Single 40 IDF Weber to Dual 40 Kadron Comparison

Test comparison on my Type 1 VW mystery engine 1800cc
74 X 88 with FK7 cam using stock Rocker Arms.
First impression....Dual 40 IDF Weber are best. Single 40 IDF are best for ruff and ready Baja racing. Dual Kadron Carburetors are really smooth for normal driving.

Just did the same thing. I bought a Baja with an 1835 . it has a 120 cam with a single delorto 44mm. I swapped the delorto with 40/44 Kadrons . Big difference. A lot more power every where.

I've watched this one twice now. Well - honestly I've watched several of your videos at least 2 times each. Getting ready to switch my car from Dual 34's ( Baby Weber's ) over to Kaddy's. Still waiting on some Jets to come in. Excellent as Always !!!

I hope your Kadrons have the 28 venturis. The Kaddy's should make a noticeable difference in mid range and top end and still give you some economy after a month or so. I say a month because I just know your going to have the peddle to the floor for a couple tanks of gas. LOL Hey, I just noticed the name. Good to see your comment. I kind of lost track of you. Looks like winter is moving in fast this year. Take care my friend.

@@TheEZGZ Thank you for the advise I will make the adjustment. Also it seems to run better when I the air screw mixtures out by 1 turn & 1/2 out. Is that normal?

Lot's of garden veggies this time of year. What kind of mileage do you get? Most folks don't care but when I get high up in the mountain roads where no gas is I like to have long range without carrying to much extra

+TheEZGZ I haven't really checked but off the cuff about 19. I would like to study that subject in the next few weeks . Want to put new plugs and air filters first they are original to purchase. Lots happening here at home not much time.

i have always like the duel carb sound mine use about the same amount of fuel as it did with the webba but towing was a bit different the twin car was better. good luck with it. have a great day mark

Can't beat the dual kadrons. Always start and maintenance free. Glad to see you weren't running dual/ dual webber's. 1 into 2 will actually get more volume in your cylinders. A chain effect you can't get from 1 into 1

Great video! I've also been also trying to figure out a center mount solution to keep things simple. Currently I have a weber progressive on my 1776, I'm curious if that would work better for you vs your single 40 idf.

Probably around town if you get it dialed in. I almost bought one at the last swap meet but money is a issue and I am just trying to use what I have in stock. Eventually I will make a decision and get rid of all the stuff I don't want any more. I definitely would like to test your progressive set up.

20 years ago I had the shop cut and modify a couple pair of 1600 dual port intakes so that I could experiment with 1972 1700 dual Solex and then an experiment of my own with dual PICT-34 carbs. Both were run on a 1676 with stock cam and neither worked out very well so I gave up

Like you, I was trying to make use of what I had on hand. I was fortunate that there were other curious people out there and I was able to sell my two sets of custom intakes, carbs and custom linkage for almost as much as I had into them.... I wonder if anyone got them working...

I do not have any experience with them personally. Two 2 barrel carbs will give you better performance and you won't have to worry about heat in the intake manifold. The single centermount carbs need HEAT in the intake to work well.

Some people swear by a pair Kadrons. Whats your gut feeling on fuel mileage? Sounds promising, looking forward to the report.

Great video EZGZ . I'm finishing up on my 1800 and I was wondering if I should run those Kadrons I'm not experienced like yourself and I'm afraid of the first cam break in . The price fits my budget what do you think EZGZ I used the Engle cheater cam 2 with panchito head's from CB performance for the 1800 . Enjoying your self I see. Like you said, IDF's always seem to clog idles. I like stock 34pict, Kadrons, and 48 Ida's only. I know you have good luck with Delortos. I've never used those or IDF's. My favorite is a 1776 with stock valve heads ported and 48 IDA's. Putts around like a stocker till you get into it and surprise who ever try's to pass you. Vw's for life buddy

Love my Dell's but now have the drip so will run something different until I figure it out. I some 48 dells I have run on the 2110. Sure makes for a touchy gas peddle at slow speeds

Trying to decide wether to get a set of used dual kadron 40's or dual AA 40 IDF's for my fresh 1835, w AA big valve head & ENGLE 110 build

No matter what you do dual carbs are a PITA The Kadrons are OK with that setup but a properly set Pair of 40IDF WILL BE smoother and work Great!

What is your take on running a single - Dellorto 45 on a 1968 cc ? Going to do some trading with a friend. I would like a better selection of carburation until I decide what I like & works for what I'm running.

It won't work. It will fall on it's face every time you give it gas. No mid range. You want Max of 40IDF with 28 mm venturis and it won't run much better unless wide open. One of those 36DRLA copies would be even better but you need HEAT in that intake manifold

@@TheEZGZ I ended up using the Weber 34's I just got rebuilt. They work super - winter came too quick - I didn't get a chance to put any miles on em yet. Thanks for the input !!

It worked great except for the in town mileage. I'm not done with it. I might move it over to the 2110

I thought the stock brake line fitting was too restrictive on fuel flow with the Kadrons? Supposedly the tee that came with the original Kadron kits was larger diameter?

Those small fuel lines will work fine around town at low speed but will not work if your going long distance on the Interstate Highway's. I got the car this way but later on changed to bigger fuel lines.

TheEZGZ hi thanks for replying. I enjoy watching your videos. I’m still gathering parts for my Kadron carb install. Did you make a video that outlines what fuel lines you changed to? I’ve had zero luck finding an original Kadron tee fitting that could mount to the center pivot linkage bracket. 👍🏼👍🏼

How do you not have the huge flat spot like I do off of idle? You are even running an 009 distributor. How did u fix this

drilling a small hole in the throttle plate for air to pass. You probably have some of your progression ports exposed. You also need the vwparts.aircooled.net/Weber-ICT-IDF-Pump-Exhaust-Valve-79701-000-p/79701.000.htm Watch more of my carb vids for complete details

@@TheEZGZ hey i just did as u stated and , glad i found this info , at 1st i was apprehensive in drilling holes in butterfly , but yes well worth it and i bought zero valve also blew carb out of any debris and running 2 pounds , i love my 40 idf in stock 1600

I'm guess if it was a Weber carb the idle is 50 or 55. If it was Dellorto it would be 60??????

50 , it had .50 stamped on it and looking up the carb it also said it came with a 50 . it may of still worked , but the ears that slide in the cap thing or what ever it is called ,were broke , well 1 broke the other bent over .

If I am off roading in the ruff I lower my pressure to 1 or 1/2 PSI If I am driving at interstate Hwy speeds I might go as high as 3 PSI

Try some atlas nitrile gloves for general tasks. They wear like iron and will save your hands.

What heater boxes on a baja bug I didn't know that was possible. Being a VW noob is bitter sweet. I've always been a car guy in the last year I got my 1st diesel 5.9 cummins and air cooled engine 1600 Vw. It's so funny learning new engines

Be more specific. idle and main of which carb. I can tell you this much. I have never had to change jet size from what they came with new. Thanks for watching and posting

Stock Kadrons on a type 1. rebuilt 74mm stroker crank 88 pistions with FK7 camshaft 1.11 stock rockers on solid shafts with heavy duty single springs =1800
