There’s a saying; ‘the old ones are the best.’ What a great song this is. A song published in 1929 that became famous in 1952 as performed by Gene Kelly in the movie of the same name. Watch how I’m playing this - I’m playing the melody with block chords mostly and just walking around the bass line with my left hand and getting into a bit of a swing - my usual style I suppose. It’s in the key of F Major.

Nice. I noticed lots of una corda pedal action going on in this piece. I've never quiet found much need for it (partly because I don't have a grand, and perhaps partly because I'm not as skilled as many). Does it really contribute much to the color or does using it just become a bit habitual (like the sustain pedal)?

On an acoustic grand, it does physically change the tone... it's personal choice as to when to use it. The pedal moves the keyboard slightly left so that the hammer strikes on less string in the mid and upper ranges. The bass note of a piano have only one string, the mid has two strings and the upper registers have three strings - so using the pedal causes the hammer to strike one sting in the mid and two strings in the upper. Hope this helps.
