It's so great to have the opportunity to glean information from someone who has worked in the industry in the way that you have. The hoodie you're wearing is gorgeous, BTW. :)

Thank you very much for this video. I very much liked the texture. My #2 card seems to have gone astray; therefore, I decided to make my own. Your tip about loading the card and where exactly the needles set from changed everything for me. I’ve tried many times to make my own cards, but they never worked. Finally figured out why. Again, many thanks. I like how both sides turned out.

Thank you! It'' been a number of years since I've done machine knitting. I had a bond, turned my Mom on to machine knitting. She bought me a quality knitter with rib bed. I never got into the thread weight. It sits in storage. She just gave me her bulky. I am very excited to get back into it. I know I can do certain things, remembering how I did it is a different story. Thank you.

I love your videos. They are by far the easiest to follow and unlike some of the others, you explain so all levels of experience can follow. It looks like there haven't been any videos for a while. Any plans for new videos?

Helena, I have just found you and my heart was jumping with joy when I realised that after a long hard struggle I had finally found someone who's teaching I can relate too. That was short lived as I read on to discover you may come back one day. Please, please consider coming back soon as I know you are very much needed by all the comments. I would happily pay for your tuition. Do you teach through any other platform maybe? Please help us if you can. Kind regards, Sue UK xx

Thank you - your videos are the best tutorials because they explain functions and results and reasons for actions- not just a ‘do this then that method ‘. Do you know if there is a way to control edge curl on fair isle brother knitting? Can I add a rib somehow?
@theknittingschool5 жыл бұрын
Ursa Minor thank you! Most of the time the edge curl will be controlled by the seam (in a garment). If you are making a scarf, it will curl unless you fold it or back it with something. It is just the nature of the beast, I am afraid. Gotta learn to love the curl!

hi Helen, you are so great. Love your videos! Can you do pin tuck without a punchcard, I would like to learn how to do it, but no punchcard machine :( I have patterns and punchcards but no machines for them. Would you mind doing a video on pin tuck, when you have time, please?
@equitime775 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this video. Following on from our recent conversation on Instagram re manipulating two colour brioche do you think it would be easier to do this with this method, ie the increases? It wouldn't be reversible but that isn't always the main point.

Hey, I really enjoy your video's. I'm knitting with my machine after a few years of not. I have a Brother Kh230 which does not use punch cards but can make pattern knitting through flipping switches and moving needled in and out of work. Can you show this stitch on a none punch card machine?

Hey! Great video - now I understand tucking! But wondering if you can shed light on the wet finishing of industrial yarn at home? I have some cones of 100% wool which knit up very stiff and even after washing in soap they still aren't too soft. Do you use a special product? Would welcome any suggestions as an internet search didn't turn up anything useful. Thank you!

That's awesome I love doing vertical stripes. I discovered this by mistake. Oh, I want to know how to make a men's vest with my knit radar and colour changer. can you show everyone how to make a men's vest please. doing vertical striping with 2 colour changer. This would be so exciting to see. I have a knit radar for my singer 321 knitting machine with a YC1 colour changer.

I’ve really been enjoying your instructive videos. Recently I learned the half-milano or semi-double stitch to control the edge on stockinette fabric. I have a Brother machine with a ribber. So I set up for full needle rib and then keep only a few edge stitches on the ribber and move the central stitches up to the main bed; set the main carriage to knit normal and the ribber to slip from left to right. Do you have any tips on the use of that technique or any others for the edges of fabric?
@theknittingschool5 жыл бұрын
Ag95062 I used to do that all the time when working on industrial v-beds, but haven’t thought to use it on the Japanese style machines.

Perhaps you might make a video of the technique for us home machine knitters......

I really enjoyed this video - I just replicated your swatches and I’m excited to try making a sweater in one of these patterns. I like the way it makes a bulkier fabric from a lighter yarn. Since the tuck stitch fabric is so much wider than jersey, given the same number of stitches, is there a ribbing technique that I can use which won’t be dramatically narrower than the main part of the garment?
@theknittingschool5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments. I would swatch with a few ribs trims and see what works best. Probably a 2/2 rib with one needle out of work instead of two would give you the most rib for the width.

I’ve just watched you for the first time and you might have saved my sanity! I have a brother kh891 for a long time but haven’t progressed very far as I always encounter some problem I cannot fix. I have recently started again trying to knit a baby blanket in tuck stitch but it kept dropping stitches, as I watched your video you said to put up the brushes my instruction book says nothing about it. I did that and immediately no more dropped stitches. The other question is my machine is really noisy and I noticed yours just glided over. Jan from the UK
@theknittingschool92884 жыл бұрын
janice roy thanks for your comments! Glad the brushes did the trick. Re noisy machine: maybe it needs a really good clean. That is quite a process and involved taking out all the needles, soaking them in denatured alcohol (meths?) with a few drops of machine oil then drying them off. Use latex (or latex-free) gloves. While the needles are out, use the same solution to clean all the metal parts of the machine, vacuum and pull out any fluff you can find inside the bed. Clean under the carriage dipping cotton buds into the solution and cleaning all the little channels. Clean the plastic parts with a damp cloth (I also use a little all-purpose spray cleaner). The machine should look and sound like new after that. Repeat once a year depending on how often you use the machine. 😀

Thanks again for your videos. Could you do one on tension (yarn size versus stitch pattern/design)? My edges pull in way more than yours appear to do on the videos. I suspect I am always too tight with tension but it may just be a function of the stitches/design structure I'm using. You mention going up (loosening) for tuck stitch, but I curious how do you determine you have a proper tension set even for just ss? I have followed guides in the manuals, charts I have found for different yarn weights, but they always seem to give ranges that are too tight.

Hello! I’m have a difficult time working this on my standard machine. It’s an SK323 and I keep getting weird loops on the purl side of the fabric. Do you have any tips? I have been using fingering side yarn. I’m quite new so I don’t fully understand yarn sizes!
