Boy, if you were handy you could do all kinds of things here. Garage - yes! Upstairs apt - definite maybe. Circular driveway is always great. The fun part about having a duplex is your renter pays a lot of your expenses - but the whole mortgage is tax deductible for you. Question: would Houlton be receptive to a tiny house community where the manufactured homes used to be? They have such a difficult time finding a space. This would be great for lots of reasons. And would be more affordable housing for local folks, retirees, etc.

Wise investment. Start owning, stop renting always your best option or make clean, affordable apartments to rent out for profit not such a bad idea.

I had heard that Houlton residents aren't particularly kind to outsiders? Is this anyone's experience? Also, what internet company does Houlton use and what are the speeds/reliability? Any job prospects in the area?

@Lakota828 .. a third of the folks who live here are from outside Houlton Maine. That's healthy and new ideas, more brainstorming potential to make this area rich and vibrant. Houlton is the county seat, lots of government jobs, we are right on the Canadian border. Lots of lakes and if you are friendly, you will have friends. Join a local club like Rotary and lots of fun and service happens.. you will meet lots of folks by getting involved, volunteering and enjoying our four seasons! WOW! Lucky you, you've been talking to the right people...why in the last 45 days, 4 confirmed members of the The Houlton Welcome Wagon group have been identified as shooters of those who've only recently moved to this bucolic setting, wounding 6 adults and ONLY 3 children...and how did they identify these unsuspecting newcomers?? Good questions you ask! Well, when these new members of the community hear about the City Owned Internet Company and the BLAZING, I'm talkin' BLISTERING MIND ALTERING speeds, well they can't get to the downtown office fast enough to sign up, doncha' know. And it's those same sneaky pete internet folks who immediately alert the Welcome Wagon vigilantes exactly who the newcomers are and where they live! Well, you can just imagine what happens next...oh the humanity, the carnage... BUT, here's the good news...if you're NOT picked off by a WW sharpshooter, you're very like to be offered employment!
