real to him . He went from being a fan to being a group member. And I don't want Pentatonix to be over. Superfruits touring right now, and their shows are a ton of fun! But you may not realize that they no longer live in the same house. Scott bought a new house and he has a boyfriend and another guy that hangs out with them that I think is also a boyfriend while Mitch spends his time with his man in a beautiful setting that I wish I lived at. And there's a lot of pictures of Mitch with his boyfriends family, I do believe Mitch was invited over for holidays which he accepted and he looks so relaxed and so happy it's really nice. But I have my fears about actual Channel Superfruit and what kind of things will happen from now forward. It freaks me out to be honest. I think you guys hate me. I hope not. But you say that you're being honest and I'm being honest as well. It is it possible that you are set to compare Matt and Avi instead of letting go of expecting to hear Avi when he is gone and will remain so? Cuz Matt didn't usurp that role. I'll be vacated it. So why are we so defensive of Avi in this setting? He doesn't want to be part of this so why are we trying to make it that way? He wanted to do something different and this wasn't his thing. I can't fault somebody that wants to be there and auditioned and was selected to be there. The group chose him and they said they feel the same Magic with him that they felt the first time they formed the group. Scott said he didn't think it would be possible to ever feel that again and he is very very relieved that they found Matt because he just fits perfectly with them and their Style and personalities plus he has ideas that they hadn't thought of and they want to explore them. I just think that since they had to replace Avi I'm glad they found somebody that I really like and you guys are pretty much the only holdouts that are really expecting but I think are unrealistic things from Matt. Only time will tell if he's as good as Avi. I think he is, he just has a different style. And I don't understand why they're being punished for what Avi did to the group! They didn't do this. I can talk myself to death and I don't think it would help someone to take a step back and maybe look at it the bigger picture here. I just don't want to cry anymore when I used to enjoy it so much. I really am sorry that you guys are so disappointed and really if you think about it you're expecting the worst from them. it's a standard you're holding them to that is just unrealistic. Well thanks for watching it. Wish you would have liked it but it isn't a fleshed-out example of how amazing the songs are and the contribution that Matt makes to the songs. And if Avi heard Matt constantly being compared to him he would defend Matt and say how talented Matt is because Avi is one of the people that talked Matt into trying out, and is always saying positive things about Matt and defending Pentatonix when people insult them saying they don't sound the same on Twitter. he has some pretty strong feelings about them getting the brunt of it all for his decision.

It's ok. We're aware how different Matt is. Avi was an extraordinary bass for PTX. Matt has a totally different style. PTX has got a new energy that I love, even more than the original PTX. But the bass is definitely not as strong. It's a trade off. I'm not 100% sold yet, but I trust they'll get there.

regarding Matt... fans would FREAK if they let Matt do too much right now. They were upset thinking they'd have Matt say "And don't forget to subscribe". How can the group really let Matt cut loose when they're trying not to upset the fans that get pissed as if it's PTXs fault. I love you guys but I've been a fan for so long and I'm managing to give this a fair shot instead of having a Stranglehold on to Avi. He chose to leave this group and I don't want to see them ruined. Scott actually sit on the interview that he was terrified that it was the end of them when Avi left. That's why I got so upset when people would do nothing but talk about Avi whenever PTX put up something after he had left. They really need our support and if you honestly don't think they sound good then don't react to him anymore. But is sounds damn good to me, and I'm very glad that this group that I have loved from the beginning did not end because one person wanted to go solo. I so sad that you guys didn't enjoy this.😔 I honestly feel like crying. They skipped the second to last song on the album in this medley, Kesha's 'Praying'. Maybe it was just too slow of a song to fit in well?

IDK, I like the album, but it's definitely not my favorite of PTX's. Maybe since I'm older I miss the "depth" and audio "fullness" of their previous covers and originals. Outside of a few exceptions, the album leaves me feeling "meh." The overall feel of the record is a bit hollow. I think PTX saying they decided to return to their roots is them putting a positive spin on the situation, giving Matt time to develop. And that's perfectly fine, of course. He is replacing a popular vocal heavyweight. I don't envy his task.

This medley did feel weirdly empty to me. Not sure if it’s the mic balance to blame for that or maybe Matt’s bassline needs to be rewritten, but it definitely needs something to make it feel full.
