Hi all, here's my vocal analysis on Sia's rocking performance of "Alive" at Graham Nortion's Show. Thanks for the tons of suggestions on singers for my vocal analysis videos.. 4:08 it call intentional break, sia familiar as queen of vocals abilities of this kind. So she use intentional break a lot and its really difficult thing to do and i love when she doing that

The "squeeking" is what me fell in love with this song and her skill in singing. Because singing clear notes is one thing but she lets the note slip into a dissonace, thats so intruiging to me.

Sia is sunch an amazing unique singer and I am always happy when vocal coaches understand and appreciate her style and don't try to fit her in conventional molds. She was an indie singer for many years before going pop and I guess she kept parts of that style of singing. Please react to an old iconic indie performance of hers - Soon We'll Be Found - live at David Letterman (2008). Thank you for your comment. She's a fantastic singer whether she was indie (which simply means not signed to a big label) and when she became really famous (because it is 'time' / luck / destiny or whatever you call it..). I've found her singing to be quite consistent, the main difference may be when she started putting on the wig and her label had more $ to pump in for her image/dress/props etc, and when she started experimenting with more effects in her singing esp for 'live' performances in recent years. We need more great singers like her!!

unfortunately Sia has been having some problems with her voice lately because of her chronic illness (EDS), could you react to some of her newer live performances? like the ones at the BBMAs and MTV Movie and TV awards. I love your reactions and I'd love to hear what you think about them!

Thanks for your comment, I wasn't aware that she has EDS. If she has EDS, it would be extremely brave of her to continue to perform... And I wouldn't say anything, but only have total respect for that 🙂

I really enjoyed your commentary on Sia's physicality (or lack thereof) - how every movement is intentional and helps her to deliver these killer vocals! I have a few other Australian artists, I'd love to see you react to when you have a chance! she is not talking about that kind of effects, she is talking about what Sia can do with her own voice not just to hit notes but in order to deliver different sounds for expressing different emotions. It was a compliment not a drag.

Which parts are wrong ? Are you a singer or a vocal coach? When I meant effects, I mean it as effects that a singer does. Vocal effects. I didn't mean effects using electronic machines. And I only do videos for singers I like (and obviously respect).
