Not being able to handle spicy food isn't that strange. Plenty parts of China don't eat much chili. He said his parents are Fuzhounese, and Fuzhou cuisine isn't spicy at all. Not recognizing red bean paste on the other hand ...

I'm mexican and I'm offended honestly by him. Maybe it's because as a Mexican our culture takes food very seriously like cooking and learning recipes from relatives so if someone said that they don't eat pozole or tamales or tacos I woukd be upset. Like how are you that white washed?

true Chinese prawn dishes always serve them unpeeled. it's to keep the flavour and prevent the prawn from becoming dry. Plus, alot of the flavour is in the prawn head, which most of us eat. so it's like a blasphemy to throw that part away.

This. Even though I prefer peeled shrimp because I hate getting my hands dirty, but it is very authentic that she didn't peel the shrimp. I wouldn't even hold against the cook if I were judging.

How does any aspect of this video confirm that Alan is unappreciative? Even so, this is a video where the girls joined a casting to be featured on this video - Alan didn’t ask them to cook, Buzzfeed did. On that note, he was never and still is not spoiled as it was quite the opposite for him his entire life. I’d highly suggest keeping your assumptions to yourself and refraining from insulting others.

Haha, what? Shrimp and chili is not a complex dish, it can easily be prepared in about thirty minutes. The egg yolk pastry Kunna made takes many hours and a fair degree of skill to prepare.

in traditional Chinese cooking, you don't peel the shrimp. Cooking it with the shells provides extra flavor and part of the yumminess is peeling it and sucking the sauce off the shells lol. This dude is whack & I'm surprised none of the girls mentioned it

Alan was such a disappointing taster. It's not that he has dietary restrictions (more and more Chinese people are vegetarian now for ex) but more like judging from his commentary he knows almost nothing about real/traditional Chinese food. This...is a really poor representation of good Chinese food. The egg yolk pastry is impressive but that's it, AND he doesn't eat pork or spicy, both of which of are pretty important to the cuisine. That fried rice came out pretty sad, which I'm sad about :( because fried rice is supposed to be fragrant and fluffy with a shining layer of grease. Contrary to his belief, fried rice has a really long history stretching back millennia so it didn't start with american takeout.

@@FlowerTower Chinese cooking often involves stir frying, which requires high heat for quick cooking. The high heat will easily dry out the shrimp. Keeping it in the shell keeps the moisture in. Similarly, in American cuisine, you would not slice a steak before cooking it. You will lose all the moisture and juiciness. So imagine a person complaining about how their filet mignon or rib eye wasn't already sliced when it's brought to them. This is the same.

@@KpopLover4Ever oh wow! You guys should try turning the heat down and cooking a little slower - that will allow the flavor to actually get into the dish. I have always complained that authentic East Asian food is extremely bland and that might be the problem - you not letting the flavors actually infuse. Good luck!

Ikr, red bean is literally red while taro is typically whitish gray. You can literally tell just by looking at it. It's two very different colors (and flavors).

Americanized? No! It depends on dishes too just like Chinese one. I would say they like to keep the tail even peeled. Some people like it peel so as to not get your hand dirty and also faster to eat too.

It's the shrimp for me! The others were sides and a dessert. The shrimp was an entire entre so to me it would'vebeen more satisfying. It's Becky for me, but minus points for not having whole shrimps w the head on. (Chinese accent) "more flavah"! Lol.
